So I just got expelled for smelling a girl's hair, or the Quirkyness of The Escapist Community.

Something I've been arguing in another thread from early this morning through to this afternoon: the habit this forum has of just being plain fucking rude to one another if it's a thread about something we deem to have a simple or 'obvious' solution. If it's a thread about something we're uninterested in, it's not enough just to leave. No, you have to flame the OP and act as if you're somehow above them.
That brings to mind the handful of 'I don't drink' replies you always find in threads about your preferred alcoholic beverage. It's a waste of finger-energy for the person typing the post, and the reader's/OP's patience.

"Am I the only one who?" threads.
You're not special, no one is.
Haha, they are too special. Just like everyone else.

Anyways, I really hate zombie threads (tired of them). Also, I dislike rage threads and "am I the only one who", and "she doesn't like me threads." I guess what I am saying is the Escapist isn't your personal therapist. Deal with it.

Maybe not so all present but I'm irritated when there is a news report or user post about something stupid or just plain bad, there will be someone who questions the common sense response of other users just for the sake of "discussion".

"Why is it so wrong to rape a child? You're just being conditioned by society to dislike it but I ask why?"
Obvious hyperbole, to get my point across easier.

Oh man. I was just about to tell of yesterday's round at the pub. A girl walked up to me and started sniffing my shirt. Like really sniffing. She had dug her nose into it.

She said I smelled nice :)

Oh, he's trying to make one of THOSE threads.
One of those misleading title threads that test people's intellect.

This is like, what, the third one?

Heh, maybe it isn't, maybe I'm far too suspicious, maybe I should stop replying altogether.

Maybe I said something that makes me looks stupid...

I don't really understand what's happening; did you smell someone's hair or not?
That was a joke. It just occurred to me that it's the kind of thread title that would have turned up here eventually, but probably in a non-satirical context.
You fool! Thanks for wasting my time. I might have taken a moment to actually contribute an opinion about shitty threads had you been honest in the thread title, but that time has been taken up with writing this angry post about how you misdirected escapees. Shame on YOU!

Hello, Escapist. We are a community with certain traditions and mannerisms; topics of discussion recur reasonably often, 'the basement' is alluded to every time we gain a new member, and certain turns of phrase have become ingrained in our vernacular. It's nice, it's cosy, it's familiar.
Be it zombie threads, losing your faith in humanity due to an encounter with urine on a toilet-seat or the desire to understand why some people don't like that franchise you like, certain threads and posts can be seen every day on our forums.

So..which little forum habit annoys you the most? I personally hate the whole 'Skynet' scenario, whereby any article about robotics will be bombarded with tired allusions to the Terminator franchise and proclamations of our imminent doom. That sh-t is annoying, and a disservice to roboticists.

Edit: Fixed the thread title, it was far too vague. Hope it worked, sorry about that.
So, what did her hair smell like? Also, is your avatar Bart Simpson wearing one of those bird masks from Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones?

Tulips, yearning and companionship.
It's my avatar from Echo Bazaar. I always thought the mask looked more similar to the Splicer headgear from Bioshock.

We can make up an elaborate story. Possibly involving some stealthiness with a pair of scissors and a ziploc bag.
But don't you find it somewhat worrying that you expected the thread title to be true? In most circles, a claim like that would be considered far too creepy to be taken seriously.

In my early days on the forum, I made it a point to be a crusader against list threads, they annoyed me to no end. I don't care as much now, however.

I demand the satisfaction of a story involving the OP sniffing someone's hair. If only the Escapist did mod challenges.

As I was sipping my morning tea and adjusting my monocle, I was also perusing around the internet public forum "The Escapist". It is one of my favorite sites on the internet, and I just happened upon a peculiar "thread" (as we call them). The title read: "So I just got expelled for smelling a girls hair..." so I said to myself "Why, this should be a riveting tale." I did not see the rest of the title, and I should have, for it would have been indicative of a clever ruse. 'Tis a shame. I wanted to guffaw at a silly tale.

I am open to collaborating on a fictional account of this scenario. Perhaps we should turn it into a story thread on the RP forum.
