Yea, thats pretty stupid, the kid wanted to wear a dress and heels, why the hell not? There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he was doing, not flashing anyone or doing anything provocative, just wearing a dress and heels, and of course the school goes completely bonkers. Kudos school system.

Put it to a vote; Should women be allowed to wear pants?!
better question should they be allowed to go pantyless, braless, wear a white shirt, and have a VERY short skirt on? well apparently yes. Yes, that's right they get away with that, but a guy can't wear a dress?
wtf mang.
Where I'm from women successfully won the legal right to run around completely topless. This is apparently what we get for complaining about men doing it. If you ask me, since we obviously can't trust men decide for themselves whether/when it is appropriate for them to go topless, we shouldn't just give the right to women to not be able to judge it either! I say no one should run around topless. I don't want to see anyone's saggy boobs thank you very much.

I know a lot of men are like, "WOW, I want to be where you live, women running around topless!" but understand it rarely actually happens and its very much like this: If you've ever been to a major pride event like they have in Toronto (where i am) and San Fransisco to name some major ones, you will notice that maybe 10-15% of women are topless at the event. That is a LOT of women. It's exactly the same as when men do it - sure a few have nice muscles and look hot, but the VAST majority you would rather just put their goddamned shirt on. Personally i would rather sacrifice looking at the few hot ones just so the rest of them had to wear shirts too.

It's called a "Dress code." Most schools have them. Look it up.
Dress codes are constantly changed and made to be changed used to be against the school rules for women to wear pants and does your school disallow wearing only one kind of color? The schools rules are as stupid as the law against whaling in a land locked state. Often serving no porpoise(lol) besides to get you in trouble.

I made this argument to someone in RL once, they didn't understand at all and went "huh, what?" I find if you don't look good to begin with you would most likely keep your shirt on anyway.

That being said we know this kid already got suspended multiple times due to dress code violations (hats and whatnot). So while I don't know exactly how this school works, because I don't have the handbook outlining punishments and rules, but if he has multiple offenses the school may be more likely to suspend him faster and for longer if he broke dress code again (if this is a multiple violation I'm surprised he only got 3 days).
We know he's been suspended once before, unless you've read more articles on this subject than I have.

According to what I've read, him wearing a dress was not a violation of the dress code. If it's not a violation, it's not a second violation or a multiple violation. Doing 65 on the motorway where the speed limit is 70 cannot be your second, third, tenth or seventy-third speeding offence if it's not a speeding offence at all.

In addition, we don't know what type of dress it is.
Erm ... okay, so maybe we don't, but ... y'know ... after I read people agreeing that he did look pretty I did click the link in the OP and there was a picture of someone in a dress and high heels.

It's MSN, and it's not obviously captioned, but here you go:

Presumably, if you're willing to place that much faith in MSN, it was that kind of dress.

A much better motivator than "Stay in school."
I think you just brought 1000 drop-outs to register some classes with that remark.

In Canada, I think you can go TOPLESS legally, so I suppose technically if a person wanted to, they can do that in school too, no?
Why do schools have an unusual double-standard about their 'rules'??? It's very unnerving that it's the one place in the world where people can just make up any rules they want and enforce them, it seems.

Nice. Gotta love america Huh? I joined the army to fight shit like this only to have it happen in my own backyard. Great.
Fighting people wearing dresses?
Fighting people wearing dressing gowns, I guess.

That kid has balls though. I was wondering if he had been suspended because of a dress code, but I guess there wasn't a mention of one.

Maybe when he goes back to school he should wear suspenders!

Eh? Eh?

To conform is to make the same. Sexism then is an enemy of conformity, thus the school is against conforming.
Gender roles =/= sexism. Blokes shouldn't wear dresses.
Any proof of that claim? Or is it a baseless opinion?
What? You didn't know? A girl wearing a man's shirt is sexy/tomboyish. A guy wearing a dress is a freak! Flawless logic, I know.
OP: Take those idiots to court. Was it in the Code of Conduct? No? You can't punish him for it, especially at a public school.

You would think they would, but that's part of my point - humans are notoriously horrible at judging themselves accurately. I know I wouldn't do it, but there are millions of fat people in extremely tight pants running around north america as we speak. They completely believe they look good.

Living in the UK, I'm not surprised by this at all. Most schools smack you with the stick of conformism. In my school you're not even allowed two tones in your hair, let alone a different colour. If a student came in with visibly different tones, they'd be told to leave until they washed out.

It's seriously that bad. I might come off as a bit insensitive here, but I'm used to that kind of treatment by my so called "superiors" so...Yeah, the school is kinda wrong for doing that, but at the same time, why not just wear the heels at the weekend if it was part of a bet?
Same here. My high school was the very definition. They were constantly changing the dress code without actually informing anyone or even updating the student handbook. Eventually people were getting detention for wearing multicoloured socks "because it's distracting in a learning environment." and yet kids with ADHD and such could fuck about in lessons and disrupt the class and they'd do sod all. Stupid.
Doc Theta! I remember you from some RPs!

Yeah, you kinda hit the nail on the head. At one point my school even tried to change the rules about female undergarments, as bras could be seen through white shirts. They had their way for a week or two before a plague of angry mothers complained.

guys can go topless, so women should be able to as well.
I mean men can have man boobs and be topless and no one comments on his lumps of fat, besides on the comments of omg he's fat. I also find it odd that violence is the easier thing to deal with than sex altogether are we really that unresolved?

i agree with you for the record. This issue is one that i can see both sides of and my opinion on everyone wearing shirts i understand can be countered easily. On one hand i fully believe in everyone's freedom of personal expression regardless of my personal opinions on whatever they are expressing. On the other hand though, search myself though i do, I can't stop thinking "No really, everyone put your freaking shirt on" about this particular 'shirt or no shirt for men, women or both' debate.

If its a distraction to learning, (and I'd assume it would be, hell even a girl earing a wedding dress would be distracting and hard to maneover around in the hallways) but hats? Is anyone else angry at THAT part?

This is my two cents.

Gender roles are sexism we have seen this come up in the MLPFIM argument.

Its okay for grown men to like thundercats and transformers but if they like a girls show about ponies it's degrading why? becuase society has taught that 'feminine things' are 'lesser' then 'masculine things.' If a person thinks that a man watching MLP or wearing a dress is wierd but they thinks its okay to watch thundercats and for women to wear pants then they are subconciously sexist because they think feminine things are degrading.

I've even come across the reverse where women have ridiculed me for liking 'masculine things' Ie video games. It's hard to be friends with alot of other women becuase of my interests, they are sexist too.

I pretty much despise any sort of uniform it's a horrible squash of individuality for kids.
