-Yes, the personality thing is one. Instead of changing dials you choose traits for your Sims, like moron or kiss ass (ok, maybe not thoughts two).

-Constant open world, everyone doing everything at the same time in one huge neighborhood.

-Customize individual objects and pieces of furniture.

I'm looking forward to it. I find it pretty two faced that the people who usually say graphics don't matter kick up a fuss when they don't meet their standards. The technology behind a constantly working neighborhood, if it works, is quite a leap for the Sims.

But whatever,I'm a dude and I'm hyped for the Sims 3. What you going to do?
You really stole the words from my mouth. These are the exact reasons that I'm getting a tad pumped for The Sims 3. I really hated how, in the Sims 2, I would have to constantly switch families to keep my characters from mysteriously aging faster than everyone else.

Hell, I had a character who got engaged three days after he turned adult, and before I knew it, he was an old man engaged to a hot blond bombshell.

Obscene amounts of money?
They're profiting off of sheeple.
I wish I could do the same.
You already are my friend. Wait a second, that doesn't make any sense.

I don't know, I never saw the point of The Sims. I kind of understand Sim City though, soaking in fake political power and balancing all the needs of the city is kind of fun.

I'm guessing that's the appeal, but on a smaller scale.
You can't drive a tank through your sims house...

I just hope they're not really foolish enough to think they can charge twenty bucks for "stuff packs" when you can go to any modders' resource on the Internet and just download better stuff for free.
They're still trying to do it for Spore, so it's likely they will still do "stuff packs".

It's more insidious than that, though -- from what I've heard, they're trying to set up a DLC-style shop: you buy a certain amount of "points" with real money and then use up your points buying individual in-game items from an online store. (Although it did sound like they'd have third-party content in the store as well, so you'd probably also be able to get points if you make something that other people want.)
They already do this in The Sims.

Also, WTB Massive Thread Necro.

Whatever.. I've been with the sims since number 1 and 3 is a fun little game. It runs way better then 2, slight graphic upgrades, the open town is pretty cool, and the AI is massively improved. Alot of the tiny trivial things have been removed and the sim creations is WHOA. The game launch menu/homepage is vastly improved, loading times are much shorter if none at all considering it's an entire town. The new personality traits are wicked. SO don't hate bitches but this is the best sims game to date.

Aside form the fact that the new sims "look" resembles that of a living mannequin. kinda creepy.

I haven't played the Sims in years, so I got the Sims 3.
It's got a little more detail than the original, slightly better graphics, and good God, you finally get cars.

If you've got the Sims 2, it's not worth getting, I guess. It's still fun to play.

*shrug* I've heard it's pretty good, and I'll definitely buy it when the price drops a bit.

But by all means, you guys continue getting ridiculously angry about a game no one's forcing you to play.

They talk about it there.
I fell asleep like two and a half minutes into that movie. The dude's just playing dress up with a customizable doll.

I played The Sims 3 and loved it. You've got so much freedom to craft your own story now that it's uncanny.

The Sims always catered to several types of gamers: The Torturer, the Storyteller, the Builder, the Collector, the Min-Maxer and the Sim Creator. All of them have new toys now.
The Torture can now make their Sim a cowardly klutz who is afraid of going outside, for instance.
The Storyteller gets a built-in video editor, the ability to move the camera all over the city without loading, and much more freedom in their Sims' actions (your needs are easier to fulfill, giving you more time to do what you want
The Builder can go crazy creating styles and placing stuff at ANY ANGLE he wants.
The Creator has one of the most robust character creators in history, and the personality traits are much better than the sliders from earlier titles. Also some nice little touches, like your Sim's personality affecting what he or she paints (lonely Sims never paint people, for instance)
The Collector can... collect more stuff. Fish, recipes, songs, paintings, rocks, gems, anything you want, and there's an incentive for collecting each.
The Min-Maxer (or the guy who "games" The Sims)... well, it's the same as before, but easier and yet more rewarding.
