Train graveyard? At least it's short! And there's no boss! After having your materia stolen, you have to walk across an entire continent, complete a runaround quest in Wutai village, climb up the mountain, and then probably get wiped out by Rapps. ALL without magic.

Dammit, now I wanna play it again, too.

Hmm...gotta admit, much as I love Wizardry 8, I hate, hate, hate Bayjin and underwater caves. Fire spells don't work underwater, Rynjin are a chore to fight, the undersea creatures are even worse, and Nessie...oh dear god, Nessie...

...
Oh yes, every time I reach the Sea water caves, after the mandatory running in circles to make Vi unconscious and force her in(I'm not the only one who does that, right?), I cast soul shield on every fight asap and mentally prepare myself for the worst. But we have to give credit to Nessie for being one of the two, maybe three truly difficult and rewarding fights in a game, that's otherwise attrition-based(and I'm certainly not counting the final fight among those - the Savant is a wimp compared to Nessie!) :)
"How did we end up here? I'm not comfortable here at all...now look! You take me out of here right now!"

I actually never considered doing that to Vi. I mean, naturally not for Bayjin (I leave that RPC slot open for Sergeant Glumph), but to get her into Rapax Rift I always just used the T'rang portal, and for the Sea Caves I use a couple of portal spells. Still...makes one really appreciate RFS-81, huh?

And yeah, I certainly won't disagree on that, difficult or rewarding; hooray for Excalibur! Usual tactics for me are every buffing spell I know beforehand (except Haste, stupid "no fire spell" prohibition), equip everyone with healing potions and resurrection powder, enter combat and charge before Nessie realizes you're there, start casting Soul/Element Shield, Bless, and Superman, and pray fervently. Occasionally, I only win because she beats on me so much that she falls unconscious...

I'm just not as fond of the fight because it's the one I routinely have to reload and try again. I rarely have to do that with, say, the Sorceress fight (I'm assuming that's one of the others you were talking about?). Or even the Rapax army fight...though that one wasn't especially rewarding. Unless you count finally killing that annoying Rapax Prince.

I keep reading this and I always laugh. Seriously? You are all pussies, that's all I have to say. You know nothing of insanity. Welcome to FFXII's Great Crystal dungeon. The moment you zone in, the game turns off your map and your compass. You have to navigate it by exploration and memory and with no indication of where north and south are. You also have to press switches that open locked doors basically from one side of the dungeon to the other, and you have to get there, without getting lost, on a time limit.

"Water temple". Pffft.

God damn you I had repressed that!

Whats worse is you have to do it three times. Story mode, once for Ultima, and once for Omega Mk XII

ANY time I see a timer.

On anything.

Fuck timers.
I'm with you on that. I hate it when a game tries to rush me, I like making my own pace goddamn it...

Even when it seems realistic for you to be against time at that moment I still hate it, I hate being rushed and I usually panic and end up dying.
Most recent offender for me were the race missions in Assasin's Creed 2.

I failed them around three times each because I was in such a hurry that Ezzio would go flying off the side if a high building.

They really didn't organise the checkpoints well in those, which was extra annoying given the otherwise fluid feel of getting around in the game.

I hate the part where you have to be on a motorcycle in Metal Gear Solid 4. God, buy a frickin helicopter Eva.
Are you serious? I loved that section. I also loved the Motorcycle chase in MGS3. But it would be cool shooting from an Helicopter.

Forced tutorials in games with huge replay values like fallout I hated doing the tutorial over and over when I wanted to start new chars (I know about saving at the end but I shouldn't have to) the worst ones are in KoToR those forced starting planets put me off replays.

YES
The moment I see a timer, all fun is instantly drained.

And as for my own choice,
It would have to be Escort missions....in general.

Elegantly put.

I still am baffled why game designers think putting a incompetent (usually) CPU in our selfish control is a good idea.
Looking out for someone else in a video game proves to be gamers downfall...
At least to me =D
