Vora turned her comm back on, and switched it to the captain's channel, never once taking her eyes, or the barrel of her blaster off the fuel techie.

"Sorry to bother you again, ma'am, but I've just discovered why everyone's fuel situation has been so much worse than it should be," she paused to throw another death-glare at the fuel tech... and to read his nametag, "Private Vincent Dawkins here has somehow managed to hide a... good portion of our backup fuel in the empty space in between hangars... behind a supply closet. So, kid, what do you have to say for yourself? Looks like war profiteering at best to me. At worst... I'd say... deliberate sabotage."

"Understood, Lieutenant," said Reah. "Place Private Dawkins under arrest, throw him in the brig. We've been sold out."

The captain stood up from the table. "Well, Mandalorian, it looks like you will earn your pay after all. I suggest the three of you get to your ships, we've got a fight on our hands." Reah linked into the primary comm system, the klaxons still blaring over the alarms. "This is the Captain speaking, all hands to battle stations. I repeat, all hands to battle stations!"

Reah left the three captains as she made her way to the bridge. "Gentlemen, remain in contact with me, I will need your ears to coordinate this task."

"Wok'la, get down to the Hangar bay. I need you to help prep our bomber squadrons. We're in no condition for a straight up fight, but I've got an idea. Lieutenant Duval, get your breaching pod fueled and ready, and tell the rest of the Marine complement to do the same. Dawkins has sold us out to the Empire, and he's been caught stealing fuel. We'll make him regret both of these decisions soon enough."

[hr]

The Endeavor lurched out of the nebula cloud. Most of the fires had been dealt with, but she was still sluggish. True to his word, Wok'la had managed to fix the sublight engines, and they at least had maneuverability. The ventral thrusters were still online, and they would be needed in the fight to come.

It was two against one, a single Nebula versus a pair of Imperial II's. One on one, there wasn't a doubt in Telani's mind that she could take the vessel, but against two, with a damaged ship, they needed a miracle. Or something insane. The Corvettes would be useful, but they weren't going to win the fight on their own. Luckily, Reah had something in mind.

"Understood ma'am," she edged out of the room, never turning away from Dawkins, "Now, just come out of there very slowly, don't make any sudden moves, and I won't have to shoot you." From her tone, it was clear that she was looking for an excuse to fire at him. Though, if it came to that... she'd knock him out first, and drag his body away from the fuel before even trying to put a blaster bolt in him. Fortunately, Dawkins decided to play it safe, and came out of the supply closet with Duval.

"Credi, Ghan!" she shouted, "Get over here!"

Two members of her squad ran to their Lt.'s side and saluted her. She put them at ease and explained the situation very quickly and ordered them to take the traitor to the bridge. They pulled their rifles on Dawkins and rifle-butted him all the way to the brig. They returned about 10 minutes later, by which time, Vora was already in full swing of getting the fuel to everyone.

"Attention all fighters, bombers, and breaching pods," she said, turning her comm to an open channel, "I have found our fuel. A traitor has been stealing our fuel. He has already been arrested and detained. For now though, let's focus on getting the fuel he stole and getting it to our ships. The fuel is currently stuck in an empty space in between hangars 1 and 3, behind a supply closet in hangar 1. We're going to need some help from every sqaudron that's going out to fly today if we're going to siphon the fuel to everyone. So please send at least two qualified members of your squad to help us out. That is all."

With that, Vora clipped her comm back onto her belt and started giving orders to her squad to get some of that fuel into their breaching pod.

"Because we don't know how much fuel we have on hand," she told them, "Only take enough for one round-trip."

"Yes ma'am," private Ffoukes replied, and set about following Vora's orders.

Commander Prax let a long whistle flow out of his lips as he observed the colossal Imperial ships passing through the nebula. "This one ain't gonna be easy."

Glaive Squadron had gotten to the surprise first, and the alarm had already been sounded. Lacking direct orders to engage or withdraw the rest of Wayward formed up behind their commander. Prax led them on a wide berth of the Star Destroyers and brought them around towards the Endeavor. Wayward 7, the juniormost member of the squadron, sounded his protests.

"Sir, we can't let them approach the Endeavor in the state she's in. We need to intercept."

Prax shook his head at the kid's impulsiveness. "Stow that thought, Wayward 7," he ordered. "One squadron isn't gonna stop two daggers. Keep beyond their turbolaser range until somebody tells you otherwise."

As Wayward 6 berated his wingman for his impulsive ideas of "strategy", the rest of the squadron settled into an uncomfortable silence. They kept their range beyond the Star Destroyers, but as their own ship closed in it became obvious they needed a plan of attack. Prax opened the channel back to the bridge of the Endeavor. "Bridge, this is Wayward 1 requesting orders. Permission to engage the enemy, ma'am?"

Gareth was up and out of the room at about the same time as Reah, Ted following close behind. "Okay, I want I5 manning the main turret, G4 on the shields, and Tac in the co-pilot's seat getting the engines revved. You'll take the rest of the ship's weapons."

Ted nodded as he relayed the Captain's commands to the rest of the crew. "Strategy: Effective. Distribution of resources will increase reaction times. Synchronization will commence when the ship launches, by your command."

Gareth nodded as he thought aloud on the way to the hanger. "If the hyperdrive is still busted, then we'll have to win this or scare the Remnant off to survive. Any suggestions as to how far we should have our feet in the fire?"

"Comparative firepower suggests that a defensive posture is optimal. The Lone Wanderer can screen any fighters that make it close to the Endeavor, and can shoot down boarding pods as they close in on the target. However, there we can only cover 38% of the ship's surface at a time, and there is a 49% chance that we will be boarded."

Gareth sighed at the pair neared his ship. "We'll have to take the risk, running now doesn't seem like an option." Soon, both Gareth and the tactical droid arrived in the Wanderer's bridge, with all other crewmembers already at their stations. The pair took their seats, and Gareth initiated the startup sequence. "I guess we should start playing as a team now. Tac, get the Endeavor's captain on the line, see if she wants us anywhere specific."

Once the fuel issue was resolved, and enough fuel was doled out to everyone expected to see combat today (there was even enough for secondary reserves for the fighters and bombers), Vora signaled for her squad to join her.

All right everyone.

"Set, take Credi, Ghan, and Xhar with you, I'm putting them under your command for this one. Obath, I'd like you to watch my back for this one," she called out over to the comm before turning to face the bulk of her squad, "The rest of you, I want you to hold whatever hallway, command center, or broom closet that we manage to breach, and keep our escape route clean. This is a hut-and-run mission. We're going to go in there, do as much damage as we can, bug out, come back here, and help with the defense of the Endeavor. Any questions?"

Reah settled into her command chair, similar to the designs on Mon Calamari vessels. The adjustable armature allowed her an excellent vantage point from which to view the proceedings. "Hold fire, Wayward Leader. Your ships are no match for a ship that size. Trench Run Syndrome will only get you so far, and the Bombers are better suited to it anyways. Watch for any fighter launches. You are clear to engage snubfighters, but stay out of the Destroyers' fields of fire. That goes for you as well, Colonel. Intercept fighter squadrons and cover the Endeavor in case they try a bombing run."

Reah's holodisplay was superimposed over the forward window of the bridge. The two Destroyers were coming in at a classic intercept pattern. They would hold position parallel to each other until the last second, then break off in opposite directions to surround the Endeavor and present their broadsides. To any ship caught in the middle, it was tantamount to suicide. However, it was exactly what Captain Telani wanted.

"Captain Telani to Corvette leaders. Have you ever heard of the Marg Sabl Maneuver [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Marg_Sabl]?"

Jevan's eye twitched. She wasn't serious, was she? It was insane, the tactic was outdated since the Clone Wars.

"It's quite simple, we angle the ship so that our dorsal hull faces away from the majority of the enemy ship's guns. The hull takes the brunt of the damage, while allowing our fighters to swing out in a flanking maneuver to bomb the Star Destroyers while we draw their fire.

"Unfortunately, this tactic rarely works against a savvy commander, and I'm not about to underestimate the Empire. That's why I've modified it to suit our needs. This Nebula Class is far more maneuverable than any other ship its size, and I intend to use that to our advantage. This is the plan:
[hr]

"These two markers are the destroyers. I intend to take the Endeavor through the center, with our hull angled as such:"

"With our dorsal side entirely facing a single Destroyer, we can focus both our port and starboard broadsides onto a single target while they can only bring half their guns to bear on us. If we then reroute all shielding to cover our ventral side, we can absorb the second destroyer's fire long enough to destroy the first. The second destroyer will be too occupied with out hull to notice the breaching pods being deployed alongside our bomber squadrons. With both ships down, we can scuttle them for parts and regroup for repairs.

"Essentially, this is a combination of the Marg Sabl with the Ackbar Slash maneuver. The angling of our ship will provide better protection against the enemy, allowing us to focus down on one Destroyer at a time. I want the Corvettes running interference, screening the Endeavor from their fighters. Get in close, strike hard, strike fast and come around for a second pass after we've hit the first Destroyer. Is the plan understood?"

The message was relayed throughout the destroyer. All ships were to prep for combat. Vora received the information directly from the bridge. The work teams were scrambling to prep the breaching pods for flight. A sense of anticipation had filled the Hangar. After three days of pent up stress, it was almost a relief to have someone shooting at them again.

You didn't have to tell him twice - sometimes, not even once - to prepare for battle. As soon as the alarm sounded, Masan-Ru was on his feet and slid out the door as soon as the lady captain left. He took off in a run, remembering the directions he'd taken to get here in the first place, comlink activated on shipwide for the Dauntless Rex.

"All hands, prepare for combat. I want us prepped for launch as soon as I'm on board and to get going the very second I get there."

His swift motion waited for no one, for nothing. He even kicked one of those floor-cleaner droids out of the way as he haded for the hangar in which his ship was docked and...Niko?! Wait, what? Oh, right. He'd asked the guy to bring the stuff. Fuel cells, the hyperdrive hodge-podge... It was on a cart he'd been pushing with a couple droids.

Niko: As requested. What do we do about the droids?

"Uhhh, let 'em go for now. They can do their thing and we can do ours. Let's go!"

They headed off to the already-powering-up Corvette. The droids looked at each other, nodded heads, and continued on to their ordered destination, which would be the engineering section of the Endeavor, most likely needing directions on the way. Masan-Ru and Niko got onto their ship and it took off into space, the tall captain getting onto the bridge after picking up his equipment where he left it in the office. That was when the commu came in.

Soviet Heavy said:
"Captain Telani to Corvette leaders. Have you ever heard of the Marg Sabl Maneuver?"

Masan-Ru deadpanned. Was she serious about this? They'll see it coming a parsec away. She explained it for the un-savvy, and then pointed out the obvious flaw which nearly everyone would have on their mind. The tall spacer didn't prefer to turn his dorsal away during combat, except as a switch to spread out the return of fire AFTER he's let loose a barrage from all the cannons up there. Droids weren't the best shot in the world, but fire-linked to Niko's console, they had a very nice pattern of converged attack.

Well anyway, this wasn't really Telani's plan. Tactical information appeared on the screen now as she explained that this was...well now! Masan-Ru's eyes lit up at the sight of a REAL plan, involving the Nebula to execute a maneuver not too distant from his own preferred method of attack. Indeed, by moving in close to a perpendicular angle to the attacking Destroyers, they would be able to use much more firepower against them. Good! You've managed to make the pirate grin.

"I want the Corvettes running interference, screening the Endeavor from their fighters. Get in close, strike hard, strike fast and come around for a second pass after we've hit the first Destroyer. Is the plan understood?"

"Yes, indeed, it is. You heard her, men. Prepare to bluff the opposition!"

Comms would close to his laughter as they moved into position with the Endeavor. All the main crew were on the bridge and anxiously awaiting the fight. Kevin was appropriately freaked out, which meant that he would be extra-maneuverable today in his escape routes and swift actions.

"Any qualms against this action, Marcus?"

Marcus: None, O Captain. I'm quite bitter. Murder their faces.

"Alright, Glaives, this is it. Form up by pairs. Prioritize dupes, flash any squints or eyeballs that get in our way. Slave your torpedo targeting to my ship, if we're going to kill these Impstar Deuces, we're going to need to focus our punch."

She flicked off her comm and began whispering a prayer to herself. "Alderaan, today I avenge a few more of your dead." She gripped the stick, closing her eyes. How many of her pilots would she lose today? Two Star Destroyers, if they were carrying a full complement that was twelve squadrons of fighters - six or eight of TIE fighters, four or two of interceptors, and two of bombers. They would overwhelm them with sheer numbers.

"Captain, the Imps have already found us, comm silence isn't doing us any good. I recommend we transmit our coordinates to the Alliance Fleet, we're going to need all the help we can get. And if we can't get the juice out of our transmitters, I bet our mercenary friends can."

The Captain's plan wasn't going to work. An Imperial-II Class Star Destroyer wasn't significantly outclassed by a Nebula-Class, and she wanted to engage them simultaneously with shields on only one side - and one Destroyer angled to attack the unshielded half of the ship? Even if Endeavor were in perfect condition it would be a suicidal act. The Ackbar Slash was a good tactic, but in this situation it wouldn't save them.

Wolk'a heard the warning sirens, and felt the sudden movement of the ship. Wolk'a grabbed his engineering Comm.

"Hold repairs on all non-vital, non-weapon, non-fighter, and non-engine systems," Wolk'a said to his working crew, "All workers move to your fighting stations, prepare to repair hull breeches, fighters, shields and engines. Prepare for boarders, this is not a drill."

Wolk'a helped several engineers out of floor panels, before running to the main gunnery line of the Endeavor, and began to help patch up a broken broadside cannon, keeping an eye on the crews loading the working ones.

"All system teams, report," Wolk'a said into his comm, trying to ignore the fact that fighting in this condition was nearly suicidal, nor pushing worries for his overworked crews out of mind.

"Hull team reporting in."

"Engine team standing by."

"Port broadside team ready."

"Anti-fighter blaster team in position."

"All department report major damages or boarding parties to me," Wolk'a said before switching to the captain's channel, "Requesting troops to be deployed to the main engine rooms. Even a squad of enemy boarders could easily destroy our already ruined propulsion systems. We would be without any ability to retreat or manuvar under our own power."

'The force just works in mysterious ways...' Obath shrugged.
"Listen men, we're covering Lt. Duval, get ready for breach." Bejo sat down, and steeled himself for what was to come.

"Listen men, we're covering Lt. Duval, get ready for breach." Bejo sat down, and steeled himself for what was to come.
"Thank you Obath," Duval flashed a brief smile at him as she strapped herself into her seat as the men started strapping in as well, "I just got an appraisal of the situation from the captain. There might be a target of opportunity on that ship. Exactly who or what it might be is unknown, so we'll have to break into their mainframes to be sure. If we can, we take out the target and as much of their command structure as possible. Also, a warning... there might be Sith on board. We don't know how many, but unless they've suddenly managed to get over their in-fighting, probably one or two at most. So, before we get the order to launch, everyone check your gear and report in."

As soon as she said it, most of the men immediately began checking their weapons and armor before completely strapping themselves into their seats.

"Everyone in?" she checked around, and saw that everyone, including Set and Obath, were now in the breaching pod, upon confirming that, Vora called out to the pilot, "Bring the ramp up, and standby for orders from the captain."

"Lt. Vora Duval to Captain Reah," Duval said after turning her comm to the captain's channel, "The Hull-Crackers are prepped and ready to launch on your orders, ma'am. Be advised, we have enough fuel for a round-trip, but our shields are still pretty weak. Duval out."

There was a loud whir of a burdened processor coming from Ted after hearing of the "Marg Sabl Maneuver". Gareth thought he might have broken something for a moment, before Ted resumed his former posture. "Uh, have you heard of this plan before?"

Ted's eyelights blinked as he plugged his head into his console. "Affirmative."

Gareth was tempted to ask how, but thought better of it and resumed startup. "Well, I guess this is it. Lone Wanderer, taking off!" With a single, jolting motion, the Wanderer lifted itself into the air and flew out of the hangar, taking up a position between the Endeavor and the Imperials.

Sirens wailed people ran in all directions getting prepared for the fight. Jak sat back in his chair and nursed a drink. He longed for the days where he would be right with the troops. But he was far too beat up now for that kind of work now. Hell, he was shooting down offers from the new republic for years, but now he couldn't even get a real job with them now.

They classified him as a merc. A free agent. He had no room for promotion or pay raise. He had little to no say in any matter whatsoever. And he felt like he couldn't really blame them. He had a barely functional metal leg, a missing eye, and the rest of him wasn't in great shape either. He was able to keep some musculature, but he was no where near what he used to be. He felt fragile. Spread far too thin by age and injury. His vision in his "good" eye was fading more quickly than he hoped. Some people age like wine. He aged like milk and he knew it too. Too much field work. Scars covered much of his chest and back. Each one was a memory of better days. Days when he could walk off a stab wound instead of struggling to pull himself out of bed each and every morning.

One would think it would hurt to see people who havent even reached their prime yet for most of his day. But it helped him considerably. They made him feel useful. When he died they would carry on his legacy. He would long outlive his last breath. For every man dies twice. Once when they they release that very last breath. And once again when the last person they knew last speaks their name. That is when they are truely gone. Despite the fact that he was treated like a second class citizen by many of the higher ups even now that he had more working on this ship for quite a while.(But he didn't help his circumstances with his belligerence.). Most every trainee or anyone who merely needed a little bit of practice to get back into combat after an injury liked him. These were the closest thing he had to family.

He never thought he would be in combat again. Then a trainee ran up to him with a message. He accepted it and began to read. The situation was desperate. He was needed. He was still a crack shot at short distances due to extreme muscle memory. He was also still somewhat capable with explosives for the same reason. He would finally leave semi-retirement. Even if it was only for a single combat. This filled him with a vibrance and excitement he hadn't experienced in a long time. He joined with the boarding party.

Commander Ontil led his men above the encroaching daggers. He reckoned they were quite likely within sight of the Imperials, but their effective turbolaser range was pathetic in these conditions. They were in a prime position to move in and cut off any fighters coming out of the Star Destroyers. "Keep your eyes peeled, Wayward. I want your fingers dancing on your triggers. Soon as we spot a TIE, I want you diving down like angels."

He heard his CO giving a complaint to the Endeavor on its choice of tactics. He smiled at the quibble, chuckling to himself. His COs didn't seem to see eye-to-eye very often.

"You've got to relax, Glaive One. Captain knows what she's doing."

"No, ma'am," the pilot replied a moment later after checking the comms and radar, "Doesn't look good yet, but... I doubt its going to get any better unless these sith are gibbering morons."

"Well, stay alert for the go order at any rate," she called back.

"All fighters," announced Reah. "Lock S-Foils in attack position. Fire at will."

Fighters began pouring from the Star Destroyers' launch bays, an entire ship's complement flying in a massive wave against the Republic forces. The swarm of eyeballs, dupes, squints and even a couple brights was an intimidating force on its own. Imperial Pilots were notorious for their fanaticism. What a pilot would often lack in skill, they made up for with suicidal determination. The ones that survived their time in an Eyeball (Tie Fighter) or a Dupe (Bomber) would go onto fly their Squints (Interceptors) and Brights (Avengers), and only became more dangerous. Avenger and Defender pilots were Ace flyers, able to go toe to toe with the Republic's finest. Even the legendary Rogue Squadron would be wary around those madmen.

Devin pulled Glaive 2 into line with Mira's ship, Tandem coordinating their torpedo launchers with Crakemoore's lead fighter. "Glaive 2, standing by. Let's give'em hell!"

Wayward squadron was already moving to target the bomber flights, using their superior speed to double as interceptors, allowing the X-Wing's to focus their heavier payloads on the large targets. The wall of fighters was coming up fast, flashing green laser blasts searing past, barely shaving Devin's shields. The Tie Fighter's swept past, their distinctive wail filling his audio analogue. "Commander, the Endeavor might be able to take one of the ImpStars, but the Captain's overestimating them. Let's set up a little TRD to help them out."

Trench Run Disease. Following in the line of the successful runs against the Death Stars, the tactic of flying low beneath a turret's firing arc had proven equally effective against Star Destroyers. Skim along the surface at high speed before peeling away and taking snap shots at a Destroyer's bridge.
