There's not really an "age" where people start thinking about sex. "Thinking about sex" all depends on the household you grow up in. I never even knew what sex was until I was 11 and watched "the video" in 5th grade. Other children live with the knowledge of it from extremely young ages (not to mention that extremely young children can and do experiment with masturbation).

Once puberty hits and hormones start flying, that's when most teens generally start thinking about it and getting urges. And puberty hits at different ages...I finished my growth spurt and voice changes at 13, and I have a friend who's turning 15 next month and his voice has just started to change. So it's really all relative.

Either way, I'm still a virgin (I'm 18) and I plan on waiting til I get married...so actually engaging in it depends on personal beliefs, morals, and ethics I guess.

Sorry to sound like a know it all...but yeah, psych major. It helps with this kind of stuff. :)

As long as they are careful not to get/get them impregnated I think it's up to them.
The problem is most people aren't careful and end with a kid or having to have an abortion at an age that is far too young.

For that reason I think 16ish because they have more a sense of responsibilty.
But you can't stop them thinking about it, and if you try to stop them they'll want it more. Hormones and puberty are fun like that.

I like the 16 boundary in the UK. I think most people by then are going to be ready and its not so high as to be unrealistic (seriously, 18?, wtf US?).
If you're referring to the age of consent, it just means that an 18 year old can't have sex with a 14 year old, even if it's consensual. Two 14 year olds having sex aren't going to get arrested (although they might get in trouble with their parents :p)

Its state by state I think. So in some places its far stricter than others. In Canada they have a form...

I think the age where if you heard a 45 yr old had sex with her you wouldn't think rape right away, Definitely not 14.
Why is it ok for little boys to have sex with little girls as 'long as they're ready and use birth control' but as soon as you raise the male's age up 40 years its unacceptable?
Double standard? Only old men are able to take advantage of little girls? Or is the acceptable age too low? This issue doesn't come up with 20yr olds on 50yr olds. I wonder why.... maybe HERE they're at the age where they can decide?

Also why do we say 'lose your virginity'? Is it something negative to have that should be discarded as soon as possible?
I think of it as a precious gift you can only give to one person, one you don't just give to the first person willing to take it during middle school.

It's like your bfg 9000, you save it even though you have chances to use it because you know you'll need it for the spider mastermind at the end. Kinda.

Yeah, you're right, the state I'm in it's 17, not 18.

And lolz @ Canada.

I consider that at age 14 someone isn't mature enough to handle the options of pregnancy. I know they could use protection but if something happens and the girl gets pregnant that means a 14 year old will now either have to have an abortion, keep the baby, or put the baby up for adoption.

I say 16-17 is the appropriate age of consent. At least than I hope they are mature enough to understand what could happen in case something does go wrong.

I think 14 is a bit young but if they're both up for it then who am I to get in the way? (well under the right circumstances of course).

I personally didn't really try to lose my virginity until about last year mainly due to the fact I've never been in a proper long term relationship until then but I am now so gigidy gigidy as they say?.

Feel unclean for using that phrase...

In all honesty, it's whenever you feel ready. I have no problems in saying I lost mine at 14, And that was right for me, I wouldn't change that fact. I wouldn't tell other that 14 is the correct age though because for most people it isn't. But each to their own.

I was 15 and it was with my girlfriend at the time which I don't think is too bad really.
I think if they're under 16 and doing it all the time when not in a relationship then it looks pretty bad. I dunno I personally think being in a relationship kinda makes it more acceptable.

I think you should think of the consequences of such a heavy decision. When you are talking to your husband/wife 10 years from then, do you really want to say "Oh, I lost my virginity in the back of a truck...what was their name again..." You should have enough respect for yourself to wait until you at least have been with a person long enough to trust giving them yourself for the first time. I feel like everyone treats the subject too lightly, like they're not really thinking about it at all. That's all besides pregnancy and STDs of course, but hopefully you have enough sense to use protection.

Some people choose to be celibate, but I don't understand them much.

I'd say legal age limit and perhaps a bit under. Your libido doesn't drastically change the instant you turn 16.
