This is all getting out of hand. Right now most of you are are just bashing the op over the head with this. I had a good high school experience in my view, but that dosen't justify it completely. I've seen alought of idiot teens yes; but I can't help but think that, dumb as some are, can do more than just cashiering. The articale isn't just about the high school it's the view of teens in general, and it's coming from a very smart and successful person. Give it a little more thought before writing it off completely, and if you say "you think of something better" that's what YOUR supposed to be thinking about!
um.... Shouldnt he make up an idea since he wants it gone? And besides, just because highschools are broken, that doesnt mean you get rid of it. If your car is broke you dont just throw it away and buy a new one (well, unless you're insanely rich, or saved up). And of course high school kids hate high school. Who honestly likes to do time consuming work that doesnt pay them? Besides, its also the very smart and successful men who condemn video games, so you cant just take thier words as gospel.

Yes, lets put a large percentage of people out of work (not just teachers) so that teenagers can just dick around and not do anything between 8th grade and college.

Given by your typing skills TC, you need high school.

Stick up for yourself, be yourself, and just do your damn work. Shit, its not that hard. I went to a good high school, so I don't know exactly how bad it can get, but I definitely understand ostracization for being different. But fuck it, I found my group of friends too, and I stuck with them and fuck everyone else.
Well, we couldn't ALL fit in with the panda clique, now could we?

Damn cool kids

Luckily I found my place amongst the wolves...

Anyways, by the looks of your OP, you need some schoolin'. And this is a slippery slope, if we booted highschool (which is a bad idea) what comes next? College? A formal education altogether?

Highschool is a vital cornerstone of society.

No, we shouldn't get rid of high school. Getting rid of the institution where bulling, clicks and other things take place won't get rid of them. It'll all find other places to take place like malls and other public functions. Plus, high school is the merging point between being a kids and becoming an adult. If you lose that, then you'll have to go from kid to adult with no time to adjust to the change, which will screw you up.

A cuple of days ago in my compositon class we read an article about how high schools and how their time has past because of all the clicks, bulling, teachers, etc.

http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-163471123.html

This is similar to the article i read.

What do you think should we get rid of high schools?
Well, given your spelling and grammar... I kid, I kid.

Seriously though, what you learn in high school isn't so much the knowledge, but how to deal with shit like cliques, bullying, assholes, etc. It's the social lessons that are important more than the knowledge, and you simply can't learn that without high school because that's where those lessons are learned.

That's the last thing I have to put in here.
I really hope not...

Anyway, you must be trolling. All the negatives you've stated has been in schools ever since they were open.

High School is necessary, and whoever thinks it's not should leave and try live the rest of their life.

But seriously I would rather see high school get a reform instead of no high school at all, I mean seriously do you know how many irresponsible worthless parents are out there? They would not teach their kids shit. And then there would be parents who would want to teach their kids but are too busy with their jobs... but then again it would make plenty of job options for tutors available, but not everyone would be able to afford that.

High school making people have poor self-esteem? Honestly, when I started high school was when I first started feeling good about myself. There are more diverse personalities, letting me choose who I socialize with more carefully, and letting kids pick what electives they take puts me in with people who share similar interests. Clubs helped with that as well.

I think whoever wrote that article needs to go back to highschool. It is structured so poorly it distracts from the point he is trying to make.

You've opened up the gates for the bashing to take destroy you.

Trust me, in a thread like this one trying to convince us that education is bad, I cannot tell you how much spelling and grammar is important.

No, but what might be an idea is an enforced year of work in Walmart/Starbucks/McDs BEFORE high school, to encourage them to really take advantage of their school years.

It would also mean we grew up in a world where EVERYONE had spent a year behind the counter having to deal with *eww* customers. It may even bring about a world where most people remembered those years and decided not to treat those behind the counter like crap for doing their job.

That is true, and I personally don't want high schools to be done away with, just reformed in some way. What im getting at is that people are being pretty hard on the op for saying what do you think. Plus the op never actually said in the post that he agreed. It's just gotten really bad here.

Well, since I am going to college now to be a high school teacher, I am biased, but no. I think we should revise school policies and discourage bullying where possible, but to be honest: people are now, have always been and forever will be bastard covered bastards with a creamy bastard filling.
