Well, either way if the world does go KAPUT that day then, meh... I don't have to do exams then :D.

Otherwise its just going to be another day, so doesnt really bother me at all to be honest... Besides theres nothing you can do if and only if it does happen right?

In case of the 153 Days of pain, I'm kinda hoping it would be a Zombie apocalypse then :D.

Scientists estimate that the Earth is approx. 4.6 billion years old, and can back this up with data. They also estimate the universe itself is around 14 billion years old. Personally, I'm going to go with what the data tells me rather than some nut's interpretation of a book that is not supposed to be taken literally.

I like big numbers. So sue me.
And yeah, I also would rather trust science...

I tried using your point about light speed when arguing with a YEC once...His response? God distorts time and space to test believers. I've also read online that God created the earth in a "time bubble" to "protect" it. From what, it didn't say.

There's no arguing with people who want to believe certain things.
Wait...What?! I don't even...

Gah, fundies give me a headache. A time bubble? Seriously?! I don't know who you were talking to, but they must have been REALLY out of whack. I almost dread what this person would have to say about the fossil record.

I would too. It's far more tangible and actually explains how things occur and forces us to question and expand our knowledge rather than just say "This is how it is, now shut up and accept it."

To quote Steven Hawking:

"There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority [imposed dogma, faith], [as opposed to] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works."

i was always skeptical about the "end" even though apocalypse actually means reborn or new age, or something that.

besides i'll believe when i see it next year.

Warning people about the end of the world?
I never really got the point of that. If the world is going to end, there's nothing we can do about it and going around telling people about it only spreads sadness or fear. Also, even if you were to start "repenting" because someone told you the world was gonna end in a few weeks, that's a pretty piss poor reason to do so.

Not that I'm religious, just covering my bases. That and I like tearing apart these "prophecies" because I believe these people only do this for extremely self-serving reasons, and disguise it with religion. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Yup, these "Christians" have really been batting 1000 on these prophecies...You know what? I think I get their game finally. They're doing a shotgun spread so eventually they'll hit the day that Earth finally does kick the bucket.

Also anyone that tries to solve one dogmatic doomsday prophecy with exacting math using an estimate as the main variable really shouldn't be so sure of themselves.
What he said.

Also, I've always wondered: If you're certain of the apocalypse, why tell everyone? Just causes unnecessary worry and suffering...
This guy wants us to know so that when the day comes, we should repent as the sinners we are and as a broken people, beg for God's forgiveness and mercy.
But...I thought God forgives us anyway? Hmm...
Where'd you hear that? God forgives you even if you don't repent? You don't have to do anything?

...So what we have a week and a day? Great.
Seriously people need to stop harping on about the end of the world.

Prophecies that the world will end based in religion or lies numbers in the hundreds of millions, and thus far we have seen a 0% accuracy rate. Further claims with no grounding in science should therefore not be cause for concern.

A small splinter group of christians, led by Harold Camping(who also predicted this would happen in 1994) has predicted the apocalypse on May 21 at 6:00 P.M.(local time), a claim which they say is based on
1)The 7,000 anniversary of Noah's flood
2)The 13,023 anniversary of creation, and that
3)Supposing that Jesus Christ was killed on April 1st in the year 33 A.D., which would make May 21st the 722,500th day after his death(I did the math and, taking into account leap years, it's actually around 722,514 days, which would make this part of the argument invalid.), which is the product arrived at with the equation (5x10x17)^2. According to Camping, five means "atonement", ten "completeness" and 17 "heaven"(although what that "squared" is doing there is anybody's guess). The group seems to be hanging up billboards to warn everyone of the impending end of the world.
I'll probably be ninja'd on this, but Jesus Christ didn't die in April. Good Friday and Easter are celebrated in April for the same reason that Christmas is celebrated in December: to overshadow the pagan celebrations that used to be commonplace on those dates. By the way, the reason for the bunnies and eggs is that "Easter" used to be a pagan sex festival.

Well. If it is the "Apocalypse", is there anything you can do to stop it? Is there anything you can do to get away from it? Should you worry about it?
The answer to all of these questions should be No.
Like a huge meteor hitting the earth or the super volcano under Yellowstone erupting.
It's inevitable that it will happen at some point and there isn't much we can do to prevent it so why worry?

Anyway. I'm quite sceptical about the whole "2012 = end of the world" thing. Its supposed to happen, like, a million times this year and I have exams and stuff to stress about instead.
However, if the world does end then I will be very pissed off. All that revision and studying for nothing! I could have spent that time having fun.
Ah well.
Come what may.

Well shit, I'll only have 1 day with L.A Noire then.
Ha, was exactly my first thought too.

When the world inevitably doesn't end according to these predictions, are the people involved disappointed? Relieved?...

They're correct giving that the bible is such an accurate source of information... hehehehe.

Anyways, it's bullshit. The media will eat the ever loving shit out of this just like it's currently trying to exploit the "asteroid" thing.

But the apocalypse will be predated by the rapture, yes? Isn't most of the church still behind the pre-tribulation (that's Hell on Earth to all you non-ex-fundies out there) rapture thing (never mind that the rapture isn't mentioned in the bible)?

Either way, I would be happy if all these nuts were swept up by their god this month and left the rest of us to deal with the real problems of the world.

Uh-oh. Is that taboo based on the new forum rules (he asked sincerely)? Dammit, I knew I should've read that thing!
