Sex isn't even slighty important in a relationship...
Um have you even wondered why there are sex therapist, books, guides, lectures and classes?
Just because something exists doesn't mean it's healthy to actively engage in it...

Besides, studies show that couples that wait for marriage to have sex have far fewer divorces.
Umm... Hate to say it, but the REASON for that is that the people that wait until marriage are usually religious, and believe divorce to be wrong.

My bf's parents are living proof - One lives in Canada, the other in england, but they're too religious to get a divorce (even though they've already broken their bloody vows, so why the hell not...?) and they have forbidden themselves from ever having another partner.

Great, isn't it...? That's two people's lives fucked.
Anyone think thought religous marriges do not get divorced as much because of THE SHAME FACTOR huh? They may hate thier sex life but they would raher have that then be shamed. Also there are tones of talkshows that have guests on that talk about how they divorce due to lousy sex life.

I think of sex as an expression of how much I love having sex
I completely agree. The best relationship is one built on communication and devotion. Sex, for the most part, is just a selfish expression of how much you want pleasure.

Also, for all of the "but sex is natural" people, humans are the only creature on earth who use sex for any purpose other than reproduction.
Actually dont dolphins have sex for pleasure as well? Also some Chimps (bonobo?) have homosexual sex so if they are aiming for reproduction they are going about it all wrong. I suppose they could adopt though
Three different people already beat you to it. XD Though if I'm not mistaken Dolphins also go after /humans/ as well. Which is a little bit unnerving and confusing.

ummmm, how often do you think old people have sex?

I like to think my grandparents love each other.

/thread

Oh yeah, casual and premarital sex gets a thumbs up from this young one.

looking through this loads of perople say that you need sex in a romantic relationship or in a loving one not true

i love my girlfriend with all my heart shes so special to me we havent once had sex (savin for marrige) and we do romantic thoing all the time like today i took her to a flash resteraunt and then we went for a moonlit walk and when we got back i gave her this realllly pretty flower i found no sex was needed for it to be romantic

then again its easy for me to say this but its all amatter of oppion i mean some people might disagrre but thats cool
Was it her idea to wait untill marriage? Because I hate to say it, but unless she's ugly, a good party without you and a guy with his head and balls in place and a bottle of fine liquor around can seriously cock up your plan.
True, that. But only if she's a total dick.

:D

If a girl wants to wait for marriage, I would hope it's not the same girl who goes to parties single and gets drunk every weekend... Hypocrisy, anyone?
I've seen "good girls" doing blowjobs in club toilets. Sex is a powerful force and woman is an unpredictable creature...
Movi'n right along, no need to leave a comment...just go.

Yes it is. Also, there's a certain extremely venomous spider in Australia that will hunt humans down without provocation...because they think we're competition for mates.

I have a confession to make. It may come as no surprise to you, seeing as I'm a machine clothed in human flesh sent back by Skynet an otaku talking on message boards, but I haven't had sex yet. I've barely been in any relationships at all.

Thus, no matter how complex or intricate my opinions are....they're fundamentally flawed. It's like an experiment, if you don't do any testing, you'll get no results and even if you do they won't matter. I can't weigh in definitively on either side without getting up on my high horse and I can't very well go out and hire a prostitute because I actually value my virginity and I'm saving it for a special occasion, just like that shotgun I keep under my pillow.

That said, let me wrap this up in bullet point form, giving my views in a nutshell-

1. Sex is good and sex is natural. Without it our species would have died out long ago. You cannot deny this. You cannot deny this. Maybe that it's good, but not that it's natural. The only shame in it is the shame you've attached to it.

2. I have nothing against gays/lesbians, no grand argument defending them, nor a roaring rant of revenge denouncing them. No feelings either way. I think it's their right to practice whatever sexual practices they want. Judging them based on their sexual practices is like becoming prejudiced against one of your friends just because they like whips a little too much.

3. Casual sex. It's fine by me as long as it's done correctly, which means as much protection as is feasible. That's all.

4. For me, nothing's more important than finding someone who thinks on the same level as me, as I've stated several times, a partner that I could share a meaningful relationship with if not a lifetime commitment, so yes, sex might be an important part of that potential relationship, BUT, only if it's something the relationship leads to naturally, and like I said, as much protection as is feasible.

5. Quit bashing people who don't share your views. I've seen too much of this in this thread alone. Yes, you're entitled to your opinion and so is he. And so am I, now that I think of it. Doesn't make anyone inherently right are wrong. Almost all arguments have some form of merit, so either respond intelligently and without venom, or just get out. We don't need bashing here.

And that's the Word.

Now that I have your attention...

This thread was inspired by the discussion that started in one of DanTheBard's threads about love and sex.

I have noticed that many users here on The Escapists seem to regard sex (or at least the pre-marital kind) as something not important, needed or enjoyable in a relationship, or at least not as important as love.
While these are surely noble sentiments, it seems to me very stupid, or at least naive, to think that any relationship based on love can keep going without sex.

If in fact we can all agree that a relationship based solely on sex is doomed to fail, then surely one based solely on love is also doomed to the same fate. After all, man is a "carnal" animal.

I don't know where I'm going with this, I just wanted to know why here sex seems to be mostly looked down upon as something "dirty" and "unpure", while I for one think that it can be something beautiful.

Casual sex also seems to get a pretty bad rep, which I for one don't understand why.

/rant.
I read alot of comments on this page especially about people feeling that sex was as important as love in a relationship which is utter rubbish or at least that's how I feel. I'm not being ignorant in saying that it doesn't have its importance, but don't assume it's important in EVERYONE's relationship. From experience with people and friends I know every relationship and every person varies and thus the feeling of sex is different per person and or belief.
On another note for those who don't see anything wrong with premarital sex but don't understand why people find it "dirty" or "unpure" read a little more into religion. Alot of religions namely Christianity and several others believe premarital sex is wrong. I had this discussion with a group not more than a few days ago actually. Because the U.S. is opening it's doors to the fact that everyone doesn't believe the same thing. There not being strict about things that are namely against religious codes like gay marriages, etc. With that said things like premarital aren't seen as so bad, since alot of people don't' follow strictly to religious teachings anymore. Honestly how I came to experience this I don't see premarital sex as wrong or exactly necessary for a good relationship, but I do understand why people feel the way they do about it.

Yet another reason I will never go to Australia then.

Sex is the reason we have relationships. Think about, why do we work? To get money, why do we need money? To buy stuff and have nice things. Why do we need nice things? To get respect. Why do we need respect? To get noticed by people. Why do we need to get noticed? To get a date. Why do we need a date? To get a relationship. And why do we get a relationship? To get laid.
actually its more along the lines of continuing our species
i think; correct me if i'm wrong

Also, virgins need to stop presenting their baseless opinions as fact; it's like writing a serious review about a game you have no intention of ever playing, you pretentious gits.
You're probably right. I guess I can't form an opinion on the morality of serial murder unless I've actually performed it or am a victim of it. That logic makes perfect sense.

You can't tell someone their opinion is invalid just because they've made a moral choice, in short.
That's most incongruous comparison I've witnessed all day.

Most of us aren't saying that it's more important than love, but rather that sex is simply a means of expressing love (in certain contexts, obviously). As such, they're rather hard to compare.

That's AMAZING!

These spiders must be pretty thick though.
Yep. Still though; incredibly deadly + hunting/chasing humans down and biting multiple times = Nightmare Fuel Unleaded.
