It's funny cause if a bunch of girls made a game where one girl took advantage of a whole bunch of guys, nobody would care. The fact that feminists acknowledge and attack sexist material in the media really just makes me take them less seriously, cause it points out that they still have to defend their gender.

Didnt WalMart (somewhere) get sued for being sexist assheads?

Also....FYI lady (who if that is her pic on wikipedia -cringe-) Almost every WalMart in my area has a Gamestop on the same parking lot or within a decent walking distance of one....

Free Fame!

IMO its worthy the fame for the long ass time waiting and knowing it will be deliver..unlike Bulletstorm...

It's not Duke Nukem unless every non-gamer hates him. Also, all this negative attention will boost sales like crazy. Fuck yeah!

I think this whole "ass slap to calm them down" thing is stupid and honestly it makes me mad. Number one, despite stereotypes women aren't hysterical crazy people who can't take care of themselves, two if you want to calm someone down you hit them in the face not the ass, three I generally don't like being thought of as someone that needs a slap in the ass to keep my head. I don't think it's a joke, I think it's gearbox being an ass.

That being said, do I think it needs to be banned? No, because gearbox has the right to make what they want. Do I agree with Shelby Knox that it's going to ruin the minds of children? No, because unless your child is extremely impressionable it should be easy to look at your boys and say "if I ever see you treat a female like that I'm gonna kick your ass. That's a game, you don't treat women like that" and say to your girls "don't be like those women. Their are virtual idiots and any woman worth her salt would slap a man back in the face for doing that."

Like a smart person I'm saying "that's a piece of crap. I'm not buying it," and going on about my business. Shelby, go on with your life.

I love how Pritchford seems thoroughly oblivious to the fact that "a love slap on the booty" is if anything more condescending.
This is a game which should never have seen the light of day. If its development gestation of nearly 15 years is proof of anything, that is it.

Don't get me wrong, I think Duke Nukem has always been a neanderthal exercise in the most base and worthless qualities of this medium, but I won't deny it the right to be base and worthless.
I'm curious. Don't you think that the game is equally sexist toward men as women, seeing as it paints the "ideal man" as a musclebound, knuckle-dragging, neanderthal meathead with rippling biceps, a tendancy to womanize, consume copious amounts of alcohol, and treat women like crap?

I'm being 110% serious here.
I think Duke Nukem Forever is an equal-opportunities stupid concept, absolutely.
But to be honest, I don't see the alleged satire involved in this project. Whatever there might have been in previous incarnations, this time around it would seem they are simply aiming to deliberately offend specific ideas and movements (e.g feminism) rather than satirise the absurdity and hyperbole of its own content to some cathartic effect.
I don't trust the developers to have the level of insight to see that difference. At least not when judging by how Pitchford has approached the issue in official statements.
The Duke is the same as he's always been. It's the times that have changed.

If there were ever a need for a "like button", your post is it. What Gearbox did was unnecessary and the only reason for it is being jerks.

On the other hand, I can't stand this idea that kids are going to pick up a video game and instantly take every aspect of its protagonist's behavior to heart.

Maybe it's the way I've been raised, but I honestly cannot even begin to fathom a child so brain-dead and parents so neglectful.

And then there's the larger issue of: Why the heck do your kids have Duke Nukem?

But then there's the even larger issue of: They actually don't have it. This is just typical social conservative "think of the children!" fear mongering that absolutely no mainstream media institution will confront.

I think the root problem is that politics and the media are controlled by older generations. They have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to stuff like this. The world evolved around our parents and grandparents, and they're not keeping up.

OOOOOHHHHH NOOOOOOOOO! How ever will rednecks get their copies of Duke Nukem?!

But ya, to summarize my vast opinion on how idiotic this all is:

Shelby Knox is wildly ignorant.

Satire will never be understood.

Video games are held to a much different standard then other forms of media. How is raping a 12 year old girl acceptable in a movie, but slapping a girl on the ass in order to calm her down to rescue her in a video game bad?

Feminism is okay in principle, but most feminists are not so much about equal rights as they are about hating men.

Violence is acceptable while the most minute sexual content insights outrage.

Whoa whoa, wait, A game has a mode in which you carry women around like furniture while slapping their asses, and this has UPSET someone? Well, I have to say, news hasn't shocked me this much since I heard that the sun rose this morning.

On a serious not, who cares if Walmart bans it or not? There's only like 8 billion other places where you can buy video games, even more then that if you have access to the internet.

Its a sad world we live in if people honestly believe that video games have any psychological impact; ESPECIALLY over the top things like Duke Nukem.
