*sigh* When will fat people stop crying about being fat and just hit the gym? (Also, don't read the comments. Made me want to vomit. One of these days people will realize that the best way to get people to take them seriously as a subsection of the population is to stop waving their banners that say, "I'M DIFFERENT! BUT DON'T TREAT ME DIFFERENT!")

Anyway, now that that's out of my system, I fail to see where the author finds fault with the game, all I got was a heavy helping of "omfg fu sony, fat is beautiful. Also, girls rock! Wooo!"

Get. Over. Yourselves.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am what you might describe as corpulent. I'm not a house, by any means, but I'm definitely heavy. This isn't something I'm ashamed of, however, and it's sure as shit not something that's going to make me blame my own diminished sense of self-worth out on some faceless corporation. It's also something people are in TOTAL CONTROL OF CHANGING. Don't like being fat and unattractive? Go to the fucking gym and eat better, fatty McFatfat.

I could see being offended if you were rushing in to rescue a prince and the opposing team kept exposing him to the gay as a way to keep you from being able to rescue him...

PS: Also, this game looks amazing and I'm going to buy it day 1 and recommend that all of my friends do the same.

PPS: If this game is anti-feminist, these chicks must HATE Super Mario Bros...

PPPS: I lied, there is some comment gold in that blog. Like this. [http://i33.tinypic.com/okapav.jpg]
Well put!

I for one think that this game shows alot of innovation, if not in gameplay then certainly storlyine.
People forget that games are there to be played, enjoyed and admired in some cases. This title certianly looks charming and stylistic.
I wish people would get over themselves and stop pigeon-holing creativity as derogatory.
It's not like they've chained up a dying dog in a museum and starved it to death, then proceeded to call it art.

That to me is where you draw the line on expressive media, if this game depicted a fat chick chained up in a room and dying then yes... i reckon you'd warrant some kind of complaint against it. But until that game surfaces SHUT UP AND HIT THE GYM!

There was another case like this with i think a Dutch man drowning a kitten and calling it art.

Though how the cat reacted was I think grossly hyperbolized, it was still sick and wrong.

and what aspect of the game is a misnotion that she finds offensive?

that morbidly obese women are immobile or slow?
that morbidly obses women are difficult to lift?

other than the rapid way in which the princess becomes obese, every other represented aspect of the game seems on the money.

The idiocy of these people isn't surprising considering how most self-proclaimed feminists are actually sexist themselves. I swear, modern feminism is just one big irony.

I can kind of see how someone could be offended by this, but at the same time we all know very well that this would be the type of ***** to complain that no damsel in distress is a fat, grotesque lard like she is. So, if a game about fat chicks makes this fat chick mad, I'll support it fully.

There's actually three waves of Feminism, and the original Suffragists were the non-violent protestors who paved the way for the Suffragettes, who took to the big flashy movements to get their point across.

Each wave of feminism seems to think the others are not far enough/too far, but they fail to focus on what they want to change, rather than what they want to achieve.

Mainly because gender/orientation doesn't work against nepotism or favouritism, which are the main components for the 'glass ceiling'.

If we were heading for 'Universal Sufferage' though, I'd be behind it all the way.

As for 'fat chicks'...which male doesn't find Nigella Lawson sexy? Or Chaka Khan?

The problem with the woman whose complaining about it is she's using equally sexist viewpoints herself, and is drawing attention to her own size.

If she just shush and got on with her life, no-one would have paid her the slightest bit of...

Oh, that's the point, isn't it? 15 minutes and all that...

The woman writing that article has no real right to be upset. I'm a little sick of fat people getting indignant when they are mocked or portrayed negatively in the public eye. Now, for the record, I don't really care about a woman's weight--I actually prefer a bit of fat to a girl--but it does bug me when fat people get all up in arms about this. I hate to break it to you, but you're fat for a reason, and more often than not, that reason is because you eat a lot and you don't exercise.
Why does the ability to change a characteristic give people the right to mock you or portray you negatively in the public eye? Do you think it's acceptable to make fun of people for their religion--people change their religion all the time. How about their nationality? People change their citizenship all the time. Sex/gender? You can get that changed too these days.

I understand where you're coming from: the idea we've all been fed is that we protect only immutable characteristics. That's not true though: we protect plenty of things that people could change if they wanted.
But we DO mock people for their religion, nationality, and sex. That's just the thing--most humor, at least good humor, is notoriously unPC. I'm not saying that it is neccessarily right to mock or harass or dehumanize anyone based on outside appearance, but...well, let's take a point from George Carlin.

Words aren't bad. Its the intention behind those words that can be bad. You can make Jew jokes all the time, for example, but there's a difference between making a joke about something for the purpose to entertain or amuse and making a joke or hateful comment about something for the purpose to make another person feel bad or inferior. Comedy, traditionally, is one of the most honest platforms we have--a great amount, a GREAT amount of social criticism, commentary and debate is brought up in Comedy--the truth is a hard pill to swallow, and comedy, wrapped around a nugget of truth, is much like a glass of water to ease that pill down. I say, go ahead. Make jokes, tease, poke, prode, insult, question--those are American freedoms, and that is what Free Speech exists for. Mock if you must, so long as you don't do it hurtfully.

Plus, this game isn't so much anti-fat as it is logical. I mean, if you want to make it hard to rescue a princess, ballooning her up to 500 pounds is a pretty good tactic. It's not anti-fat--its just true. It takes a LOT of effort to relocate a 500 pound ANYTHING when under enemy fire, survellance or guard. It makes sense, and if you get offended well, frankly, chill the fuck out, eh?

That's my stance.

God! I could rant about this for hours. I see it all boiling down to this. Fat people are under represented in games because they physically can't do a lot of this that thin, athletic people can. e.g. flying roundhouse kicks to the face in soul calibur
Also, most game creators realize that the majority of people don't want to follow round a main character that is fat and for the majority of people fat is unattractive. I mean, at least GTA allows the player to become fat if he or she wishes.
I think this obese feminist just has low self esteem, and really, she makes such a big deal out of this game because really, playing games one of the things she can actually do instead of going out for a jog, and play sports, etc. Maybe the answer to america's obesity problem is to fit thinner doors to Game stores...

stay tuned for next week it will be: WHY AREN'T THERE FAT PEOPLE AT THE OLYMPICS?!?!?!

From what I gather...the enemy who captured the *thin* princess stuffed her with food and made her into a *fat* princess so it would be difficult for her rescuers to carry her away. I don't see a reason to get up-in-arms about it. It's not bashing or making fun of overweight people. Perhaps the name offended that woman? Frankly, I think her ridiculous rant speaks more about her own self-confidence issues than it does about a game that's anti feminist or discriminating.
Actually, looking at the premise, RESCUE THE FAT GIRL, I think it PROMOTES the love of fat girls, but hey, My ex-wife was a fat, ugly, conniving, Manipulative, *****, and I will never trust fat women again because of it... So what do I know? Maybe I am just being insensitive again? I don't think so, though.
You'll never trust fat women again?

Wow, Jallil is making great strides with you. Wasn't so long ago you'd never again trust any women.

And congratulations to Shamtee for realizing that happiness isn't just about dress size. Some people live long lives without ever being happy because of not fitting some stereotype.

I didn't read all of the comments, so this might have been said already, but, apparantly, the "Person who thought up the look for the game is a woman." (Screwattack: Hardnews). Here is a link to this episode.

Skip to about 1:55 for the part about "Fat Princess."

I remember once, there was this fat ***** in California that sued the DMV because her Randomly generated License Plate number was something like FAT3657. Naturally, she was a fat white woman. Is anyone else surprised? No? Me neither.
Wait, does this story end with her pulling up to the DMV and there's a bloody hook hanging from the handle of her car door?
I'd love to see the actual, factual citation of this. Wherever it was, it wasn't California - the California license plate doesn't use that format.
