So I'm trying to trick my cat into thinking I'm deaf....

It always meows and stuff when it's hungry and it really annoys me, so I'm trying to ignore it's meowing and make it think I'm deaf so it will quit. So what I wanna know is, do you think it will work?

Am I weird for trying this?

Have you done anything similar? Did it work?

EDIT: I'm not negligent, it gets fed 3 times a day, everyday, it's just impatient, fat and greedy.

By feeding it when it meows you are essentially teaching it that the more it meows the more likely it is that it will be fed. Try wasalp's idea and spray it with water. Otherwise, just try to make sure that when you feed it, it isn't meowing.

However, picking it up and cuddling it (especially if the cat doesn't particularly like being picked up or cuddled) tends to make it think more carefully about making noise. Word of warning, however, like all cat-training techniques, it will never be 100% effective.

Secondly, I can't imagine it working out very well. While I'm not sure if this will make your cat stop meowing eventually, it's just going to become more persistent.

If it can't get your attention through noise, it's going to start jumping on your lap to ask for food, or keep running in between your legs as you're trying to carry an armful of xbox acessories through your home. Speaking from experience with my cat, just pick the easier option, and feed it when it's hungry.

Oh. Well then, just put it outside whenever it keeps meowing, and hopefully that might discourage it a little.

Yeah, I came up with this because I had to prepare some dinner and every time I went in the kitchen "MEOW MEOW MEOW" so I ignored it and on my way out I petted it a little bit just to annoy it

I'm thinking the cat will just go to further measures to get yon attention, but not because it thinks you're deaf, rather, because it freaking wants food/your attention.

It'll be a mix of "mew"'s, fur, and claws.

You can feed cats with attention too. Just reach down for a quick pet to confuse and annoy your feline companion any time it asks for food.

Haha, awesome. Always fun to annoy the angry cats. Another thing you could try is putting the food dish somewhere in your house that you rarely go. Maybe if you don't walk by it's dish very often it won't make any noise. Careful, though... If you don't feed it on time it might take a more violent approach... My cat has learned to open doors, so there is no hiding from her...
