So its the Academy awards tonight and Like every year I will be watching it all night, cos I fucking Love the Academy Awards. I love every film award ceremony, because I like the feeling of "Oh my god I really hope X is gonna win!". So who does the Escapist want to win?

Personally I want:
Bridges to Win Actor
Mirren to win Actress (Even though she wont)
Tucci to win supporting actor
Gyllenhaal to win Supporting actress
Basterds for cinematography (Even though it won't)
Tarentino to win Director (Even though he... probably won't)
Avatar to win Score
and District 9 should win Best film! (Even though it won't...)

As much as I liked Avatar I still don't think it deserves best film...

As movieBob said, because of the new voting system a dark horse (Inglorious Basterds) could win.

District 9 should get recognized with an best film award. I would love to see that happen. I think it's a long shot though.

Avatar should only win best special-effects and nothing more. But, since it made more money than God it will most likely win every damned category it is in.

Also, District 9 sucks ass.

Would me saying that you do not know a good movie when it slaps you in the face the same as me saying that your opinion is invalid?

The Escapist and Cracked [http://www.cracked.com/article_18460_5-reasons-oscars-matter-even-less-than-you-thought.html] should just get married already. The Circle of Ineptitude, people. The Oscars are a popularity contest simply dripping with politics.
Harry and Tonto? Really?
Maybe this new system will make a difference in the Best Picture category. I don't have a lot of hope.

There are absolutely no movies among the nominies that I feel the need to root for.

Ponyo isn't even nominated for best animated feature, for fuck's sake.

District 9 was a overhyped piece of shit stuffed with a anti-racism message with the subtetly of a fucking Tomahawk missile. And Avatar was Dancing with the Wolves meets the War on Terror. I seriously was expecting that some random protesters would show up screaming NO BLOOD FOR UNOBTANIUM. Fuck both of those movies, i don't give two shits if a movie has a message, but come ON. Showing your personal beliefs down my throat is not my idea of entertainement.

Well, please take no offense, but what kind of movie do you like? Most movies out there have an underlying message. Its called the main idea, its part of writing. Comedies are the only format of movie that isn't required to have one, some still do.

I don't mind if a movie has a subtle message. Thats fine. But when the message is beaten over my head with the force of a thousand exploding suns, i start to take offense. I feel like the movie is insulting me, like the movie is saying GET IT? IT'S WRONG TO DO THIS! DO YOU GET IT? HERE LET ME SHOW YOU AGAIN. Of course it's not ok to kill people for oil and racism is wrong, i knew that before i went to see the movies. But Cameron/whothefuckhewas think that im such an idiot that i don't understand that.
These are just my opinions, and i didn't mean to offend anyone.

Hmmm... I myself am not too interested in the Oscars. Hell, I didn't even know it was tonight until you said so! :D
But on the categories you said... hmmm...
Well, perhaps District 9 should win best film... it was pretty good...
Dammit... if only I knew any names, or watched more films...
[small]*Stan Lee to win best Cameo :p*[/small]
Heh, if any names come to mind, I will edit this post...

I'm inclined to mostly agree with you. Though I don't feel that District 9 sucked ass, its just not worthy of reward or anything. But I agree 100% on Avatar.

Personally, I'll have to agree with some others too. The Oscars are so biased and in my not so humble opinion, most the people that list these movies as good or bad, don't know good when it slaps them in the face. I keep hearing bad reviews on Cop Out but that movie was hysterical. Granted it does nothing new, but it was still funny stuff.

The oscars are useless to judge a good movie. If you go by popular opinion and amount of money earned then Avatar will destroy most others, since it is ranked higher on sites like imdb and rotten tomatoes, but there is no chance of the people at the oscars caring. If you want an oscar, do a prestige picture, sci-fi epics don't even appear on their radar half the time. I'd be happy if Inglorious, Avatar, District 9, Precious or 'Up' won Best picture, as I utterly hated Hurt Locker, as it was the least believable war movie I've ever seen. Heck, Inglorious and Avatar were better 'war' movies.

Couldn't care less. The Oscars are very biased in my opinion, so it doesn't really matter who they vote in. Film festivals like Cannes or the Berlin International Film Festival are typically more trustworthy, at least for me. Oscars tend to sway to a certain type of film, rather than award it based on actual quality.
T'is the truth, people! The only people who win Oscars win for 2 reasons:

1. Everyone has hailed them as super-mega-awesome without contest (I.E. Heath Ledger)
or
2. Being as super-mega-preachy as possible. (I.E. Benjamin Button)

That's all you need.
