I really don't understand why people are so hard on Gears of War. It would be idiotic, unrealistic, irresponsible writing if the characters were displaying emotions left and right. They're a bunch of focused bad-asses fighting a losing war after the world has basically been destroyed. Not a lot of necessary character growth or depth there. It's the same basic setup as the crew from Predator. Those guys weren't exactly reading poetry or exploring their feelings either, and that's because it would have been stupid for them to do so.

That scene made her cry? You need to get yourself a less sensitive girlfriend. If my (theoretical) girlfriend cried over something like that I'd dump her for being a wuss.
You win sir, +1

MAN UP.
..........dnt lie...you would take advantage of her weakness and try n get some....i mean common...
Looks like somebody's projecting.
.....im not gonna lie id use this as a "baby id never let you get captured" moment...and then BAM!!!! im like friggin superman for the next...8-12 hours untill we fight again lol. (results may vary anywhere from superman to batman and aquaman)

Mate, raise your standards a little. Why the hell would I want to do some crying chick? That's just not cool. She sounds like a pussy.

Also, 1) I don't need to try to get some and 2) I don't need to take advantage of any weakness to get some.

MAN UP.
1. don't need to try, but put the effort in anyway because it's so damn good
2. being female is an inherant weakness, to not take advantage would mean masterbation

aside from that take advantage, ditch the woman, spread your seed further afeild

***the above reasoning has been thought up only as a hypothetical answer, may not represent the actual veiws of the writer***

How sad. How old are you, twelve? Either that, or some sort of alien creature who was abandoned on this planet by his own people.
You don't seem to grasp complex human interactions and relationships at all.

My girlfriend cried because I killed a moth. Yeah.

I don't think I've ever managed to emotionally involve any family in my gaming but quite often I'll be playing a game on the Xbox, and when my mother comes in she's always like 'Wow, those graphics are amazing. It almost looks real'.
Moths are God's children, you monster.

Anyway, I wish I could make my family care about video games. My dad will occasionally appreciate a game's graphics, but that's as far as he'll go.

The scene made me cry... that my plan didn't go through. You see I was playing with a friend and was Dom. So right before the scene I wasted all of my bullets so that Dom would have to chain saw his wife. Didn't work. But in all seriousness the closest I ever got to crying over a game was when they killed you know who in Left 4 Dead 2. He was my favorite character.

While I'll admit that THAT scene in Gears of War 2 did get me to at least let out an emotional sigh I was never really moved to the point of tears. That said not many games do move me to the point of tears although often I find myself smiling warmly at things in games that I find quite sweet and likeable like for instance seeing all the former Little Sisters in Bioshock happily playing in Tenenbaum's safehouse.

Still if I had to pick a game that had a lot of tearful moments it's easily Mass Effect 2. One example was the scene where Shepard gazes lovingly at Ashley's photo, which I held up quite high as an example of emotional balance and mood with music and shot composition:

Among others were Tali seeing her dead father and sobbing, then there was Mordin's loyalty mission where he stared in disbelief at the krogan test subjects and then Thane talking to his son.
Just generally I grew to like the cast because of the emotion within each scene.

Incidently I never picked a romance in Mass Effect 2 (cause I like me some Ashley) but if I had been going to pick one it would definetly be Jack simply because I saw the clip of her romance on Youtube and it is quite moving:

Your family officially rocks. No two ways about it.

Edit: Should have added my own anecdote! Ah well, anyway...
My girlfriend hates shooting games, but she really got into Bioshock, especially listening to audio logs and just exploring the whole world. Unlike me she has no qualms harvesting little sisters though. I feel this is worrying...

Although I don't find gears story all that engaging (Still a great game though)

I do have to agree with the way Games are now more emotional and better told than books. Although still a not too great story game my girlfriend watched me play GTA IV and (This is the part where I wish I could put a spoiler tag up...) near the very end of the main story

SPOILER:

Depending on choice someone very important dies.

END SPOILER:

And she burst into tears and never criticizes my gaming now. I just wish my mother could watch a good engaging game so she would stop it...

my parents were apalled at how i played GTA3. i finally got it and they decided to watch me play (i guess to see what all the controversy was about). they watched for five minutes while i ran over as many people as i could and they just chuckled.

I teared up a bit when
your family gets killed in the human origin in Dragon Age. Especially when you find Fergus's son dead, after refusing to teach him how to use a sword the day before.

Damn you, Bioware *sniff*

OT: If she's crying at Gears, you should let her play FFVII. End of disk one waterfalls, my boy.

Wait, what? I'm a girl, and I can cry as well as the rest of them at the sad parts, but that part was in no way sad enough. Like, seriously. There was hardly any emotion in that scene. It was all "I'm so sorry, I tried my best", and then "well, guess I have to go now and leave you behind because you're more of a burden than three large guns and heavy battle armor, buh bye".

The only game that has ever made me cry was Half Life Episode Two. I didn't even play it, but when my boyfriend got to the end of that, oh yeah, I was crying like a baby. And continued crying anytime I remembered the ending. But I am a daddy's girl.

The corrrect response to this event is to fly to Epic headquaters and tell CliffyB that he made you girlfriend cry and to then challenge him to a duel to the death.
