What I love is people who rush to topics like these to wave their Nintendo flags, because Nintendrones see the current market situation as just desserts for Sony for having the audacity to knock Nintendo off of the mountain top with the PS1. I love it when people make blanket statements like. "The Wii is more fun!", "The Wii has a better online system.", The Wii has a larger install base.", "The Wii has cured several types of cancer and will bring us the advent of intergalactic travel." and so forth. The problem with statements like these is that they are half-truths at best and out and out lies at worst.
The Wii isn't all that fun. I mean it's fun for a couple days, but it quickly wears out it's welcome. Of course if you're a 6 year-old pokemon fanatic or an 80 year bowling granny then you're probably running your Wii ragged and haven't turned it off since you purchased it.
Wii Online is awful. Anyone who's played SSBB can tell you this as Nintendo measures the success of SSBB in the number of crashed wi-fi matches. Granted Mario Kart Wii had slightly better online, but it was still no stranger to the mid-race wi-fi crash. At this point I had given up on the Wii so I really don't have any other examples.
Yah, the Wii may have a larger install base. Aiming for people who don't play games seems like a nose-pickingly idiotic idea on paper, but for some reason people who hate gaming keep buying the Wii in droves. Funny thing about the Wii is, that aside from your hardcore Nintendo supporters most Wii owners only have purchased Wii Play and Wii Fit. So what's the point of cashing in thousands of systems when you're not selling any games. Unless you're plan was to point at the NPD numbers and do a little dance because you think it justifies your position when it just tells actual gamers who you kicked in the teeth at E3 that you're doing it wrong.
PS3 is not without it's problems. Yah, it needs more exclusives. And I think that's kind of sad because I was kind of hoping we could get to a point in gaming where Microsoft and Sony would be able to exchange a good portion of their games to each other, but I guess that defeats the point of competition. I'm not an economist, mind you, but I guess I just have a utopian vision where all gamers can play games in harmony without all this silly console bravado, but then all you fanboys would have to find something new to ***** about.
What I love is people who rush to topics like these waving their Sony flags because Sony fans arrogantly believe they know everything about what their competition is thinking. Saying blanket statements like "They think it's just desserts for the PS1!" and "Home is actually good!" and "We don't need backwards compatibility!" and "Blu-Ray is the future!" and "Ports to the PS3 don't suck!" and "Folding @ Home really and seriously will cure cancer through the magical cell processor, you guys!" and so forth. The problem with statements like these is that they are half-truths at best and out and out lies at worst.
I highly doubt every single person, even every single person who likes Nintendo, is thinking about the PS1 at a time like this. Granted we can blame Sony and the PS1 for fostering in the culture of arrogance that dominates gaming today, and led to mass e-peen waving before XBox Live was even a glint in Bill Gates' money-grubbing eye, but no, I doubt people are thinking about the PS1.
Wii Online has never given me a single problem. Perhaps it is because I don't spend my time wangsting about things that got changed from version to version of a game. And since I have played SSBB online without problems, I think we can easily point out that since I must count as a "someone" out of "anyone" that one cannot say a phrase like "Anyone who's played SSBB can tell you this as Nintendo measures the success of SSBB in the number of crashed wi-fi matches"
Number of Crashed Wi-Fi matches for me? Zero. Moving on.
Wii not fun? Oh I guess I must be some kind of goober for playing Metroid Prime 3 and SSBB, and Mario Kart Wii, and Rock Band (friend's Wii since I own a 360 as well), and Metal Slug Anthology. Granted the Wii does not get as much play time as it used to but I still play it, and I still have fun with it. And seeing as how I've been gaming for over 19 years I really don't see how anybody is allowed to tell me
my business on what I play, on what platform I play it on, and if I'm enjoying myself. I own a 360, a Wii, a PS2, and a DS. I enjoy all of them equally. I will not ever be buying a PS3 because of experiences with the company itself and because none of the exclusives interest me enough to justify another $400-$500 purchase.
Sony has tried to corner an HD Market that really doesn't exist yet. Speaking from the perspective of someone who doesn't "get" HD in any sense, why would I want a blu-ray player? Especially when DVDs are still strong? Simple Answer: I wouldn't. I
would like a games console but not only do I have those already, but the PS3 seems to be some sort of movie downloading machine that connects to a bland and uninteresting version of second life, at least that's what the most recent ads might have you think (the first part more than the second)
I could go on and on and talk about how Sony has lied to its own fans about every little thing they couldn't possibly do for the PS3, like get rumble in its controllers. And I could go on and on about how Sony the company has a history of pathological lying and attempted media monopolizing that is known to me personally. But really I just want to get down to brass tacks, and the crux of my counterpoint
You, Mr. Esteemed poster I have quoted, do not think for anybody but yourself. If you are going to attempt to tell me how I should be enjoying my gaming experiences and what platforms I should be buying, then you are doing nothing more than proving the dissenting opinion regarding this stupid chart Sony has come up with. And if you're going to go act like a fanboy while decrying fanboys? Well you just look silly, now don't you.
