I'm glad to somebody's willing to stand up for Sony around here. I'm been observing all the flak Sony's been getting over this whole hacking situation and think "WTF??? Aren't Sony the victims here? Why are we dumping on them?"
'Cause they were asking for it. Maybe they're victims, but that's largely due to their own stupidity, which has been well documented.
"Asking for it?" How exactly? Because they persecuted Geohotz and that other fucker whom I've never heard of? Give me a break. Regardless of whether or not Sony was right in that regard, hacking the PSN network and inconveniencing thousands of Sony's customers is not exactly the appropriate way to "stick it to Sony." It's immature and childish and only going to ensure that Sony is going even more inclined to persecute hackers in the future. Good job!
No, they'll be less likely. They got owned. Badly. They'll be licking their wounds for a looong time. They were asking for it by having crappy security to start with.

I'm not upset it's taking them so long to get it up, in fact I hope they take as much time as they need to secure their stuff.

What I'm miffed about is how thoroughly they were breached. Everyone's credit card and account info? with all that information it'd be simple to sell that info on almost anybody to anybody who inquires.

Whether or not I've been effected, I still need to comb through all my documents and accounts to double-check and change anything that could be compromised.

I don't feel they deserve all the derision aimed at them, but I do feel they need to take responsibility for their failure to protect their customers

I don't really consider those networks to be on the same scale as PSN.
Never let the facts outweigh your opinion, eh? Good for you ;)

First off, none of those launched in my country, so I have no way of knowing they existed
Oooh! Snap. Same here, but then that's Ireland for me. You should really try using that internet thing. We have it here in Ireland and it lets me look up things like the history of gaming, I think you'd love it! I heard about those Sega networks through it.

and secondly, Sony aren't the only people who store user data on databases.
No way! I demand proof! :D

Pretty much every website does that now. People would ***** and moan about a lack of useability if they didn't.

So basically you're fucked either way.
I don't think you see the difference between (A) a company that has a well thought out network, with up to date server updates that follows industry best practices and keeps their customers data secure, fulfilling their legal obligations and (B) Sony.

Yes Sega didn't connect the world over broadband to hi res graphics with live audio chat at an affordable rate. Their networks' scales were regional, slower, more expensive, using what could even at the time be argued to be somewhat dated technology.

But the is no evidence Sega were ever anything but (A).

But you're right about me being fucked either way. I'm too sexy for this shirt, too sexy for this shirt, so sexy it hurts. I'm on aspirin and barechested as I type this.
