I actually enjoy leveling up new characters... I had a whole slew of characters of various level I'd played, and one of my favorite aspects of the game was just exploring the various massive environments and doing the low level quests, you know, trying to see things from every perspective. I know I'm pretty much the only one who reads it, but the quest text was actually pretty well written and throughout the game there are a couple interesting storyline for different locations.

It was fun to jump into the games lore and backstory as it actually gave meaning to the locations you visit and a purpose behind the quests you do and the enemies you kill.

But then it seems I'm in the minority here. Quit playing awhile back because I'd pretty much seen everything I wanted to see, but I'll be coming back for Cataclysm.

As for level 80, raiding can be entertaining if you've got a good guild full of people who's company you enjoy, and at one point I did shortly after Burning Crusade came out. Damn fun times, ran SSC, TK, Gruul, Mag, Hyjal and Karazhan more times than I can count, however the constant joking and camaraderie kept it interesting. But once that guild fell apart and I joined a more hardcore guild for a time and... it just wasn't fun. I don't see the appeal of raiding for raidings sake.

I say just take your time and enjoy yourself. But then it seems I'm the minority. Most people are more concerned with getting fancy loot than exploring and enjoying the absolutely massive world Blizzard created. Pity.

Find friends to play with, that is the key to most people who "stick" with it. WoW is the most social game there is, you need other people for EVERYTHING, and its a lot of fun with friends.

New to WoW? Here are some things I've picked up:
Stay off of Tichondrius. I hear bad things about that place.
Turn off /1 any time you're in the barrens. Especially if you're horde.
Always, ALWAYS ask before needing. You'll know what this means when you see it.
There are tons of useful addons for WoW. Look on curse.com for Starter packs.
Find a good guild. The game is much more enjoyable with friends.
Ignore anyone that wants to sell you WoW gold for real money. It's against the game rules, and there are lots of scammers out there.
On Professions:
Inscription and Alchemy need Herbology for materials.
Blacksmithing, Engineering and Jewelcrafting need Mining for materials.
Leatherworking needs Skinning for Materials.
Enchanting and Tailoring can be taken with anything you want - Enchanting creates its own materials (for the most part), and Tailoring is mostly cloth based.
You can only have 2 of the above professions at a time, so choose wisely!

I greatly enjoy playing it. It really get's good around raiding and dungeons. the first 20 or so levels are BORING. after you get past that it really starts getting good when u tear into the meat of the game. and with the upcoming cataclysm expansion they are adding more content this fall. It's my favorite free online game.

Oh, right, and while this piece of advice might not be needed (you'll probably sign on to whatever server your friends are on), but if you need to make a choice of server...RP servers I've found are generally a safe choice. RPing doesn't come up as often as the name might imply, but the threat of it seems to keep away droves of less-polite folk. Avoid PvP servers.

Actually, I'm honestly curious as to why you say this. I just recently got my main up to 55 (well...59 now), and I rolled a death knight almost immediately. I have to say, that opening series of events was quite well done and affecting, and the class seems to be fun so far.

I'm only 58, and I've returned to concentrating on my Alliance characters, but is there anything I should watch out for?

Kiss whatever life you had on the outside goodbye. This game is very addictive and will pull you in too.

Though none of that is negative gameplay wise, I'm just pointint it out.

Don't listen to the people who've never played it. Most of the people saying it's shit, haven't even played it. Lord Nue might be a sign to the contrary, but at least he has reasons behind his hate.

I played it for a very long time, and loved it. It's not for everyone, so don't let anyone else's experiences tarnish your own.

2 things, dk one first, dks have a bad rap for being played by noobs, much worse than what hunters get.

rp server advice, my ex gf use to play on a rp server, rp servers are good if you like watching people nerd rage about spelling grammar and punctuation errors.

Not always. While it's true that tailoring is the normal profession to take with Enchanting, it really depends what class you are. Unless you're a caster, it's actually not a good idea to use tailoring to max enchanting.

On the side: Don't edit someone else's quote with your opinion. Especially if you're not going to conform to that person's grammar.

Don't do it!! It will consoom ur lief!

All I can say is be prepared for lots of gibberish when you enter the main cities, but I guess your friends will explain that to you. You'll catch on pretty quickly, and it probably won't apply to you until you're level 80, so don't worry if you don't know what the hell everyone's on about.

Uhm. Play the free trial before you buy it? Sounds like a good advice to me.

the people who actually are trying to roleplay, which sounds nice but really just turns places like Goldshire into a madhouse of overwrought teenage drama and Elf-on-Gnome cybersex. You might imagine a scene where players get together and enact a dramatic scene that borrows from the Warcraft mythos, but what you end up with is an asylum where each and every inmate is authoring their own unique and horribly demented reality.

Well I have an issue with getting really into a game for a few months then just finding it boring.
If you have to force yourself to stick with a game, you're doing it wrong.

If you're bored of a game, why are you playing it?
