Reminds me of what happened to my friend his account got hacked ? most likely to do the old gear sell ? but in the end the guy took hardly anything but completed all his quests for him and lv up his professions - we like to think that the hacker logged in and then felt sorry for him.
That happened to my cousin XD..he came online and was missing his chest peice, had like 10,000 gold, and maxed herbalism and mining.

Are you sure that it was a pre-paid game time? Absolutely sure?

I would hate to think that these crooks would saddle you with having to clean up a mess if they used a stolen credit card (people who give these jokers their CC to buy gold with, are you fucking stupid or something?)

Helping people who have been keylogged/phished is one of the better things Blizzard does. Of course if they had made the decision 4 years ago to ban buyers then they might have saved themselves a fortune..but that is hindsight.
Yeah I went and checked my payment history right when I got the account back, it was a world of warcraft 30 prepaid days card from Gamestop.
Great =D

Well in that case, thanks for giving me a chuckle this morning! I am sure some gold selling scum is having a bit of a froth at how unfair it is that he lost his pre-paid card.
Among other things, he also seemed to have had about an extra 6000 gold..and like an additional 2000 gold worth of pets and trade goods. they use your friggin characters as trade bots. Oh, I just went and checked the payment history again, and it actually was listed as "30 day Gamecard (Online Store), 15 bucks. I must have been so tired I misread it. Think its worth contacting blizzard to report that? As much as I love the free month, I would rather pay for it myself then get banned for taking his XD.
Since Blizzard have already done a restoration on you they would have that you have been phished/keylogged on record. Now if that game card was bought as an online code it is very possible that it was done using a stolen CC and that the owner, on spotting the unauthorised charge, will issue a chargeback which means that your game access will be terminated. In theory Blizzard should just ask that you put your own payment on the account and continue as normal. Worst case could be that they issue a demand for the sum that was charged back and won't let you in unless you pay it.

If I was in your place I would phone Billing and talk to someone (I hear that the lines are busy in North American WOW customer services so what you have to do is spam re-dial to get in to the queue and then wait. You can use Skype if you don't have a freephone number where you are or are using a cellphone). Get an idea of what could happen if it was a stolen CC and give yourself peace of mind.

Now I am retired from WoW and played in the EU. But the US customer services are often good for a chuckle and I still go there sometimes (seeing people froth about being banned when they been censured for spamming porn and racism is very funny) and you pick these things up...

Recently a friend of mine got hacked... She discovered this when she tried to log on her char, but the pass was changed... She recovered it and logged in and found her char in the middle of a grindfest... Nothing lost... And a good bit of materials richer.

That's a good idea, Ile call em tomorrow to make sure, its 5Am right now so I cant exactly do anything :p. This whole situation does have me really nervous, I'm sweeping my computer for keyloggers right now because I have no idea how this happened in the first place.

If you can't find it, they will be back =( (dirty thieving bastards that they are). The best phish on earth is the one that you didn't realise that you fell for, had any emails from "Blizzard" recently?

The general rule is to run Malwarebytes with the WoW game client open and gibberish typed in to the log-in details.

Nah, we care. This is friggin awesome!

Not the hacking part, but rather the getting even with a hacker.

Sweet story and thanks for sharing.

The exact same thing happened to me about a month and a half ago. 'Unfortunately' I flagged it with Blizzard and by the time I'd installed WoW, they'd removed the prepaid card. No free game time for me.

Glad you managed to sort it out though ;>

This also happened to me. I got my WoW account hacked and when I realized it I immediately ran a virus scan and changed the password of my e-mail and WoW account. I realized then that the asshole who hacked my account added a gamecard. So, not only did I get to play 2 months for free I also got EVERYTHING the guy mined including all of the gold he made from selling stuff on the Auction House. Think good kind of overkill.

Funny you mention that :p. Ive been getting Emails from "Blizzard" for about 3 months. mostly saying things related to my account being banned and needing all my info to regain it, bastards work hard XD..but considering all the spam I guess I had been targetted for a while.

the biggest pain in the ass I had to go through was that Im also a guild leader, so he looted every square inch of my guild bank, I just spent he past hour and a half taking all the restored items out of my mailbox and stickin em back in there, along with the 4000G he stole from it. gonna be fun explaining to everyone why I withdrew 4 full tabs worth of stuff then put it all back two hours later XD.

On a lighter note, the hacker was actually very nice apparently XD..the gear that he couldn't vendor, he just stuck it in my characters banks. I was wondering why blizzard only returned half my stuff til I opened the bank and saw the pile of sweet, sweet epics XD..

Edit: And before anyone asks, no I did not reply to any of those Emails :p. I have a long history with blizzard related to character restorations (I had a problem with deleting them constantly when I was younger) so I know what the real thing looks like by this point.

Nah. Not targeted. My Mum gets those emails all the time and doesn't have a WoW account and doesn't really know what WoW is. They just keep on spamming them out...
