The Doctor opened the door and walked inside when he was allowed in, putting his supplies on the bed before taking a seat next to Alex to examine her hand. After some poking and a quick look over he set a few broken bones back into place before bandaging it up tightly. He mentioned that she should come by the infirmary later so that he can put a cast on it before gathering his supplies together and back heading out.

Inside his head as he walked back down the hall he was laughing at the fact that one of the so-called 'healers' that he hated couldn't even heal themselves! And such a minor thing compared to what usually had to be treated. This time the Doctor started to cackle as he opened the door to the infirmary, placing his stuff down as he started to get things ready for whenever Alex would come in for a cast.

"Hmm... I don't know," Katie answered quietly. "Alex will probably want Richard more than anyone." But then, Richard wasn't around and she needed someone to comfort her. And Jason had a point. Katie was the one person to whom Alex opened up besides Eric and Richard. While Katie debated this - it took a while - the doc finished up and left Alex alone.

With him out of the way, Katie figured now would be as good a time as any, and knocked lightly on Alex's door before poking her head round it. "Hey," she said softly, shooting a glance at the bandaged hand before looking back up at Alex. "Um... do you want to talk? I, uh... I couldn't help but notice you were angry, so... I eavesdropped on you and Tommy talking. I'm sorry, for that and... well, you know." She didn't want to say it in case Alex flew off the handle again.

"So...this is it then?"

Brian looked over at Kayla, a bit surprised at the question. It was a pretty smooth ride over, the X6 handling well, luckily it was an automatic. When Brian picked up his date, she seemed properly impressed by the ride that Garrus had loaned out. It might have all been relative; Kayla's accommodations weren't spectacular. She cleaned up pretty enough for sure. That red cocktail dress looked really nice, her hair was laying down pretty well, it looked like things should be pretty good. After the short drive further downtown, when Brian stopped at his first destination, he was all set to show her a good time. However, this reaction after pulling up to Le Nordique, the best place to get a poutine in all of Nova City, was not what he was going for.

"What? Well no not all, but this is the first stop. These guys got some great food. Reminds me of home, you know?" he explained. "Shall we go in, so I can prove it?"

Kayla rolled her eyes and followed Brian into the little chip shack. What have I gotten into?

Alex held her newly bandaged hand and looked at Katie. "No really it's fine, I don't mind honestly. "I could use someone right now. In fact I think you could help me allot right now." Alex said sighing. She felt shame wash over her like a title wave and it seemed as if she deserved it more then anything.

"I'm starting to think like my father, if there's something wrong with someone fix it with genetic engineering. That was the saying he'd use to say at meetings before I took over. Now it's if someone needs help we can help as best we can." Alex sighed. "But it seems for my self it hasn't changed from my father's vision." she added.

Taryn didn't have time to be chilled after the removal of her shirt. She was far too busy mapping the contours of Levi's chest by hand. His skin was almost fever-hot to the touch. And smooth. Taryn's hands wandered for a bit then skimmed along Levi's side. Levi's own wandering abruptly found a spot that made Taryn jerk then rock backwards. Of all the times to be ticklish...

Though she intended to settle back into her original spot Taryn found herself leaning further into Levi. The already small distance became nonexistent. One denium-clad leg slid against another. Everything seemed to intensify. In the intermission of a kiss Taryn's arm curled under Levi's own then reached upwards. She traced a series of lines from his shoulder blades down to the curve of his lower back. Each change in his movement caused subtle shifts of muscle. It was fascinating. It was distracting.

Their proximity, the sensation of skin-on-skin contact, was intoxicating. It brought up deep, powerful feelings of intimacy and affection, which in turn were the fuel that drove their heartfelt kisses and led their hands to explore and caress. Unconsciously, Levi's own wandering hands found their way up the smooth skin of Taryn's back, stopping as they brushed against a rather obtrusive piece of black fabric. After a couple of failed attempts, his deft hands undid the garment and slid its straps off her shoulders. Taryn followed up what Levi started and leaned back somewhat, shrugging the unwanted apparel off before allowing it to drop to the floor beside the bed.

Once again, his hands began to wander, tracing the shape of her body along the sides before brushing against a material significantly rougher than Taryn's delicate skin. Denim. Another undesired obstacle. Following along the top of her jeans, Levi's fingertips came to meet just above the single metallic button that held them closed. Carefully, he undid the button and made a move to pull down the zipper.

The sound of the zipper was louder than Levi had anticipated, and it was enough to make him hesitate. It was then that he realized what he was about to do. His hand hovered uncertainly over Taryn's now-open jeans, which gave a tantalizing peek as to what lay beneath. He knew that he wanted to go through with this. But what about Taryn? The time finally felt...right, but this was still something unfamiliar to both of them. Reluctantly separating their lips, Levi opened his eyes and gazed into Taryn's, silently asking the question he was reluctant to vocalize.

"Alex... Don't think like that. Your father was a terrible man, you shouldn't follow in his footsteps," Katie said as she took a seat next to Alex and put her arm around the older woman's shoulders to try and comfort her. "I remember the one time I met him, the horrible things he said and did, to you and Richard alike, and I know that you are better than that. Um... yeah. That's not a decision I would like to make..." she trailed off, not wanting to reiterate what she was thinking. Alex choosing between her powers and fertility... Katie didn't like choices like those.

"And hey, you want to know something? You're not the only one in the room who can't get pregnant right now," she added with a small smile of sympathy, thinking of the enchantment Leland had placed on her just before their first time together. All of a sudden, a new idea popped into her head: if Leland could prevent it with his magic, perhaps he could do the opposite. Katie immediately followed it up by reminding herself that Leland and Alex didn't like each other, even though years had passed since that incident on the alien planet.

Richard soon arrived at the Promenade and immediately walked inside since he knew Alex would be there. He didn't exactly pay much attention as he entered the lounge, his thoughts centered around Alex. Richard only paid attention to who was in the room as he asked.

"So where is Alex now?" He didn't particularly want to talk to Alex right now for fear of her reaction but it was necessary.

Alex sighed. "Leland caused that and it can be removed, me well it can't be fixed with magic." Alex sighed getting up. "I think I need some tea, hell maybe some booze." Alex said getting up and walked out of her room.

She walked to the lounge and looked up seeing Richard but just looked down and walked to the kitchen pulling some water from the air then heated it up. She pulled some lose leaf green tea from the cabinet and placed a small scoop in a defuser ball plunging it in the water still not wanting to look at her husband. "I'm sorry Richard. I really am." That was hard enough for her to say but she knew it was worth saying.

Eric was just about done with the remain files at his apartment and sighed. "This does not look good at all." Eric said getting up putting his jacket back on, closing his laptop and walked out. He pulled out the keys for his bike and hopped on starting it up and speed off to the Promenade.

"Alex and Rowan won't like this at all." Eric said to him self. He wasn't sure how Alex would be feeling at this point but knew she needed help and Rowan needed to see what he had found.

Richard walked over to Alex before lifting up her head to look at him.

"Alex, it's alright, I understand. While it hurt I understand why you said them and I also understand you were emotional at the time. I'm not angry, it is important to you and so there is a lot at stake for you, but I don't want you to risk yourself in order to achieve what you want. I can live without us having a child, I can't live without you though."

Alex rested her hand on Richard's chest and started crying again wrapping her arms around him. She didn't know what to say or do but she just wanted to be near Richard. She wrapped her arms around him even tighter. "I don't know what to do Richard. I want to have a child and I don't know what to do." Alex said.

Alex shook hard and yelped her hand hurting as she wrapped it tightly around Richard.

"Ummm..." Katie mused to herself as she left Alex's room, not wanting to intrude on her privacy by being in there without her. Jason was nowhere to be seen; evidently he had moved on once Alex had left. The spoken thoughts of the latter intrigued Katie; Alex evidently believed magic wasn't the answer, most likely as a result of her dislike of Leland.

Resolving to either talk to her boyfriend - at which point she would have to convince him to let go of his own animosity towards Alex - or find another solution to Alex's problem, she wandered back into the kitchen, deposited her dishes and took her potion book into the lounge, taking a seat next to Leland. She shot a sideways glance at Alex and Richard; evidently the former was more distraught than she had let on.

[hr]

Rowan was sorely tempted to give up on waiting for Alex and Eric by this point, and go back to his room to try to catch up on his sleep. Of course, Alex was here, but she was in no mood to talk about his problems. Eric would have to do. And he wasn't in the Promenade, so Rowan was out of luck. Frustrated, tired and generally unhappy, he ignored everyone else in the lounge as he walked through to the museum, took a few random turns - ignoring the multitudinous souvenirs and relics on display - and eventually heading back through the lounge again.

"We'll figure something out Alex, but we'll do it safely. I'm not about to lose you on the off chance you could bear a child. I'd rather have you and not have a child than have you die and lose everything important at once." Richard replied as he held her.

Taryn mumbled a quiet protest as Levi pulled back. A protest that was cut off when she met his gaze. He wasn't putting a halt to things. His hands hadn't moved, they were just maddeningly stilled. So why had he...Oh. Oh. A slow smile began to form on Taryn's face. It broadened to a grin when she realized what Levi was after. Despite obvious evidence and the undercurrent of heat that existed, he wanted reassurance. Which Taryn was more than happy to give. This was not a direction she'd imagined them going in when she first entered Levi's room. Far from it in fact. But this was not something Taryn wanted to stop. She was...ready for this. She wanted this. She wanted him.

Leaning forward Taryn kissed Levi gently then again with more force. The rush of feeling the action brought on diminished somewhat as she eased back to look at him. There were words...words she wanted to say but they seemed to disappear before she could properly voice them. So instead, keeping her gaze steady Taryn moved her hand down Levi's arm to wrap her fingers around his wrist. She smiled softly before removing her hand.

Taryn's silent reassurance was more than enough for Levi. A smile of his own began to appear as he held his gaze. He drifted forward, slowly closing the short gap between them. Coming to a stop just before their lips made contact, his smile widened. Words could not begin to describe the powerful feelings welling up within him now. The only thing that Levi could be sure of was that he was in a state of nearly overwhelming bliss. With Taryn, he was happy beyond what he considered to be possible. She was his everything, and he wanted her to know that.

The intense emotions within rushed foward, manifesting itself in three heartfelt words. "I love you," Levi whispered softly before clearing what little space remained between them, kissing Taryn with a renewed passion. His eyes closed slowly as he pressed her as close as physically possible. The kisses that followed only increased in intensity, each one building off the previous one's energy. Sparks began to fly as Levi and Taryn surrendered themselves completely to the moment, the loose energy a physical manifestation of their passionate love.

[hr]

Over a period of time, the loose sparks of electricity began to mix with a suddenly unstable magnetic field and combined to form a minor electromagnetic pulse, causing the lights in Levi's room to flicker erratically. A second, more powerful pulse radiated outwards, disrupting electronics in the nearby rooms and causing more lights to flicker. After a while, a third electromagnetic pulse engulfed the entirety of the Promenade, causing widespread disruptions to all electronic items within the building. All thoughout the Society's headquarters, lights randomly fluctuated for a few seconds before stabilizing and returning to normal.

"What the heck..." Katie mused, looking up from her reading as she noticed the lights in the kitchen flash on and off momentarily before returning to their usual brightness. "Ah... maybe Taryn should check that out," she added, returning to her book. She flipped a page over... and there it was. The solution to Alex's problem.

Entitled
Code:
[i]An Elixir to Promote Growth, Fertility and Healthy Bodily Function[/i]
, its ingredients seemed easy enough to obtain. Garlic, finely diced strawberries and a few ingredients in Latin which she couldn't decipher, the page also described the effects the potion had on a human body. "Intended to aid those who suffer from bodily flaws... this could be perfect." Thrilled by her discovery, Katie got up and walked over to Alex and Richard.

"Um... I think I may have a solution to your problem, if you want to hear it," she said quietly.

As the lights flickered and the electronics died momentarily throughout the Promenade, Rowan clapped his hands to his head. Pain, sudden, torrential and indescribable, lanced through him, shivers running down his spine and ending themselves in his hands and feet as a result. He dropped to his knees and fell the floor as the agony overwhelmed him, and he quickly curled into the foetal position, shivering, shaking and weakly crying out occasionally for help from his spot in the doorway of the museum.

On the other side of Nova City...

"Sir. Subject seven went offline briefly, but it's back. The resistance application worked perfectly, although he stopped moving."

"Good, but it's compromised. He knows. He'll come for me soon... Send the trusted subjects to me. I'll be in my lab."

Almost everybody looked up at the ceiling when the lights started to flicker on and off; the construction workers quickly becoming extremely confused and running around trying to figure out why that had happened.

Garrus sighed as he got up to reset the clocks on all the appliances in the kitchen, about to ask Ethan to show him the exact time on his visor before the cyborg started to burst into what could be described as pained and tearful beeps. As he opened his mouth to ask what was wrong Ethan stood up from his chair and ran off with a sad smiley on his visor being barely visible behind his hands that were covering his face, exiting through the lounge and slamming the door behind him.

"What's his problem?" Garrus asked his brother with confusion.
"Oh he said something about going to his room. Then he said something about a 'full metal jacket'. He listed off some numbers before that, probably the size of the jacket. Can't see how that'd be comfortable unless it was like aluminum foil metal, but maybe that's just his own thing. I dunno," Leland replied, placing his own bowl and Ethan's discarded one into the sink before sitting back down and looking over into the busy lounge.
"Ah okay...well then back to this," Garrus muttered, adjusting the oven clock to the correct time before moving onto the coffee machine.

Jason gave a satisfied look on his face as the movie he watched came to it's thrilling, yet slightly ambiguous conclusion.

"So, was he still in the dream or not??" Jason muttered, completely baffled. In the mindscape, Erebus sighed annoyingly.

"We've seen this three times already, and you still don't see it? Obviously he-" Erebus began before the flickering electricity effected Jason's entertainment system, causing the colossal television to shut down. Within a few minutes, the TV came back on, and the flashing loading bar rose, indicating that it had to warm up.

"That was strange. Anyway, I wonder if they any "making of" featurettes on this. I wanna see how the made the hotel hallway fight scene." He said as he looked at the Blu-Ray packaging of the movie. Looking back up at the TV, he noticed that it has almost finished loading, muttering a 'oh, cool' as it reached 99%. Then the lights went out again.

"Really? Again with this?" Jason protested, lips curling inward in indifference.

"Chillax Jay, it'll come back on."

"Yeah..." Jason replied as the TV reached 99% again. Then the lights flickered again, this time longer than the other two surges. This made Jason very cross.

"...Fuck it. I'll just go find something else to do." He decided through gritted teeth as he grabbed his iPod and left his room for the museum. Before he could get into the museum, a keeled over Rowan caught his eye. Quickly he trotted over to him, helping him to his feet as he attempted to get him towards the Infirmary.

"Rowan, you okay? What happened?" He began as he slung one of the shapeshifter's arms over is shoulder.

Rowan didn't answer Jason at first. His vision was blurred and it hurt to try and focus. "I, uh... I don't know. First the lights flickered, then my head started hurting, and then... ahh, it's still there. I should lie down for a while... maybe," he added as the pain began to lessen. "Hold up. Idea. Shifting heals injuries," was all he managed to say before he took his arm from Jason's shoulder, leaned up against the wall and shifted into his own form. There was a slight point to his ears where there hadn't been previously.

As soon as the change was complete, Rowan's aches vanished, but his head still stung a fair bit. "I'm mostly alright, but I should probably get some Tylenol or something," he said in a more coherent voice. "What the heck was that? I have no idea what just happened."

Alex was about to open her mouth to respond to Katie but blinked seeing the lights flicker. "Odd anyway I don't know what there is you could try but go ahead and lets see what you have for us." Alex said still holding on to Richard.

----------------------------------

Eric arrived at the Promenade after the lights flickered and walked in the front door. "God I hope Alex isn't going to kill me." Eric said and blinked as he walked into the lounge seeing Rowan have some traces of pain on his face. "Rowen are you ok?" he asked.
