The ONLY Star Trek worth watching is TNG. TNG has good characters, interesting storylines and the Borg in their truest form. The original series is a laughable piece of Shatnerism but it is not a quality Sci-Fi drama like TNG. Voyager is shit because of the constant strain of irritating main characters (especially that nasal frumpy pusball Janeway) and DS9 is, simply put, boring. Even so, the upcoming film should be good.

Star Wars: Excellent, the best example of an action film for all ages.
Empire: The best one, after New Hope. the first to have the four coolest characters together (Boba Fett, Lando, Han and Chewie)
Jedi: It's enjoyable, and has the best space battle in the Battle of Endor, but you knew the forst time you watch it that there should NEVER be any more SW films made.

The prequels never existed. you've seen them you say? no, you must be mistaken...

SW has a much wider appeal, and I think has impacted the entertainment industry in a much bigger way. All I ask is that they STOP making those CG cartoons. the first Clone Wars cartoons were great, thanks to the lack of dialogue. the new ones don't feel like Star Wars anymore.

Star Wars, for so many reasons. One of the main ones is that it is more fantastical than Star Trek. I enjoy movies, games, books, etc, for the fact that it is an escape. I deal with reality all day. When I'm entertained, I want it to be as unrealistic as possible. I like the idea of the force, and lightsabers mixed with the somewhat old-school philosophies of pure good and evil. I like Star Trek, but prefer Star Wars all the way.

I have mixed opinions on the two great franchises. One thing to consider is that it's hard to put them together because Star Wars is SPACE FANTASY, where Star Trek is SCIENCE FICTION.
Both are science fiction, but Star Trek is written by people who do not know anything about science, whereas Star Wars is written by people who do not care about science.

Star Trek is very silly when it comes to the "science" bit of science fiction.

See, despite how things look on TV in the visuals, Star Trek ships are actually engaging at ranges of hundreds of thousands to millions of miles. It's pointed out that a couple of Photon Torpedos could resolve entire wars fought by lesser species (such as in one episode where the whole TNG crew is under mind control by an alien trying to get them to do just that). A phaser blast is wide enough to hit an entire city block (Kirk knocked people out on this level by setting his ship's phasors to stun... I kid you not).
Actually, this episode is a good example of what I'm talking about. See, when they see the space station they're being tricked into blowing up, they reel off all the technical details of it's defences, including that it's shield output is 4.3 kilojoules.

4.3 kilojoules is about as much energy as you would expend walking up a couple of flights of stairs.

This is a perfect demonstration of the level of "science" in Star Trek's Science Fiction. They know some of the words, but they have no understanding of the concepts.

hate to get nerdy :p. It's been stated in a few sourcebooks that Republic and Imperial cruisers in SW could engage from much further distances. Some guns in SW rated 200 gigatons per shot. But I dunno, Im going to stop before I get in over my head lol.

well as far as ive seen there are more star wars fans here, even though i believe the last star wars game could have been sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better but nope, lets not even bring back the original Vader voice, and as i have said, star trek is only good as an RTS

Star Wars. Though I pretend Episodes 1-3 don't exist.
*Hush* What? Which episodes? I don't know what you're talking about...

Yeah, the original Star Wars is the only Star Wars for me, and I don't like Star Trek.

Star Trek is bloody creepy when you think about it. People look at Star Fleet and go "oh wow, that is cool. I'd love to be in a future like that". They then tend to forget that to be a member of Star Fleet requires you to more or less be the most exceptional person of a generation on your planet. Even Wesley Crusher (as ridiculous as it is, given his level of genius) did not make the cut the first time around.

Outside of the military elite, you'll notice almost everyone runs around in matching jump suits (seen on earth, in hallways on stations, etc...). They work as peasant yeoman farmers (Picard's Brother) or if they don't play ball wind up on a hell cyber-punk dystopia planet (without the 'upsides' of all the fun technology or a few people in corperations doing well) like the one Tasha Yar was from.
Hell, being able to raise your family right there on the Enterprise D seems to be one of the perks of being in Starfleet. (And, yeah, somehow every other species has replicators and antimatter power sources and all that but still have social class and capital and trade, hinting that all these technologies have not solved the problem of scarcity -- which is something you've gotta do to bring the socialist utopia into being. It would be strange if Earth wasn't like that.)

See my Secret Vulcan Overlords joke/theory above. Humanity has basically had its culture and diversity systematically stripped away until it's a society of willing slaves fiercely devoted to the Federation.

I don't think the human colony worlds are cyberpunk dystopias. They're more like weird atavistic throwbacks, each one different. I'd say (half-jokingly, remember) that they're social experiments used to tweak the main society. (More so during the TOS era when the Secret Vulcan Overlords are still fine-tuning the social cocktail. Oh, hey, remember that TOS episode where the Enterprise actually goes back in time not accidentally, but on some kind of mission to mess with the Cold War? How about all those times they stumble upon failed, degenerate parallel Earths complete with their own failed Americas? Did those somehow arise naturally because every planet has to have a "United States of America" on it?)

Why is the Enterprise D full of kindergartens and lecture halls and planetariums anyway? I think it's because they just don't need to try for a better warship. The Federation's got just enough of a technological edge that this giant half-warship/half-cruise-ship is good enough. It's only when the Borg and Dominion come in that we suddenly find tons and tons of advanced warships being cranked out to bust them.

Seriously, Secret Vulcan Overlords. It's the only way their non-culture of a culture makes any sense.

I am sorry but Patrick Stewart could kick Mark Hamills arse, how do i know this? Patrick Stewart has been in more movies and can do voice overs other than Mark Hamill(only does himself and luke skywalker)
That is where you are wrong. Mark Hamil also did the voice for The Joker in Batman the Animated Series (the best Joker ever). That alone makes him better than Stewart (in my opinion)

Anyway, I never liked Star Trek, and have always been a bit of a Star Wars fanboy.
And let's not forget cock-knocker!

I prefer Star Wars to Star Trek quite a bit, though I do admit that Star Trek: The Next Generation was classic. I just like the ideas presented in Star Wars more than Star Trek's. Lightsabers beat phasers in my book, just like the Millennium Falcon beats the Enterprise.

EDIT:

I forgot about that. Another reason why Mark Hamill is the man.

It's only said once in this topic, Stargate is in terms of good show. It's by far in terms of being a science fiction show I've seen, the best. One because of the overwhelming amount of real science that actually goes into the show. The amount of creative work done for it.

Secondly, the whole two series (SG-1 and Atlantis) has had very good writing and alot more continuity. The whole story atleast makes sense. Because the writers know that the audience is a mix of smart and sensitive people who actually care if the viewers can remain.

Star Trek has had alot of problems with the whole, let's use the Deus Ex Machina concept and put it into every episode we can think of. Alot of times you'll just see them create a new concept and blatantly thorw it in as the solution to any problem, which is kind of sad, because Star Trek as an idea for a show can be a very good one. But we don't need to make up new technologies and types of interferences to make a good show. Example, Stargate can do it.

Lastly, looking at Star Wars, it's too short to make a good judgment, they've only made a handful of movies, the only thing I can say, is that the first three "episodes" were shamelessly tried to be knit to the last three. Without much flare for good flow in the series. It would've been better if George Lucas kept it at three movies and never touched the concept of a prequel trilogy. The sense of mystique is ruined by it, because it was never really explained how things came to be in "A New Hope". They just were.

Although i do have critisms for Stargate too but out of the three I can think of that one would be better.

PS. I haven't seen Firefly, watched a few episodes of Battlestar Galactica. but other series, haven't heard of them or seen them.

Well star trek makes my eyes bleed trying to watch it, star wars gave me a nerdgasm and I had to find out everything about the universe
So yea Star Wars all the way. Boba Fett alone could take down the Enterprise.
And even episode 1 was better quality then Star Trek
Btw, I like episode 3 and even episode 2

All this being said, Warhammer 40000>any other SF

I can't stand any Stargate. BSG is my favourite Sci-Fi show, but I missed a lot of season 4 so far.
TNG is a close second.

I prefer the original star wars trilogy, never realy got on with star treck. plus I have seen star wars actors in other things but not star treck( with the exeption of George Takai(spelling?)in heroes as Kaido Nakamura)
whereas Harrison Ford as Indy and Mark Hamill as king Laputa in "Laputa castle in the sky"

This is all really a matter of taste. In a SW vs. ST debate there is too much good and bad in each series to compare them well. Add to that the fact that there has been different phases for each saga throughout the years and you get a whole lot of people who disagree because they haven't fully seen a show in context. It wouldn't be right to judge SW by the prequel trilogy or ST by Enterprise. Something akin to comparing apples to oranges, but both fruit have parts that are rotting.

I will say that I am cautiously optimistic about JJ Abram's new Trek movie though.
