So I've finally bought in to the wonder that is Minecraft and have been reading the wiki for advice on crafting.

I've made a rudimentary log cabin, crafted a workbench and a door. My question is, now what?

I think I need some way of creating a few weapons for those pesky zombies that force me back inside my house at night...
Ello ello, I also bought Minecraft like a week ago but I have a few pointers that might help.

Come dawn, bring a workbench, wood, the best picks you can make (Wood/Stone probably being the easiest to make early on) and whatever coal you have.. you probably also want to make a bow or a sword.

Now instead of just going to the nearest rock and hammer away, scout around and see if you can find a natural cave, a natural cave will give you a LOT of benefits depending on the size, for example you save a lot of pointles digging and with the help of a few torches you can probably find coal/iron/gold/diamonds without even having to dig aimlessly for them.

Of course even if it IS day creatures can still spawn inside caves, this is a good thing! Its a good thing because quite often you'll hear a monster or maybe running water but wont be able to find it in your cave, which means that theres another cave nearby, so get to where the sound(s) are the loudest and dig a bit.

Open [a href="http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting"] this[/a] page, and keep it open on another screen (if you have one, otherwise just minimise it or print it). You'll be able to make anything at all that way!

Also, be careful not to become obsessive about neatness and uniformity in your mines.

I thought you'd be interested to know that I originally read the title of this thread as 'So, I've bought Microsoft, now what?'.

That confused me.

OT: My advice is you play and play until you've built a castle and you're wearing armour made of gold and wielding a diamond sword. Nobody messes with a guy who has a diamond sword.

You said you had problems with monsters forcing you back into your house, right? Just do what I do and build a better house/castle.

Well, I dug a gigantic mine system, then filled it up with TNT. The ensuing explosion parted the sea.

I started my fourth or fift world yesterday. This time I made myself a bigh house around my spawn point. So whenever I die I allways spawn inside my house =)

I also made a huuge swimming pool with a chandeleer hanging over it... and a diving board of course =)

Basically look at other peoples work and let the inspiration carry you onward !

PS:
That scary ghost story freaked me out... now I probably will see something that looks like Herobrine in all those dark caves i explore. As if cave exploring wasn't scary enough :s

Thanks! That helped alot.

Fucking creepers took out half of my first house though.

At least I haven't burned anything down yet!

Haha, I wish...

And how do you go about building something in the sky?

learn to use red stone dust, i've been toying with AND gates and i have made a door which is hidden behind a painting (you can walk through paintings, place em then destroy the blocks behind em) and two hidden levers that are burried around my house and once both are activated it lets you in.

Minecraft is the big thing. I've been on the fence as to buy it or not. Mulitplayer games are best with a group I've found. Are there any Escapist crews?
there is an escapist server and it is awesome. just look for its usergroup

also for my place i built a trap that basically involves having to swim against the current to get into my underwater house. anything that doesnt swim against the current (anything but me) ends up in a pit exposed to sunlight killing all zombies and skeletons. but my place has blown up twice now thanks to creepers
