Sony is simply taking care of the hard-core gamers. I bought the 80GB PS3 when if first came out and it cost $600+ and you know what? It was effing worth it. Now I'm one of the few in my crowd who has a backward-compatible system and one of the best built. The PS3 has an awesome computer interface and you can upload Linux, Safari and most other Operating Systems onto it and run it as a computer. When I look at value I factor in what you're getting for the price, not just the price like most of you other morons out there. The only problem I have with the PS3 is that it doesn't have KOTOR ... Yet.

Granted we can blame Nintendo and the NES for fostering in the culture of arrogance that dominates gaming today, and led to mass e-peen waving before XBox Live was even a glint in Bill Gates' money-grubbing eye, but no, I doubt people are thinking about the PS1.
there i fixed that for you, fanboys were around for a lot longer than the ps1, and as for arrogance yeah Nintendo owns that too. they were faced with eating a HUGE pile of humble pie starting with the n64 and then the gamecube

what they did in that era of gaming almost bankrupted them and put them out of business, it was the gameboy that kept the afloat.

as for your "testing" with the wii online, that's not really great testing, 1 game does not make a test cause i could easily say i tried one 360 game and it crashed the system, it's totally unrealiable

Also, Jesus Christ look at all the fanboys.

Would you all go back to the IGN forums pls.
Are you trying to say "I'm not a fanboy" (yes you are!)?
You honestly think you can get away with stealing jokes from Yahtzee on the Escapist forums?

This has been a BAAWW moment by Sony. A complimentary rootkit is now being installed on your computer.

*snip* A lot of interesting arguments, but it became a bit unwieldy.

Oh, and also, I have a hard time paying to play online. I really don't feel like I should have to. It's for that reason I don't play MMO's and stuff like that. I won't pay to use a product I already bought so to speak. But again, that's just me. I'm sure Live is great, but I refuse to pay. Each to his own. (At some point I will get a 360 though. There are some games I wanna play.)
Thats how I feel about Live as well. As a college student I'm not made of money and so I'm not willing to pay for live. Why? Well I'm already paying for my freakin' internet service you tart! I don't want to have to pay for gaming online if I already have to pay for my internet. (That seemed very redundant)

Thank you for appreciating my post up there, by the way Mr. Sinatra I've always been a fan of your music. ((Playful joke))

WHEEE! I've read all the posts, I'm SO HELPING! Crap.... Now I forgot what I was gonna rant about, stupid short attention span. I blame school.

Seriously though, I am Helping. Maybe most of you could be too by actually spelling words correctly. I understand typos (Yes, the "rice" issue the PS3 faces made me laugh too), but really, "whit"? WHIT?!?!?!?! W-i-t-h. How about "Mabey", why is that a popular misspelling? Stop proving the media right with your idiotic internet lingo. I am not a grammer nazi, but seriously, it happens too much. Be glad I didn't major in English in college!

Oh yeah, now I remember what I wanted to say! Remember back in the day when Sony (And their fanboys[Not fanbois!]) poked at MS' multiple SKUs? I always find that funny. Plus, I had the fortune of hearing a Sony rep convincing employees and a customer why the 360 was more expensive. He didn't last long when I started talking, shouldn't have been doing that on the sale's floor in front of me. Sony has at multiple points made rookie mistakes, though, I'll admit they failed to make those mistakes as rookies, so maybe they were due? Silly Sony, when will you learn that games and proper targetting trump hardware.

Nintendo seems to have lost something from the Gamecude generation, oh what was it? Something about a seal of something, Quantity? No, they have the quantity down. OH! Quality, the "Nintendo Seal of Quality"! In my day, it was something to be trusted, though in hind-sight, maybe they are the most trustable simply because they no longer have the Seal of Quality on their games, knowing they might not be quality.

My 360 has only RR-ing me once, not had a problem since. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not touting it as a hugly awesome system because it's only failed on me once, I'd sound weird(er?) for that. If you do lose your system from a technical "hicup", it's easy to replace the HDD at least. Oh, it's an expensive HDD, but it's a click away from working. I have a 10GB HDD, do I need bigger? Uh... Wait for it....No. The number of exclusives on the 360 beats the PS3's, and the number of "worth-it" exclusives seems yet higher to me, don't get me wrong, I have no intention of trying to water down this sentance for PS3 lovers. Launch games for both where.... Interesting at best.

Now, I'd like to state I have no fanboy love for any console. I like my Wii because there is a Zelda game on it, and likly will be in the future. I like my 360 because it has quite a few good-great games, and I hate(Not quite dis-like, not nearly loathe) the PS3 because it has been and is too expensive, the games have perpetually been $10 more expensive and I love my PC in ways that should be a crime. Yeah, I'm a PC gamer first and foremost. Did something die? Oh noes! Better replace it. Being a techie too is good. I think it'd be a bad idea for a monopoly to happen in the games industry, especially if good ol' Microsoft was the one in charge. They would kill us all! They would not be helping. No, I'd say they would turn into Monkeys, and I hate monkeys. STOP FLINGING POO AT ME!

Here's the thing about the PS3. Sony wanted to produce a next gen system and they did. It cost more than the other systems, because it offers everything a next gen system should have. Microsoft cut corners and can sell their system for cheaper, but we've also seen how obvious the corners are that were cut. Sure the 360 is good for what it does and it currently has stuff going for it, but Microsoft is going to have to either pump new renditions to the 360 every so often to keep up with the times. Out of the box the PS3 provides everything you will need in the next gen system for till it's time to bring out the next system. I see the PS3 as a slow moving tank that will over time plow through the competition.

For those that don't understand why Sony doesn't consider the WII a competition, I ask why not? The Wii isn't next gen in the same sense that the PS3 and 360 are. The Wii is a whole new beast. Sales are great for the Wii and people swear by them, but where are the games for it? Seriously beyond about ten or so "good" titles what is there that offers any kind of different experience from the other games. I mean they've brought back point and click adventure games for God's sake. Despite the fact that the Wii has outsold both the PS3 AND the 360 neither systems really care in the same way that other publishers don't care that Bible has outsold their bestsellers by a large margin.

Sony needs to drop/improve the Blu-Ray from the PS3. Maybe then they won't have to pile more onto their 3.3 BILLION DOLLAR DEBT [http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/06/sony-loses-33-b.html].

Once they figure out that, OH SHIT! graphics aren't everything, I'll start repairing my respect for them.

I'm going to try not to be a fanboy by saying this, but the PS3 really does not interest me at all. The only Metal Gear Solid game I enjoyed was 3, and I never finished the others, so MGS4 is out. LBP might be fun...but that's really it for me. And one game, maybe more in the future, is not enough of a reason for me to buy a console this expensive.
You seriously don't finbd anything entertaining about a ferret wielding a nuclear weapon?
... Conker?
Seriously, I'm not gonna shell out 600 bucks just to get Rachet and Toaster just so I can play it for like 2 days and get bored of it. Sony hasn't made me happy for a long time, and they probably never will till the next console battle. This is just getting old, PS3 failed, get over it. They just dropped their first "virtual boy" (EDIT: PSP oh shi- )I'm sure they will get back up from it.

But consoles can war all they want but I'm getting sick of this, most games have ceased to be fun or even challenging. Sony can thrust their hardware dong at us all they want, I'd honestly prefer my PS1 and N64 even Snes and Genesis to more than these new consoles because as old as they are, developers knew how to make even the most console throwing hard games into "fun". I have a Wii myself, and I enjoy it but the games I've played are just to easy, and I still prefer the Xbox to Xbox 360. Hell, I'd probably be a PC gamer if my PC wasn't just a glorified typewriter, speaking of which... Why didn't the PS3 put the PC in on that Chart...? because all consoles fail to PC! We have mouse aiming! MWUHA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Bottom line in the UK is that most games are multi format releases across both the 360 and the PS3 with very few exclusives in either camp. The Wii is on its own as a casual machine. So when making my console choice it was simple:
The 360 was cheaper for the hardware, and the games are cheaper and more numerous. Game over Sony.

This thread has become a, no, the perfect example of a "NO U" flame thread. Wow, the Escapist forums have sunk to a new low. And I thought it was immune... oh, how naive I was.

It took you TIME to realize we were no better than the rest?

Everyone is intelligent until it comes to consoles or a genre you don't like, then *boom* eruption of bullshit.
*sigh*
I guess I'm just too optimistic for the interwebz.

I think Sony needs a tissue. The extra expenses they talk about are totally optional. Which is better for the consumer. With Sony you have to buy the complete package. Not everybody wants a blu-ray dvd player. Plus Blu-ray dvds are way to expensive to begin with so thats an extra expense for the ps3. You pay $399.99 plus games 59.99 each plus Blu-ray movies which are 34.99 each. that about alittle over 495 dollars. Now a 360 199.99 plus a game 59.99 plus 99.99 if you wanna get a hard drive to play on live plus live itself and extra 50 bucks comes out to alittle over 410 bucks. The xbox is still about 85 dollars cheaper. Sonys bad at math, I mean I don't care which console is better. I'm not saying the 360 is better then ps3 but I do know its cheaper then the ps3.

You know, all else being equal, the PS3 doesn't provide anywhere near as much value as stick:
http://www.strongmuseum.org/NTHoF/inductees.html

Stick:
Display: free Tru-Life stereo 3D
Power: player generated
Library: free SDK with user friendly rapid prototyping and development development
Controls: intuitive, patent free, and accessible

PS3:
Display: not included
Power: extra cost
Library: not included, SDK priced extravagantly
Controls: requires hands, learning curve
