Knives are more lethal than firearms.
How do you come to that conclusion?
How? For an example a 9mm bullet is 1.169 inch long and diameter is .394 inch (over twice as small as a US dime). Compare to a kitchen knife is very very very small. If you get stabbed by a knife the chances are very very very great that it will hit a vital organ than a bullet. What firearms have is range.
ITT: People who don't know how bullets work. Hydrostatic shock is a *****.
About 600,000 people in Britain legally own a shotgun, most of them farmers and hunters in rural areas. Witnesses described Bird as using a shotgun or a rifle.
Anyone want to take bets that the UK government overreacts on this (as usual)?
There is no person more determined than someone who wants to go on a killing spree.
True story mang. Legalize them, illegalize em, it doesn't matter. Someone who wants to go start killing people will do it anyway they can. It just annoys me that whenever something like this happens, it turns into a damned debate, and a badly argued one at that. People always seem to forget about things like poverty levels, education levels, substance abuse issues, general cultural differences, and so forth. Also, don't forget raw size. The UK is a small place and what works for you probably works great partly because of that.
The US is a huge god damned country with a lot of variables. For instance where I live, I need a handgun. Not because I'm afraid I'm gonna get mugged, but because bears, wolves, and (if the latest sightings are true), cougars are a *****. I don't go hiking without my pistol tucked on my body somewhere because I don't want to get turned into kibble. Sure, I could just bring a shotgun, but that's bulky and if I am on a trail, I'd rather not have an exposed firearm just out of courtesy. I don't want to seem like some crazyman in case I do happen to run into other people out there.
Meanwhile I've got city dwelling assholes out there trying to dictate policy to me even though they live in what amounts to a totally different world. We're both Americans, but we're seperated by vastly different terrain, subtle cultural differences, and the fact that they probably haven't seen a wild animal up close ever. What works for them won't work up here, at all. So yes, I carry a concealed handgun when appropriate. It is a tool, and I use it as such. Deal with it.
