Let's see... She's beaten both Final Fantasy X and XII with all the side quests and hunts completed with over 150 hours worth of time. She's also enjoyed any Zelda game that we get as well as World of Warcraft. So I'd say any fantasy game in general would satisfy her regardless of the company that makes it, with the exception of platformers and RTS games.

Well, it depends.
I would not automatically rule out any M-rated games, your mom is a lot older than you, remember? ;-)
But I would probably go for Portal as well.
It has a really gentle learning curve, but can still be challenging for those not accustomed to games, and its really good fun.
Its really casualfriendly, whithout beeing casual in the facebook gaming sense, and why not get her into more complex and involving games whilst your at it?

Knowing my mom, something constructive would probably suit her best. Plus she's an interior decorator, so something like The Sims would be right up her alley. Beyond that, likely focus on things that are casual and puzzly. Nothing that involves rushed decisions or shooting dudes.

If she wants to shoot dudes we can work in to that gradually.

OT: I would reccomend Mario. Can't go wrong with Mario.
Yeh, alot of Moms out there like the Plumber ;)
Sorry, couldn't resist.

A good Farmville alternative for the facebooking moms out there would be Viva Pinata - Gardening and minigames all included!

My Mum does play games and has her own DS. She loves Professor Layton, The Sims, Popcap games and Facebook games and i can probably say she's played more than me in the last couple of months (damn college)

My mom was the person that got me into gaming as a child. She's a huge Mario fan - I don't think anyone of any gender, age, or gaming experience can dislike a good Mario game. Same with Tetris.

If I had to recommend a new game to her, I'd probably suggest a Zelda game. Some of them have been fairly similar to the Mario format and I think she could make the switch pretty well if she had the desire.

I recommended to my mum, plants Vs Zombies. She loved it. The humor, the simplistic graphics, the ease of which it was to play. Actually, pretty much every Pop Cap game after that she loved =3

Dead Space 2

They said my mom would hate it
My Mom wouldn't hate it. She would be indifferent to it. I mean she HAS watched all the Saw movies so I doubt the senseless gore would bother her to much.

OT: Portal. Its a fun game and easy to grasp.

My mum has been playing games for years. James Bond: From Russia With Love was great, despite her not really remembering the controls every time. Once it ended up with her throwing my controller at my wardrobe in frustration.

She was playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit recently. She was crap at it, and wouldn't leave my room even when I wanted to go to bed!
