Wow... that's pretty big news. That shows me for not watching the news today.

Obviously it won't seem that big to you Americans with your near constant state of blood fueled rampages.

Just kidding guys.
Actually, no, you're spot on. We're so desensitized, in fact, that the biggest thing that stood out to me in that article was "Police Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Hyde" and his rather unwieldy title.

Not true, because the gunman (if he were in a place where weapons WEREN'T prohibited) would most likely be taken down by the general populace, which is why there are not all that many shooting sprees in America.
Really? [http://tamilhelp.wordpress.com/2008/05/13/timeline-us-shooting-sprees-history-of-school-shootings/]
I can't help but notice that those "gun sprees" are mostly 1 or 2 shot. Outside of school shootings (nobody in school being armed), the only spree that had over 10 shot was by a man in a sniper nest.

Y'know, that's exactly what I said after Columbine.
Schools in America have a no weapons allowed policy, meaning that there are supposed to be no guns on school property, and that students have to fight of gunmen with pencils, although after this happened my schools hired armed policemen to guard the place.
I was being sarcastic, but what this idiot is implying that you'd all be safer if the scholl lifted the "no weapons" policy.

You do know that UK has one of the highest crime rate in the world. Much higher than ours.

When polices are out gunned, the population is defenseless, and criminals spend less time in jails, crimes of course will run rampant.
yes but at least we don't have drunken assholes who go around shouting about in a drunken fashion..... oh wait we do there called football hooligans imagine one of them with a gun hell i would move down under

Too bad no one could have stopped him sooner. Glad I live in a state where self defense is a fiercely protected right.
And how do you expect to defend yourself against a man in a cab, with a gun?
That's exactly what I was thinking when I was out in Grizedale Forest Park, frantically trying to find a Prince's Trust group that were doing an unsupervised hike at lunchtime today. Can't begin to describe how relieved we were, firstly when we found the group, and then when we were told (by Cumbria Police) that the maniac was 'no longer a risk' - as he'd been heading in our general direction.

We were lucky, but many others weren't, and my sympathies are with those who've been affected by today's events round here.

And this is why we do not want firearms in this country. This is not a bad objective, I'd love us to be a nation of sword-wielding maniacs again.

It's a trade off, single incidents are going to be a bit worse, but overall there is a much, much, much, much, much...I could go on for a while here...much lower incidence of shooting spree killings.

As I always say in these threads, Gun laws for the US suit the US where there is a mass proliferation of firearms. UK gun laws suit the UK where there are very few firearms in the hands of civilians or criminals.

PS, given that he was armed with a .22 and a shitgun [EDIT:lol, shotgun heh] in a rural area I would put money on them being legally owned.

So true. But yeah this was awful. But this doesn't really prove anything, it's just one crazy guy.

Hmm... apparently sarcasm only works for you? And at least one armed security guard seems like a good idea in any school campus, wouldnt you agree?

Now this has to be the most sensible argument I've seen for this. Thank you sir, I will adopt this stance.

Or, someone could have nuetralized the threat quickly and possibly without loss of human life.

The right to bear arms is a right every human should have, not one politicians should decide.

Do you see what I did there?

It's...just wrong. Innocent people dying because of someone goes out of Control with a gun.

Calumon: ... *Silent in the memory of those lost*
I agree, it's horrible that innocent people died because of someone who got out of control with a gun.

I'm just glad that there haven't been major killing sprees in Norway in a loong time, not that I can recall of.

12 people killed by one madman with a gun.

You see, if we legalised guns over here, this sort of thing would happen much more frequently.

EDIT: Yes, OK, if guns were legal over here, someone could have stopped him. But then there would be a lot more guns on the streets, and thugs with knives would become thugs with guns. You can outrun someone with a knife. Outrunning bullets is something much harder.
Obviously they don't have bullet time over there. (joke)

I always wonder how people do that. It takes a lot of pressure for someone to actually snap. It makes me curious what was going through his head.

Seems like another case where the guy just snapped? Dont know what else could have happened.
nah, he was OBVIOUSLY inspired by gta
im surprised it hasnt been mentioned yet

or maybe saints row 2, in fact, videogames in general i'd say were what did it
we should ban 'em all
Finally, someone talking sense! I say he was also hopped up on all that rap music.

In all seriousness my condolences go to the families of the victims and I hope the media doesn't hound them about this.
I heard that the guy shot from a yellow car. Do you see? A YELLOW car! It's that colour yellow that drove him crazy. You know what, without that colour, this wouldn't have happened. BAN THE COLOUR YELLOW! IT'S THE ONLY ANSWER!
