Quite often cats will move on to a household who will feed it on demand. Beware loosing your cat...

But it could work!

Most. Win. Title. Ever.

Also, I have to deal with the same thing. So, my only suggestion is just to spray water on him.

Why not just feed it?
It's not time to feed it and it's already overweight
Attach cat food in front of his face so he has to chase it around. When he's the right weight feed him!

You have to be very careful with cats. You must let them see that you are more poweful than them or they will try to murder you in your sleep.
I lost a whole platoon to cats in 'Nam...god, the hissing...

My brothers cat is like that, I give her a long cuddle and she stops for a while, then bothers others while i'm not around. So just do something they dislike, without resorting to violence/screaming.
It seems that we have different methods, when I cat meows at me I tie it to a post and punch it while screaming "I AM IN CONTROL!" Repeatedly.
Only issue is Peta is camped out on my lawn now. Next time the send someone to my door though, it's their turn on the post.

Haha this thread got me thinking about my own feline companion. He doesn't bother me for food, he knows when it's feeding time, but as far as affection goes it picks the worst possible times, and meowing is the least of it.

He tends to lounge around on my bed alot during the day, happily sleeping away the hours. When it's my turn to sleep however, he decides he needs some fuss. He doesn't meow, he doesn't bite or scratch, he headbuts and divebombs. If he can get to where my hands are, he dives under them, forcing them out the way. If I still don't give him fuss he pushes his face into mine, or climbs onto my shoulders/head. Very cute you may be thinking, but when I have to wake up in 4 hours it gets really annoying.

Ignoring cats doesn't work, at least not untill they tried every trick at their disposal, if it's doing something annoying, simply take it out of the room you're in and shut the door.

OP, I love you for that title.

As for the cat, do what someone else said and spray it in the face. For best results, get a plastic refillable skooshy container, like what you buy window cleaner in. It worked wonders for my dog, until it started coming up to me just to get sprayed in the face.

It works on ferrets and small children too. :)

hmm... when ever my cat meows at me i just pucker my face and make a high pitched squeaking noise.
my cat promptly looks at me like she thinks i am a freak and walks away. works every time.

All cats are jerks... o_O
Instead of going through with this elaborate scheme lock it in a room away from you and sound proof it. =o

it probably meows because it wants your attention, your desire to ignore it tells me that you probably try to do so anyway and the cat picks up on this and doesnt like it, after all, would you? its a responcibility of owning a cat to give it that attention, maybe not all the time but occasionally at least. if you want my advice, just pick up your cat every now and then, and stroke it and generally let it know that you care about it, it'll probaly still nag you for attention anyway, but meh, it has to meet you half-way. (sorry for sounding pretentious btw)

dear god! i dont give a crap how this is gonna sound but some of the people on this thread disgust me, i dont even care if theyre joking, cats are intellegent, sentient living things, they dont deserve to be treated like crap for wanting to socialise!

This will not work. Your cat meows because it wants an impulse (hunger) satisfied. It is like a human child. The child will cry whenever it wants something because that is its only form of communication, and more importantly, the child has no concept of "others". This means the child is not doing it to get a reaction out of you, but just to fulfill its own needs. This does not develop in children until after age 2, and never develops in cats. So basically, whenever your cat wants something, it will meow, and continue until it gets it, no matter what you do.

It always meows and stuff when it's hungry and it really annoys me, so I'm trying to ignore it's meowing and make it think I'm deaf so it will quit. So what I wanna know is, do you think it will work?

Am I weird for trying this?

Have you done anything similar? Did it work?

EDIT: I'm not negligent, it gets fed 3 times a day, everyday, it's just impatient, fat and greedy.
Don't ignore it that's harsh, just keep feeding it at specific times with specific food/amounts of food and it will get the message.

And as for not liking meowing, think about the plethora of annoying noises humans make, then imagine them 2-3 times as loud due to cats' more sensitive hearing. How do you think the cat feels lol.
