I'm a decent sniper, not the best but decent. I just had a look at my old BF:BC Recon stats.

I have 87% accuracy with my M24 with a 6.826 gun K/D.

I hate snipers. Hate hate hate. Not to be rude, but the majority of snipers are cowardly pricks that exploit the world geometry.

If you do not exploit the geometry, and fight with your team, than the above statement does not apply to you.

If you're a sniper you are a waste of a player slot.

Grab a machine gun and advance the objective.
last paintball game i was in they had a sniper team that would kill the enemies general for 250 points, and paintball, on some level can be compared to a shooter

Aaaah, i see where your coming from, your like me, you get bored after your top player for a while, i have that problem lately too...
If it took any skill I'd agree with you, but since it doesn't this is just mindless pretentious arrogance,
Someone sounds like he is compensating, what else do you play aside from FPSs?
use gun on man?

From time to time i go pistol rush, and it kills sub-machine guns quite well :S

Ok srsly i get where your coming from OP, but you do come off as pretentious. Also, as D_987 said before me, most of the games u mention do not require skill in the slightest, and the rest are single player. Therefore you should consider the fact that bragging about your skill is a tad arrogant. To answer the OP however, i would like to say that people bragging about sniping is just a way to bolster their confidence about the game. Its like saying you have mastered the grenade in TF Classic, its unlikely but possible, therefore believable, so people might be impressed. Its just a way for people to bolster their confidence, and if you don't like it, challenge them. If they turn you down, there not worth beating.

It's taken me hours to become a half-decent Sniper in TF2. Got three dominations in one life the other day and that's as far as I've got. And I barely ever hit people with the Huntsman.

im an all right sniper, not the best but good enough. my main problem though is that i usually get bored after a while and move and that is the moment everyone seems to come out of hiding and shoot me from 7 different directions, and i swear none of them were there before.

I for one appreciate a good sniper watching my back. Most of my friends play amazing snipers. They WILL headshot you from across the map with any pistol in CS. The few that made it into BF2 takes out chopper pilots and jeep drivers with ease. They're also pretty good at positioning and just cover-firing in general. The only problem is we hate using microphones, which makes it impossible to coordinate an attack when we're playing from across the country after we graduated.

A good Sniper MUST communicate with his team, even more than the scout type (read: me). A sniper that's not in position cannot do anything for anyone. And the team must clear the path for the sniper as well (except maybe TF2, where it's much easier for Sniper to get in place due to the nature of the maps.)

I'm trying not to come off as pretentious or cocky, but you try getting through my point without sound like that.

I'll admit without hesitation, i die frequently in some matches, like in CoD5 Dome, I'll still use a sniper, even if it is stupid, thing i can't spawn 5 seconds without getting killed by someone.

Personally though, i want a challenge, i bought GH3 randomly because i was running out of games to play one time, after i got past expert, that became boring. I am really hoping someone adds me and challenges me on, saaaaaay CoD4 and beats me senseless, so then i have someone i can try and beat, ergo a challenge.

i hate them too, i snipe but only from the areas i can get to quickly, so that if i do die i don't have to preform some complex series of actions to get to the right place. and geometry is there for a reason dammit, stop breaking mah level design

Sniping is like that, 'cept the staring thing is only one way.

So what game do you snipe on, because what your describing sounds to be some kind of mystical console game in which sniping actually take skill and the maps are big enough for the sniper not to be seen - I've only played one like that, and its not that great...

The only console game I have played that I would consider sniping to be a genuine skill is in Battlefield : Bad Company.
Quoted for truth.

On consoles, sniping is very crude, usually buffed by aim assist, as they are incredibly slow and inaccurate compared to PC snipers.

I'm not a brilliant sniper on most console FPS games, though I'd say I'm just above average on Halo, above average on Battlefield: Bad Company, and below average on Gears of War.

Give me a mouse and keyboard however, and I'll make the brains fly. How I miss the days of Battlefield 2.
