There is some speculation going on that in the distant future octopi could evolve and live on land.

You sure this isn't just a story by the Daily Mail to tell us how stupid the people of today are (ironic, I know)?

I bet the next time they write about the story they blame it on the Muslims.
i was thinking the same thing. i was thinking, "Man, how gullible can people be?" and then i noticed the article was by the Daily Mail, and it immediately lost all credibility.

I wonder how many of the people panicking in the Daily Mail offices over how 'every student ever believes in everything on the Interwebs, OH NOES!!!!' were taken in by the spaghetti tree and flying penguin April Fool's gags the BBC has run before. A good hoax has people believing in it even after being given evidence that it's false, no matter what the medium. This proves nothing that the article claims it does.

Meh dont know about the credibilitys of any news papers. I just posted this like i saw it :D

if its a ploy to see who fell for the idea that people fell for this. Then i fell for it completely(seen enough idiots to know they could easily believe in tree octopi.)

It doesn't say how old the students were, maybe they were 5 years old or something.

It doesn't say how old these 'students' are though.

Are they grade schoolers or high schoolers?
I mean, I can understand it if it's grade schoolers. After all, they're just kids. Kids believe stupid shit. That's just the way it works. If they were highschoolers though, that's a bit more worrying.

It would also have been awesome if that entire news article was made up to prove the point it claims to be making. I don't think they'd go through the trouble of creating an entire website for that purpose though.

Edit: Okay, I linked a friend to this, and she bought it.

PS: Even though its ridicilous a tree octopus would be freaking AWESOME. The best creature on earth :D
watch "The Future is Wild". it basically just shows what animals might be like after millions or billions of years of evolution. like the last thing is tree octopuses, and they use weapons :D

its really good. unfortunately i cant find the original special ANYWHERE on the internet. only some shitty fake-documentary version with dorky scientists

This is nothing. About 5-6 years ago me and a mate got one of our classmates to believe that Costa Rica was under attack by a large amount of migrating jellyfish that produced hydrogen that allowed them to float out of the water and drift in the air. We also told him they were extremely volatile and that when startles they exploded.

As far as I know the guy still believes in these floating jellyfish to this day.

We also told him bigamy was a type of cake and that calling himself impotent was a niftier way of saying important. We were cruel, cruel kids.
Flying jellyfish sound almost as awesome as tree octopus :)

Meh, I don't see that big a deal here. There are a hell of a lot of very strange looking creatures I've never heard of in various documentaries etc. that (I assume at least) are very real. The idea of a creature that resembles an octopus doesn't seem that far fetched to me.

A couple of my friends (brothers) were told by their parents that there was a creature called a Farleywog. When they were moving across Canada, they were told to keep an eye out for them as a means to shut them the hell up (a 4 year old and 6 year old). They were supposed to be rare oversized gophers with horns.
They brought it up in casual conversation when they were 19 years and 17 years old, and we were like "guys, what the fuck are you talking about."
"You know, a farleywog?"
Their dad was cracking up laughing at them going, "you guys still believe that shit?"
And they were pissed off because somehow the idea of this creature became so ingrained in their minds that they never bothered questioning weather or not it was real...it just was because they learned it from a trusted source.

That's a scary problem, when youth today are seeing the internet as the same trustworthy source as their parents.

Sadly, the tree octopus falls into the category of "too cool to be true." I would have spotted it as a fake right away, but a little piece of me would have died in realizing it.
