Oh US, now you're just being ridiculous. Seems like they don't even wait for the last one to end before starting the next. Maybe the NRA was right all along, at this rate schools will be empty before any regulations are through!

At least two people were shot at Lone Star College in Texas on Tuesday, according to local news reports.

An alert posted on the school's website warned students to take shelter.

"LSC-North Harris is locked down," the alert read. "Students, faculty and staff are advised to take immediate shelter where you are. Do not enter the campus until notified further."

Aerial footage showed SWAT team members evacuating students several buildings on the campus in North Harris County near Houston.

A female student told KTRK-TV heard five shots fired in an area between the library and the cafeteria. Other students say they heard gunshots when they were in cafeteria.

Posting a warning on their website? I'm not sure how effective that can be...

Also, Lone Star College?

Maybe the shooter was Lonestar's former roommate... or something.

Odds are I'm going to hell for laughing at this. God dammit, Mel Brooks.

This is breaking news, just happened less then 20 minutes ago. A shooting has taken place in a Texas College. No reports of deaths yet but numerous injuries are confirmed.

This is just staggering. How a nation can tolerate this bullshit with such an obvious reason is mindboggling.
We need more guns they said. We'll be safer that way they said.

Also, here's an article link. http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2013/01/texas_official_3_wounded_in_co.html

I think it closer to an isolated shooting, but how many victims (injured or dead) do there have to be before it can be qualified as a 'mass shooting'? It's a very loose term

Two people is not a "Mass shooting." just a shooting.

Let's be honest. There is no more crime this year than last year. They are only reporting every shooting cause the president wants to pass gun control over Ar-15 which account for about 1 percent of shootings, instead of hand guns which accoutn for 90 percent. A flase cloak of security, banning long jackets and backpacks, the fake metal detector type false show of doing something when really....they aren't.

Control them guns, I mean we outlawed booze in the 30's no one could buy...oh wait,
Well drugs we outlawed drugs cant be found or bought by.... oh right...

yeah bad idea

Offical terming for a mass shooting, as defined by the FBI, is 4+ dead in one shooting.

Thanks for the info, it's good to know there is solid criteria for this kind of thing.

As sad as it is to hear about people being injured or killed, this was not a mass shooting.

According to this [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/22/lone-star-college-shooting_n_2527806.html#26_lone-star-says-situation-under-control] the situation is under control. Apparently it was an altercation between a few students. Doesn't sound like a premeditated shooting, but who knows at this point.
Surely that's not any better. Not premeditated in any way but two jerks with guns just decide to open fire on each other? That seems a reason to me to not trust people entirely to use guns. The only plus I see to this news is at least there were no mass deaths and maybe this damp squib of a shooting will make prospective psychopaths think twice about how "dramatic" and how "infamous" they'll be.

I'm sorry but I am becoming rather sick of all the "Murica" crap being thrown about in the escapist as of late. I understand that we are having some screwed up shit going on right now, but not all of us are gun wielding rednecks with insane political agendas. Just because our Media is some kind of screwed up corporate backwash who's moral compass points south doesn't give the rest of the world a right to lump all Americans in with the group. This is what is called prejudice and bigotry.

OT: This wasn't a mass shooting, and this wasn't a school shooting. This was a shooting that happened on a school campus. Please get your facts right before posting them.

We have tolerated it for the past 30 years. Why is this year special?

Every shooter is mentally disabled or has a excuse. No one in this country would take a campain to ban cars for drunk drivers now would we? No you blame the driver not the car.

Obama's menatlity on the whole assault rifle ban would not only use the example above but add in language like this. "Instead of 12 gallon gas tanks which allow innocent drunks to drive hundreds of miles without refueling, we will scale all cars back to five gallon tanks. Also the addition of spoilers, racing stripes and 'fast" colors will be limited to one as it increases the cars deadliness and encourages high speed behavior.

This is America in a nut shell. A gun man kills lots of kids. Is gun man a millionair and alive? No, what closest to the killing can generate money in a law suit... guns? video games? Twinkies? (look up the sugar overload twinkie defense I sh*t ya not)

Ignore real problem, don't blame the only person TO blame. Sue,ather, rinse, repeat,

A plausible solution is to prevent the media from covering mass shootings for the next several months to prevent copycats. But then nobody sane enough is going to violate the First Amendment to do that.

3 injuries. It was a dispute in which one of two people involved yanked out his gun. Guy running around waving a knife could have just as easily injured as many people. Shall we try to ban those to like the UK wants to do since they had that nice 400% increase in stabbings after their gun ban as well as a huge spike in violent crime because the entire country became a soft-target zone?

Thank you Guppy. You just saved the thread and prevented a tirade from yours truly.

I am indebted to you.
Yes, quite. Good show, old boy.

This doesn't quite top a 5-year-old getting suspended for having a Hello Kitty bubble gun at kindergarten. [http://whateverblog.dallasnews.com/2013/01/5-year-old-suspended-for-terrorist-threats-involving-hello-kitty-bubble-gun.html/]

Seriously, literally innocent kids are being accused of terrorism these days.

ANOTHER sensationalist headline.

This is breaking news, yet another seemingly innocent internetter has not only provided a criminal with more attention than they deserve but is blowing his crime(s) way out of proportion. More on this, tomorrow.

Dun dun dun, dun dun.

Ah, the FOX News approach. "If you just stop talking about the uncomfortable truths that we don't want to address because they contradict our ideology, they'll all just go away."

Incidentally, I love how at the moment you posted this not a single thing was known about the shooter's motives. Yet you're comfortably ready to just assume they wanted to be a celebrity. Well done.
Wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that if I were you, simply because you don't agree with them. Also this.

So some grade-A-idiots decided to go shooting at each other at a school library, while yet another mass school shooting is fresh in everyone's memory?

This is pretty much premium fuel for pro-gun control campaigners.

Doesn't matter if it was just 3 injuries. Fact of the matter is that the thunderheads decided to do this while people are still talking about the one that killed 20 first graders. It's an ugly reminder for everyone and it's gonna be even harder to go against tougher gun control now.
