"We will do as much as we can today... If it is beyond our capabilities, then..."

He glanced behind himself at them.

"Then I will stay behind while you retreat."

As they continued ahead, a sense of foreboding falls over you... Eber begins to scan not just the tracks ahead, but also the walls and ceiling too. You are aware that you three are not alone in the tunnel, though nothing has approached as of yet. You should prepare yourselves for combat.

Yamada stood quite still, except for getting into stance with his spear at the ready. "We are not leaving Anyone behind." He had to admit to himself that he was terrified, but there was no way he was going to let it stop him now. He knew this was what was going to happen down here and he needed to be prepared for it.

Her heart skipped a beat at the statement. 'This guy has to be out of some book...that's crazy. He can't stay behind.'

Suddenly, Kumiko felt goosebumps form on her arms. She stopped walking and tensed, peering into the nothingness around them.

"Please tell me someone else feels that..."

Yamada nodded, the hairs on the back of his neck prickling. "As much as I wish I didn't, I feel it too."

"Something is coming..."

Eber stops, peering into what little he can see of the tunnel ahead. The light seems to be less effective at penetrating the darkness now that they've made progress inward. There's a low hum in the air, like someone tuning into a dead radio station. Then the warbling laughter again.

LYING HABLERIE x3

The enemies emerge--their appearance makes you step back in surprise. Each wide sphere bobbing in the air sports an exaggerated pair of ruby red lips and a thick black tongue, easily the length of your body.

They charge in just as Eber unsheathes his knife; he catches one across the "face" as it comes to bite him and a piece of the thing's tongue falls to the ground and flops about uselessly. The boy makes a wordless noise of disgust. The other two swing their tongues at Kumiko and Yukimura, wrapping around whatever limb they can reach and trying to pull you into their mouths.

[Yamada: PERSONA LOCKED. You have yet to unearth it from the depths of your soul.]

Attack!

Kumiko shrieked at the wet tongue wrapping around her. She squirmed, trying to loosen the grip on her. The girl thrust her leg forward at the front of the floating beast. Panicking, she blurted "Agi!" at the creature. So close she could feel the heat.

Yamada was just as surprised by the things as he was by his teammates, but was quickly distracted by the tongue coming at him. He backed up and lunged for its open mouth with his spear, wanting to impale it as quickly and brutally as possible, just wanting them gone. It was as if his body was working on its own, so used to practiced combat that is was nearly itching for this.

The Hablerie on your spear, Yukimura, shrieks and continues to force itself down the shaft of the weapon towards you before it finally shivers and goes limp, melting off of your spear and dribbling onto the ground with a faint hiss. Eber dispatches his opponent with a swift downward stab into the top of its head. Kumiko, yours recoils at being singed, but it appears to be strong against flame; it flies forward again with teeth gnashing to bite. Now that you think of it, it looks an awful lot like a big soccer ball...

"What the hell is with this thing?" she growled out, slamming her foot straight into it's face. After connecting with it she continued to beat down on the upper half of the 'body' with the heel of her boot. "God dammit, LET ME GO!"

The enemy thrashes under your foot until it finally stops moving and dissipates into the concrete. The fight took energy, but the adrenaline makes you feel strong and lively. Eber barely pauses to catch his breath before he continues, knife still in his hand and at the ready.

"Let us keep going!"

Yamada shuddered hard and shook his spear to get off any ...residue, then noticed one of the things was still going for Mizushima. He went to assist, then was surprised at how under control she seemed to have it. He held his spear at the ready and glanced at the other two, then more specifically at Mizushima. "...May I ask, how did you set that ...that thing on fire?"

She jumped in surprise, far too focused on the spot where the thing had disintegrated. "I guess you can say that's my Persona's power?" she shrugged, still a little lost about the whole aspect of Persona. "Baldr. All that matters is that he's on my side right now. We can talk about that later. We've got business to attend to."

Kumiko was a little pissed off at being taken off guard by the Shadows and felt that a little ass kicking was in order. She kept alert and ready to spring at the black creatures that advanced at her. Upon spotting another, she wasn't going to give it the chance to get at her first. Faintly, she could see Baldr's image for a split second; a force pushed the Shadow back. It was an opportunity she was not going to pass up. The walls in the tunnel could be used to her advantage. Kumiko ran up to bricks and did a quick stepping-jump to launch herself at her enemy to snap her leg out at it.

Yamada nodded to her answer, more to himself than to her and thought to that man again. He wondered if that's what his persona really was, if that's what he needed to do. He wanted to harness that power, wanted to have that assistance. He wasn't sure he was going to be able to do this alone. Just that one monster had shaken him. Terrified him. He'd never had to actually fight anything outside of a set arena and he was worried at how soon he'd grow worn. He wish that he hadn't, that he was strong, but he didn't know how to get there.

As he stood there and tried to puzzle out what to do, one of the shadows made the decision forward and lunged at him knocked him off his balance. He swept the spear wide to disorient it once he made it to his feet, then made an upward stab, followed by as many more as it needed before it turned to nothing on the ground at his feet, as he stood above it panting.

Eventually, once Isoroku was satisfied with both his meal and the conversation, he paid the waitress and led Rin out into the street.

"Hmm, it's getting dark. Let's head to the train station, maybe Kojiro is already there."

They headed for the station, Isoroku's hands thrust deep in his pockets.

"When we fought the monster, we'd get hurt if any of our comrades got hurt. Do you think that's always true, Rin? Do you think that if they were all killed in a few moments, you and I would die too? Sort of causes a sudden concern for their safety that would be absent otherwise, don't you think?"

They reached the fence surrounding the station, and he pulled it up where the fastening had come loose, allowing them to climb under and approach the platform.

He looked around for Kojiro.

Rin's meal had proved better than she had expected. But Isoroku's topic of choice only dampened her spirits. "I wouldn't know Isoroku-san. But wasn't our goal to make sure we all were ok? If so it shouldn't matter one way or another should it?" Rin glanced nervously at him as the arrived at the train station. She joined him in looking around to see if Kojiro was already here.

once the opportunity had arisen, Kojiro had already sneaked onto the old platform. while he waited for Rin and Isoroku he had taken out his sword to practice. And relieve some stress. He slashed, priced, and diced the air imaging shadows. or so he told himself.

He thought about the Shadow they fought, she looked like a lady, and old lady. He wondered if shadows reflect on their opponents as well...but would that mean everyone else that night also had 'mother problems'. How he hated that giant mother shadow. He hated her almost as much as he hated his grandmother. Almost.

He stopped when he heard someone approach. He turned around and waved to Isoroku and Rin.

"Hey, ready to get going?"

Rin turned as she heard Kojiro call out. She waved back and walked over to him. "Ah Kojiro-san, we were just looking for you. But to answer your question, I'm ready." She pulled her book out of her bag as if to prove her statement.

Kojiro snickered. He remembered that book. And how he and Isoroku has scoffed at it the night before. He nodded to her before turning to Isoroku, "So you all set, Roku? Or maybe I should call you Jesse James? Are you ever gonna tell us where you got that gun?"

"Mhmm," Isoroku murmured non-committaly. "I found it. It was all extremely legal, you understand."

He gestured toward the crude lipstick writing on the wall. "Now, does this mean we're supposed to follow them, or go the other way?"

"Go the other way I assume. Since we decided to split up..." Kojiro continued to stare at Isoroku. His statement made him only wonder about the gun more. "Come on, we have a lot of lost time to make up for." Kojiro walked to the end of the platform before jumping down to the tracks. He waited for Isoroku to come down so they could both help Rin.

Once they were on the track, he set off in front, flashlight in one hand, sword in the other. He really needed to beat some shadows.
