"Hmmm." Taryn gave a quiet and contented sigh as she settled herself against Levi's side. The soft sheet that was draped across her shoulders slid down a bit at the shift in position. But Taryn paid the dark cloth no heed. Instead she focused on the rhythm of Levi's breathing. For a good ten seconds she was still. Breathing evenly, Taryn let herself relax. Then she shifted again. In a slow, almost lazy motion Taryn trailed her fingers up Levi's side and then skipped them forward across Levi's bare chest. Her hand stopped at its usual spot, setting down flat against his still-heated skin. Taryn grinned. For no particular reason. Or rather, too many reasons to pick just one. The grin turned into a quiet laugh.

"Yeah... yeah, I did. Thanks," Rowan said quietly between breaths as he got up and brushed himself off, wincing when he moved his left arm. Quickly shifting into himself to deal with his injuries, he turned his attention to the Chameleon fighting Alex and Eric. That abomination would crush her given enough time, and Eric wasn't helping very much.

Looking around frantically for something - anything - to get the Chameleon to let go of Alex, Rowan spotted something that could work: a heavy beaker with some kind of bubbling liquid inside it. He grabbed it, ignoring the mild heat coming off of the glass, and smashed it over the Chameleon's head. It promptly screamed, let go of Alex and clutched at its face, smoke rising from under its fingers as it drove the tiny shards of glass deeper into its skin. Evidently the liquid had been some kind of acid. But Rowan had no time for such musings as he rushed at the Chameleon, attempting to tackle it in the hopes of getting it away from his friends. Unprepared for the assault, the Chameleon fell backwards, landing hard on the floor with Rowan standing over it.

In that split second of time in which everything pauses and a man can think clearly in the heat of combat, Rowan thought over his next actions. He never fought to kill, but evidently Richard had done so when he took out the first one. 'One should only kill if someone is attempting to do the same to you. Never harm someone who is just doing their job.' That was the way Rowan thought when it came to violence, but it was necessary this time. The Chameleon intended to kill him, and the rest of the Society members present. It was merely an extension of Cadizki's will. The scientist wanted Rowan dead: the final conclusion of a failed experiment. And Rowan couldn't let that happen.

Time sped up to normal levels, and Rowan acted on his thoughts. He plunged his glass weapon down hard into the chest of the Chameleon, and felt something give under his attack. He drove the broken glass in again and again, not giving the creature time to repair itself by shapeshifting, and eventually sliced its throat open with the ruined beaker once he was sure the Chameleon was dead. Hands shaking slightly, he threw the improvised weapon aside and turned to Cadizki, who was still holding his bizarre device.

"Drop whatever that thing is, Cadizki, you've lost. By my authority as a member of the Society of Justice, you're under arrest for attempted murder," he ordered, his voice surprisingly stable given the fact that he had killed something that was once human.

"I think not, Mr. Ward," Cadizki shot back as he stepped forward to stand a few feet from Rowan, device raised. "If I go down, you're going with me." With that he pulled the trigger built into the weapon. Its needle shot forward, catching Rowan in the chest through his shirt, and the tank of liquid began to drain itself, pumping into Rowan's body. The shapeshifter dropped to his knees, shocked, stunned and choking, before collapsing in a heap on the floor.

The small tank drained itself dry within a few seconds, and Cadizki retracted the needle, throwing the device aside. "Now it's over, failed subject," he stated before turning to the other Society members with hands held high and a triumphant look in his eyes.

Alex grabbed him and bashed him head onto the closest wall not minding the pain from her broken bones. "Luck for me I don't have to follow the law to the letter you son of a *****." Alex said her voice low and filled with rage. Alex snapped back to her days in Snake Ally wanting to kill Cadiziki for his crime.

"I'm not so nice outside of business and you just fucked with the wrong person." Alex yelled some.

Eric sighed not sure what to do. "Alex.." he said.

"Shut up Eric." Alex said tears running down her cheek. She was more then ready to tear him apart as she started to beat him more ice coated on her fist as his head pressed to the wall. She forced him to face her as she wrapped her hands around his neck squeezing tightly and smirked watching his face turn blue. "How does it feel Cadiziki to have an experiment killing you?" Alex said cooing softly in his ear moving a hand between his legs using ice to rip off things he'd would sourly miss then quickly iced over the wound.

Cadizki screamed as Alex laid into him, before vomiting explosively and passing out when she performed her last action. Frostbite immediately settled into his injury as he fell to the floor; it didn't bleed out, however, as the ice prevented this.

Rowan, however, began to change drastically as he lay on the floor near the dead Chameleon. His arms and legs spasmed wildly, flailing around as his eyes flew open and he threw up a small amount of blood. Then his form began to change, flashing through different appearances within seconds of each other. African-American, Eurasian, Caucasian, Asian, male, female, young, old... Rowan assumed many combinations of these as he writhed on the floor in pain and more blood came out of his mouth.

He was having some sort of reaction to the chemical Cadizki injected into him, but he couldn't control himself; his mind was elsewhere. Dazed, he only felt some of the changes being enacted on his body. The bad taste in his mouth vanished and resurfaced, and something red was on the floor nearby... Rowan felt like he was in no position to help himself.

Alex was about to kill Cadizki when she looked over at Rowan. "Oh god Rowan, he's still alive." Eric put the small tank in the machine over there. It should tell us what was in there and with luck more then that." Alex said wishing she had her healing water with her. "Fuck Rowan hold on." she said.

Eric nodded quickly and ran to the machine and dad as Alex said. "Looks like this is a compound he made. I'll hack into his computer and see what I can find. Maybe this can be undone." Eric said starting to work on the computer.

"THAT'S IT! I'M DONE! I'M GETTING OUT OF HERE!" The screams were heard from the mouth of the woman angrily storming away from the downtown movie theater. Kayla stood on the side of the street and stuck her arm out as far as it would allow in the efforts to try and hail down a taxi.

Brian came out of the theater after her, although not at a particularly fast pace. "What? What's wrong? Aren't you having a good time?"

"No...no I'm having a terrible time!" Kayla replied. "No wait, I had a terrible time, I'm ending it right now. This date is over!" She resumed her sentry-like stance on the curb.

"Well, what did I do wrong?"

"Try everything Brian. Try everything. First you take me to that bogus shack for dinner,"

"They have the best poutine. I didn't want you to have to eat Burger King poutine, that stuff sucks."

"Then, you decide to take me ice skating, when I've never skated before in my life!

"I thought you did pretty good, you only fell down 7 times."

"You didn't help me up!"

"Well, how would you have learned if you don't do it yourself?"

"And now this? Your idea of a romantic movie is a reshowing of Slap Shot?!?"

"It is! It's a classic tale of a city and their hockey team." A cab pulled in beside Kayla.

"Don't talk to me again Brian. You text me again, I'm calling the cops, OK? Good bye." With that, she jumped into the cab and it sped off into the night.

Brian kicked at the ground. "Darn, I guess I'm worse off with women then I thought." He moved back to where the BMW was parked and set out on the long ride back to the Promenade.

Levi reached over Taryn's arm, resting his hand on her cheek. A soft smile formed as he idly stroked her smooth skin. After a minute or so of blissful silence, Levi leaned forward and gently pressed his lips to Taryn's, with the slightest of pressure. The kiss was brief, but when he pulled away, his smile grew wider. Brushing her cheek with the back of his hand, Levi sighed contently. "Have I ever told you that you complete me?" he asked quietly. "Because you do".

Taryn smiled shyly at Levi's statement. His words triggered a flash of memory. As much as she wanted to focus solely on him, Taryn's thoughts drifted to find why the words were familiar. 'Oh, right.' It was an old movie scene. One partially remembered. It was a silly thing to remember now but it was one of those phrases.'You had me at hello' Taryn finished Levi's unwitting quote silently. Looking into his eyes Taryn realized those words might well be true. She smiled again, the expression brought on by a mixture of triumph and fondness. She completed him, he'd said. Parts of a whole. Taryn gazed at Levi and found that she liked being his missing piece. "I love you." she said softly. Simple words spoken honestly. And with just a hint of fatigue. Taryn shifted her position slightly but kept her focus on Levi.

When Levi said that Taryn completed him, he meant it. With what was once a part of himself violently torn away, she was his sole source of comfort, of solace. Taryn was his port in the storm, his tether to sanity. Levi was forever grateful to her for being there for him, especially now. It would be some time before he fully recovered from the mental trauma the battle in his mind caused. The nightmares and flashbacks were bound to continue.

Despite the fears that still lingered somewhere within him, Levi was comforted immensely by the fact that Taryn would be with him every step of the way. As he gazed into the eyes of the woman laying at his side, he wanted to tell Taryn how much she really meant to him. How important her love was to him. No words came. With a grin, he settled for four words that came the closest to expressing his feelings.

"I love you too".

2 Weeks Later...

October 13th, 10:09 AM - Kitchen

"I can't even read what you wrote," Garrus told his brother as he gave up trying to understand what he had piped on a piece of wax paper with frosting, "It's all scrunched together and it starts to curve down..."
"Well sorry for being left handed and not inheriting perfect writing! I'd like to see you do better," Leland replied with annoyance as he handed the piping bag over for Garrus to try.

"I will. Let's see...'Hap-py Bir-th-day Tom-my'," Garrus recited as he piped it down on the paper, taking a step back with a smile before frowning when he realized his was barely any better, "Hmm...perhaps we should just get someone else to put it on the cake."
"That's probably our best bet...speaking of which we need to figure out what color to make the frosting," Leland added as he looked over at the container of white buttercream frosting on the table surrounded by numerous small bottles of food coloring.
"Still can't believe we don't know his favorite color..." Garrus muttered as he watched Renton try to grab the piping bag from his high-chair, reaching over and moving it a bit further away.

"Look I know he's my best friend but I don't remember small things like that. I mean, I know my favorite color...and yours and mom's but it's pretty obvious to guess those since neither of you ever not wear them. Everyone else I forget. Do you know anyone's favorite color in the group?" Leland asked as he examined the various food colors available to them.
"Not really...never though it was that important, ya know? Anyways we'll just ask him later once we're done decorating and such," Garrus replied with a shrug, looking into the undecorated lounge.

"On that note I need to ask him what he wants for his birthday," Leland muttered, leaning down and examining the red bottle of coloring.
"Really? You haven't asked him before? You can't even think of something for him?" Garrus chuckled before Leland remarked that Garrus was only going to make the cake and dinner for Tommy and that would be his present, shutting him up completely.

"Alright, so this is the second-to-last one... 'Add one heap of crushed brightleaf, stir seven times counter-clockwise over the fire,'" Katie said to herself as she worked in the gardens, quoting from her potion book as she carried out the instruction. The plant in question was an interesting one; she had had to get Tommy to order it specially from New Eldorado. The fertility potion she was making for Alex was almost finished, and would be completed this morning. Katie had been working on it almost non-stop for the past fortnight, only pausing for meals, sleep and the occasional extra-curricular activity with Leland. She had started work on Alex's potion at the Lodge, and taken it with her to the Promenade when it couldn't be left alone and she had to be there with everyone else.

"Three... four... five... six... seven. 'Should turn the colour of human blood.' Let's see..." Katie mused, peering at her concoction. Sure enough, it was the exact colour described. She was amazed at herself for having either the beginner's luck or previously unknown skill to create a complex potion on the first try. "Last line... 'Extinguish the flame, cover and allow to naturally cool down to room temperature.' Shouldn't be too hard." Katie did as the book said, taking the bucket of water she kept on hand and pouring it over the burning wood to kill the flames.

"That's as good as done, I believe. Just got to leave it for a few hours and it'll be ready for Alex," Katie said to herself with a wide smile. Electing to leave it alone for the rest of the day - she had informed the other Society members about the work she was doing and how it was not to be disturbed by anyone when she wasn't there to supervise it - she headed for the kitchen and lounge to find someone to talk to. A small part of her brain recalled that it was Tommy's birthday; her gift was long since wrapped and stored in one of Katie's footlockers until the time came to present it.

[hr]

Rowan stirred and woke, his eyes flickering open before he threw back the bedsheets and dashed for the bathroom mirror. Since Cadizki had injected him with some kind of strange chemical, his inherent abilities had been different. Alex had told him when he first woke up that a full week had passed since the fight with the scientist, and he had been unconscious the entire time. Occasionally as someone watched him while he slept, he had shifted into different forms, sometimes within seconds of each other. He had also been sleeping in later than usual, and occasionally waking up with a mild headache. A scan performed by the Society doctor showed that the growth in his brain had actually expanded a little.

But shifting as fast as Alex had described was impossible. Rowan knew that he could only shift once every ten minutes. He'd tried to change form within the flux stage and he'd just gone back to his original appearance. Looking at himself in the bathroom mirror, Rowan mentally noted that he must have had some weird dreams the night before... he looked like Hugh Jackman, complete with the Wolverine-ish hair. Shaking his head at himself, Rowan shifted into the body of a woman about his own age, wearing casual clothing and waist-length blonde hair that was loosely tied back.

"Hmm..." Rowan mused, looking over his latest form, before closing his eyes and trying to shift again. When he looked at himself again, he had the same appearance, but the hair was a little shorter, there was a distinct point to his ears and he was slightly better endowed. The shifting felt odd this time around; the usual noises he produced, the ones that sounded like bones shifting or breaking, had been replaced by something that sounded like rustling leaves or a faint breeze blowing in through a window. He liked this change; another gift from Cadizki before his death.

Happy with his choice of appearance, and still a little amazed by the fact that he could shift any time he wanted, Rowan headed out of his room and made his way to the kitchen to find something to eat. "Morning, guys," he said to Garrus and Leland in a light, feminine voice as he put some bread on to toast and filled a glass of water for himself.

Tyson woke up. He checked the time. "Shit. I've been asleep for 24 hours." Tyson got out of bed. He'd been reading through all the notes trying to piece together everything hoping that he'd find something that could give him some answers. After thirteen days he'd gotten nowhere closer to finding the answers and only succeeded in maintaining an erratic sleeping and eating cycle and barely talking to anyone else in the building.

Whatever happened to him was still a mystery and it just annoyed him more. The only thing that was possibly related was something he already knew, that there were mutations in his temporal lobe, occipital lobe, broca's area, thalamus, and the whole hindbrain section of his brain. Besides that he had been told that they were basically harmless and the notes confirmed that that wasn't a complete lie.

Tyson got out of bed and looked into mirror in his bathroom, he looked like shit. I look like shit. Tyson took a shower and shaved. Tyson was about to grab a sheer to shave off his head again but he stopped. It had been a while since he last did it and he actually had a short length of hair on his head. He kind of liked it and instead he grabbed a comb. Tyson pulled the comb and straightened his hair forward but didn't like the look. Next he pulled it all back and paused for a second. That could work. Tyson put the comb back and got dressed in an olive limited edition shirt that had Pennywise the Clown depicted on the back and a pair of black jeans.

Tyson checked his floor safe to make sure it was locked and left his room hearing a magnetic click from the door as it shut as he took off for the kitchen. Upon arriving he found a strange looking woman in the room with Garrus and Leland. Seriously if Rowan shows up to breakfast as a woman again I'm just going to assume he wanted a sex change but the shape shifting powers were just a better excuse for why he's now a female. Tyson walked over and saw the failed attempts to write with icing. "I'm hoping that this is your attempts to write that by hand and Leland hasn't tried to use magic yet." Tyson said half joking, half seriously.

Jason tossed feverishly in his bed, experiencing a unique dream of a very peculiar fashion.

"Ugh...mmm...Oh no...Katie's teen pregnant..." He mumbled sleepily before turning over again.

"No Leland...mmmmn...a bazooka has no effect on babies..." He continued, growling slightly before springing into consciousness. Alone in his dim room, Jason looked around awkwardly before rubbing his forehead.

"That was weird." Erebus piped up.

"Tell me about it." Jason responded in agreement before slipping out of bed, making his way towards the kitchen, mumbling a "i'll get dressed later" as he closed the door behind him.

"Hey since when did Legolas join the team? I didn't know you guys needed an archer," Leland said to Garrus after he turned to say hello to transformed-Rowan's greeting.
"That's because we don't. It's just Rowan expressing his feminine side or something...I hope. If it isn't then we've just been letting random people have breakfast with us the past few days," Garrus replied, waving as Tyson entered and hearing his comment, "It's both of our horrible attempts at piping out a simple couple of words. And I don't think magic would help make it any better."

"It might, but I don't know a spell for that...I try to keep it to only the ones that I'll use on a somewhat regular basis," Leland commented, calling for the sleeping Talbot in the lounge to come and give it a try.
"What!? No we're not letting your pet anywhere near the cake or frosting," Garrus exclaimed, "Besides it's not like it can write."
"How wrong you are, Talbot actually has magnificent penmanship! He also has quite a way with words," Leland explained after scoffing at his brother.
"Still not coming near it. Took me forever to get the cake and frosting just right," Garrus muttered.

"Actually, it was more expressing the joys of being able to get up, walk around, and shapeshift whenever I want instead of having to wait," Rowan answered Garrus and Leland. "Besides, I like this form... I figure she's pretty good-looking. If I were able to clone myself I'd do me in a heartbeat." He laughed a little at his comment, then promptly turned into Leland and back again, just because he could.

"Ugh, this is a weird conversation and I don't even know where it's at," Garrus said with a confused look on his face as he looked at Rowan.
"Well now the conversation is currently at doing your own clone I believe. Personally it'd probably just be a little to weird for me to do that, but if their was a female version of me I'd totally do it. Her," Leland responded, Garrus just shaking his head and plugging his ears as he walked out to go put decorations up.

"Anyways...do either of you have good penmanship? Not sure how much it'll actually help since piping is very different than writing with a pen," Leland asked Tyson and Rowan as he let Renton out of the high-chair to go follow his dad around the lounge.

Now Rowan was just creeping Tyson out prompting a similar feeling to avoid the topic brought forth. "Both of you are messed in the head and should be wearing straight jackets inside padded rooms." Tyson said as he grabbed the piping bag. "To be honest my penmanship is nothing to speak of, but I've used something like this before."

Tyson twisted the top till it was nearly tight and started to write out the desired message on a sheet of wax paper for practice. The writing itself was of an equal width and for the most part an equal height and the spelling was legible. However the writing was far from perfect and maintained a brutish style to the lettering. "Better than either of yours but I don't think I'm your man. I was better suited when we were using a makeshift one of these when a cocking gun broke for some plastic explosives." Tyson announced in pure honesty. Tyson turned to Rowan and held out the piping bag and asked, "You want a shot?"

"All right, I guess," Rowan answered as he took the piping bag from Tyson and moved around to the waxed-paper sheet to give it a try. He checked the tip first, figuring it would probably be easier with it a little more open than when Tyson had used it, and made his first attempt at an
Code:
H
. As soon as he started the attempt his hand began to shake, producing a noticeably jagged and wonky line that would look terrible on the cake. Rowan immediately set the piping bag down and said, "Ah, that's definitely not my area of expertise. We should probably get someone a little more dextrous... maybe Jason or Lillian could do a better job."

[hr]

Katie walked into the kitchen and lounge at the exact moment Rowan began his attempt at writing an
Code:
H
in icing. A little confused by the unfamiliar woman in the room, but knowing that no-one had brought over any guests the night before, she ignored him and directed her attention to Leland. "Hey," she said quietly before she put her arms around him and lightly kissed him, her tongue playfully brushing against his lip before she pulled back. "Any plans for the day besides celebrating Tommy's birthday?"

Alex woke up next to Richard resting on top of Richard after yet another night of passion. Her black hair resting on her back Richard's arms wrapped around her back. Alex giggled some at his touch and pressed her lips to Richard's sitting up and placing his hands on her hips as she sit on his stomach, the blankets falling off her body. "Good morning Richard." Alex cooed in a sultry voice.

"Hi there." Richard replied before kissing Alex.

"Think we should get up for the day?" He asked half-jokingly as he rolled onto his side taking Alex with him before covering the both of them back up.

"Too cold." He very briefly explained in a groggy voice before kissing Alex again.
