"Thanks." Taryn said to Leland. She stood up carefully and took a few tentative steps with her hand braced against the nearby wall. She tensed but was met with no pain whatsoever. 'Wow...nicely done.' And she could think clearly again. With a brief nod Taryn began walking toward the front of the ship. She sat down in the pilot seat and began the pre-flight diagnostic to prepare the ship for launch. Taryn tapped her fingers against the main console as she waited for several small bars to fill.

Levi's statement echoed in her head as she waited. "I can handle Victor. I just don't want you in the crossfire" One bar filled and turned green. The faster they got to Mordtoten's the faster everyone could get switched back. But then of course...Levi would still have to deal with him. Taryn sighed. Even weakened Victor was still a threat. 'Why did he come back now? she wondered. Another bar filled and flashed green.

Levi followed Taryn into the cockpit of the Merriweather and took his seat. She had already begun the pre-flight diagnostics, so there was really nothing for him to do but watch the bars fill and turn green. Come on, he thought. The sooner the better. It was only a matter of time before someone lost control of their powers, or even worse, Victor returned. "Mordtoten better know what he's doing..." he said aloud.

Katie and Rowan quickly took seats in the Merriweather, awaiting the ship's starting-up in the same manner as Taryn and Levi. Due to the theory that Katie needed to keep her concentration on someone so as to avoid a barrage of thoughts, she tried concentrating on Garrus/Tyrell from a distance, eyes closed. No strange or untoward messages flashed into her mind, so she figured it worked just as well as staring at him. "So. Renton's safe. I assume we give the Union a much-needed beating once we get back into our own bodies?" she asked.

'Wah? Wh- oh wait Katie, phew kinda scared me there for a moment. Well there are only two members here now and they might be gone in the hour or so it takes to head to Kent, get our bodies back, then head back. Plus today was traumatizing enough for everyone so I don't think we'll be going to their base and trying to kick their asses today or tonight. Perhaps some time but it depends on what people want to do...' Garrus thought back solemnly after taking a seat and strapping himself in, adding, 'I personally just want to get my body back, go home, and take a nap.'

"Get us to Mordtoten's pronto you two. The sooner the better," Garrus stated to Levi/Taryn.

"Yeah, what he said!" Brialex added as he sat down and strapped in. "I want to be able to see my toes while standing again!"

God, I just want this to be over with. I don't even know who's thoughts are mine anymore. And I still need that god damn beer...

"Yeah, you're probably right. Today has been a bit draining for all of us," Katie answered before switching her focus to Rowan to inform him of the situation. It took a little while because she was still getting used to the fact that it wasn't as easy as turning her head to look at the other person. "Looks like we won't be doing any fighting after all."

Still a bit spooked by the fact that a voice in his head wasn't his own, Rowan paused before responding. "I thought as much. No sense in going after an opponent when you're not at your best. Unless, of course, you're in a video game and you can easily heal in the middle of a fight," was his answering comment. Strangely enough, it was accompanied by an image; a Nintendo DS in the middle of a three-on-three fight. Evidently Rowan was remembering looking down at the game. "Oops. Sorry, um, I forgot you don't play games like the rest of us nerds," Rowan added.

Katie ignored the comment, having never really seen the appeal in video games, and continued to wait for the Merriweather to start up.

When the last of the bars filled and flashed green, Levi immediately engaged the engines. Shortly after, the Merriweather took off from the Promenade as fast as the engines would safely allow. After a very rocky, but brief, trip, the Merriweather came to rest on the street in front of Mordtoten's house. As her boarding ramp descended, Levi stood from his seat. "Okay, let's get this over with," he said.

"Yes! Almost there everyone," Garrus-Tyrell told them as he hopped out of the Merriweather and headed inside to make sure Mordtoten had everything ready (being sure to cross the front yard carefully in case he had his security set up). He walked through the still busted down front door and headed down to the lab, wondering why the lab was so dark until he saw Mordtoten sitting at his desk playing a spooky-looking game with headphones on.

A quick walk over, and pat on the shoulder (along with some loud cursing) later and Garrus was back out in the yard telling everyone that they were set to go.

Levi sighed with relief. "Okay, we can't delay any longer," he said to the group and headed inside Mordtoten's house and down the stairs into the basement. He entered total darkness, the only illumination coming from a computer on the desk. It looked like Mordtoten had been playing some kind of game, which was now paused. Levi recognized it as that one game infamous for being utterly frightening. "Geez...can't you turn on a light in here?" he asked.

"Oh believe me I will now that your little leader decided to scare the crap out of me when I was playing a game. Total immersion and I was running from Mr. Face when all of a sudden BAM!" Mordtoten told Levi-Taryn as he flicked the lights on after walking down the stairs back into the lab.

"Horrible experience! God I don't think I'll be playing that for a few hours after that scare! And where the hell is everyone else? Don't they want their original bodies back? I mean, yeah it might take a few tries but at least no one will get knocked out like before. Fixed that up myself before I started playing my game," Mordtoten said as he walked over to his desk and put his labcoat on.

"Knowing him, the circuit breaker is set up to a bomb because he needed to run a toaster." Richard said as he walked in.

"Let's just get our damn bodies back, no offense to Katie, but I like my own body more. I know what it does and I know how it works." Lillian replied.

Taryn followed Levi down to the basement of Mordtoten's house. She glanced curiously at the computer before walking over to where Levi was standing. She half-listened to Mordtoten's response to Levi's question. 'Take a few tries? That doesn't sound encouraging...' Taryn thought. She hoped that by standing near to where she wanted to 'end up' that things would get sorted quickly. Taryn looked toward the stairs and waited for the rest of the group to gather.

Katie ignored Lillian's comment. She was entitled to her opinion, more so considering the fact that she was unused to the body in which her mind was situated. She could say the same thing about Leland's body. While it was that of the man with whom she shared a bed most nights, she much preferred her own body. For one thing, he had far too much hair on his head. Could probably use a cut. Mental Note: get Leland to cut his hair a lot shorter.

[hr]

Having no desire to destroy Mordtoten's lab and kill everyone just by asking about the mind-swapping device, Rowan grabbed a pen and paper, passing a note to the scientist after a minute.
Code:
You sure about this? What will happen if we switch and stay conscious while it takes place? I figure there are a lot of unknowns that could go wrong. Heck, I flip one switch and I'm stuck in a body I can't even use properly.
That last bit reminded him that he needed to apologise yet again for starting the whole shebang in the first place. Perhaps there would be some way to make it up to the rest of the Society.

Take a few tries, huh? I really don't like the sound of that.

Levi didn't like the idea of being conscious to feel himself being ripped out of one body and forced into another either. "Well, Richard, we really don't have much of a choice here. As much as I don't want to say it, Mordtoten is pretty much our only hope," he said with a sigh. He looked at the gigantic juicer-looking machine that had started this problem in the first place. Levi still didn't have any clue how it managed to scramble their bodies around, and he really didn't want to know at this point. "How certain are you that this thing will work?" he asked Mordtoten.

Brialex had a little trouble unstrapping from the seat but eventually he made his way down to the basement that had started this whole mess. He arrived right at the part where people were expressing their doubts over whether or not the machine would be able to reverse what had been done to them.

"Oh it'll work, it better work. I don't care if we have to play Musical Bodies the whole night with the fucking machine, I'm getting back to myself before I leave here, that's for sure."

"Absolutely positive that it will work; one hundred percent! I even redid the figures a few times to make sure it'd work perfectly," Mordtoten replied before being handed a note by Rowan and taking a moment to read it before giving a big sigh.

"Alright since a few of you are concerned: when I said that you won't black out I mean that you simply won't be out for an hour. You'll black out for the few seconds that you switch, and hopefully you wind up in the correct body. If not, then those that are in their correct bodies should move out of the way (probably behind where I'll be standing) while we redo it until we get the exact match. And why did you guys bring a baby here? We certainly don't want him mixed up in all of this body-switching," Mordtoten explained before going over to Tommy-Lillian and taking the confused Renton, patting his back when he started to whimper.

"There, there. I'll give you back to your parents once they're in their correct bodies. Anyways, everyone ready to go? Just stand in front of the machine and I'll flip it on," Mordtoten told them as he walked over to the machine and ducked behind a desk he had moved next to it, ready to flip the switch.

Hmmph. Not a fan of the constant 'maybes' and 'probably's. But it's not like we have a choice in the matter. Rowan gave a non-committal shrug and moved to stand in front of the mind-switcher. Katie quickly did the same, careful not to stand too close to anyone or anything in case Leland's body banged his head when he fell.

Jason-Garrus made his way into the basement, Marrissa precariously following behind him.

"Who lives in this dump?" She asked, slightly disappointed in the condition of the house.

"This is Professor Mortoten's house. He's the bastard that had us switch bodies." The older brother replied bluntly, leading them both into the dimly lit cellar. Once down there, the two noticed that the body-switching transformation was almost underway. Jason signaled for Marrissa to stand near Mortoten while he got into position. She nodded in compliance before walking over towards the scientist, taking the baby from his grasp, noticing that he was more comfortable in her arms.

"Figure I should hold little Renty...you're gonna need all the free hands you're gonna get. I'm pretty sure I won't be the only one at your neck if you find some way to make this situation any worse." She told him grimly, glaring at him threateningly.

"That's what you always say Mordtoten." Richard said as both he and Lillian made their way to their rightful positions.

"Just remember that if anything happens to my kid I'll kill you." Lillian said with a smile as she waited.

"I'll add 'If I end up in the body of a cockroach' to the list of things that will get you killed as well," Brialex said as he stood with the others in front of the machine. "I don't know how but I'll find a way to make it happen."
