Sly Cooper gives you a trophy for starting the game, and another for collecting one coin. That's too much effort for me to handle

95% of achievements are stupid. Especially FPSs. Anybody can shoot 20 guys. Anybody can beat the game (unless you lose the game). Anybody can beat levels 1-10.

There are only a few trophies actually worth a second glance - particularly (in PS3 terms) Platinum trophies. But even then, it just shows you that you bothered to pour a certain amount of your time into a game.

The trophies that you earn by the pressing start for the first time on a game. Yeah make me earn those trophies game.

Also, trophies for random things that you do all the time, for example Infamous 2 you get a trophy for standing on a chainlink fence, something you only do about 50 million times throughout the game. Thanks again for making me work for the trophy game.
I think that trophy was meant to be a joke. If I remember correctly, in inFAMOUS 1, one of the few things you couldn't scale was chain link fences, which is why the description for the trophy said something along the lines of "Jump over a fence and rejoice!", or something like that. I could be wrong though, and please correct me if I am.

OT: Multiplayer trophies in a singleplayer focused game where the multiplayer is "tacked on". Do they really expect the multiplayer to last long enough for people to get those trophies a few months down the line?

All online trophies in general.
That.

However, and maybe it's just because I'm not a big gamer and can never do these anyway, but anything along the lines of "Finish the game on Super Hard Mode Using the Starter Weapon and Without Dying...in 15 minutes."
See, those ones I don't mind because they have actually made me work for it. Even if a few wanted to make me put down the controller and never play the game again (Here's looking at you, ME2 in insanity).

Anything online pisses me off. I mean, for a start I don't have it, but usually when i get the game the servers are offline or barely populated anyway >.>
the me2 insanity achievement made me want to put a gun to my head and that was on the second. fucking. level.

Those are platinum trophies yeah?

But yeah those ones that can only be described as patronising are the worst.

There was a Simpsons game that gave you an achievement for pressing "start" on the menu screen. But it was given a fitting name:

"Worst Achievement Ever"

Some games give you achievements for pressing start. Hardly an achievement.

A lot of the WoW achievements are pretty ridiculous. I'm a bit of a fan of To All The Squirrels I've Loved Before, since it's completely and utterly pointless

Call of Duty WaW Sum of Zeros (I think that's what it's called) you have to shoot down 20 Japanese planes that are speeding so fast you will be lucky if you can down five of them.

Escapists, what is the most stupidest achievement or trophy that you have earned/seen?

For example, I was playing Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II, and one of the achievements is called "Try a tutorial."

To gain it, you have to lose a skirmish by an opponent ranked 20 places below you.

Not only is this now unobtainable due to the EA servers being taken down, but seriously, WHY would I want to lose to someone like that? Plus, it doesn't give you a gamerscore, or anything like that. Seriously, it seems more like a mark of shame than anything else.

So what examples can you think of?
In most cases achievements like the one you mentioned (i.e. achievements that would imply you having to lose at something or otherwise not do well in the game) ARE meant to be a mark of shame/teasing jest towards the player, that's why they have a 0 gamerscore value.

As for an achievement that I thought was stupid, in celebration of Warriors Orochi 3 coming, out, I'll point to the achievement in WO 2 which demanded that you beat every level on every difficulty. Sounds easy enough...except there's no "auto-complete" function for beating a level on a higher difficulty (that is to say how most games if you complete it on Hard, it counts as having completed it on Normal and Easy as well. This game you have to meticulously beat every level 4 times for Easy, Normal, Hard, Super Hard). Still, not so bad...except when you consider the fact that in order to unlock the last playable bonus level, you have to get your combined weapon proficiency for all characters to like 3,356 or something like that. This essentially translates into "Play this game for more than 150 hours."

Which brings me to another set of lame achievements: the time base ones. Like the Dead Island one where you just have to play the game 28 days after the first time you played it. Not bad. But what about Arkham City in which you have to visit Calender Man on every holiday of the year? Good god, I mean that game was a HELL of a lot of fun, but unless you cheat (disconnect your XBox and change the date in the system settings) that means that they want you to either keep playing it for the better part of a year just to get that achievement. There's only so many times you can play through that story, so many times you can beat the crap out of a buncha thugs before you start wanting to play something else.

Captcha: Ok...wow.... "The infiniti jx inspired a cirque du soleil performance."....and apparently it's a True/False question? Great, now I have to google before I can make a post?

but I did just have an idea for a trophy/achievement I would like to see: Reverse trophies/achievements. For example, you'd get the trophy as soon as you started the game, but you loose it as soon as you meet certain conditions.
Back in Ye Olde Days, prior to the existence of cheevo's, the Sierra adventure game "Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist" (it's better than it sounds) did something like this. Walking up to your pharmacy, locating the key, and opening the front door awarded you enough points to bring your Score up to around half of the total available points in the game. The narrator even lampshades it by telling you that you're now 'halfway through the game!' However, the first time you leave the shop and lock up, it promptly deducts all but ten or so of those points, precisely so you DO have to work for them. ;) Pure evil.

Oooh... The Gears of War series has a crap-load of stupid achievements in...

"Complete the tutorial"
"Complete act 1"
"Complete act 2"
Ect...

Seriously, you unlock most of the achievements by just going through the game, not going through the game with X silly restriction (Like HL:2 Ep 1's One Free Bullet Achievement, or that Gnome one from whichever episode had that in) just playing the game... Sure there are 4 levels of achivement for the different difficulties, but really?

Also I remember that Gears of War 1 had an online achieve which was something like "Kill 9000 players" which is just stupid...

Really the only achivements I actually like where some fun ones to get (Like One Free Bullet, so many fun times when I was pelting a combine in the face with a small fragment of a crate because I ran out of other things to throw at him) and that one game that was a parody of achivements where the whole object of the game was to unlock the 101 achievements (The first one unlocked by getting to the main menu, the second was for starting the game)

the God of War origins collection has some wierd ones.

"Pass all the beam walks in the game" there is one beam walk thing in the entire game and its about 5 minutes into it lol.

and other one called "almost there" that pops about half way accross this massive chain thing, which made me laugh.

Gnome Chompski for Left 4 Dead 2.

You have to carry a Garden Gnome that you win in an Arcade shooter to the end of the level. It's quite fun actually....
Best one ever. Me and my best mates were doing it, and I didn't get what we were doing at first, but we all got into it, and were going on about "Gnomey". "Oh no, we have to save Gnomey!" "Gnomey is useless for bashing zombies."

Finally we get to the finale, and every game one of my mates in the game and I have played, had the chopper come in on the right. So we went off to there when we heard it. My other friend grabbed the gnome and looked up, laughing as it came in on the left, and went that way. In the end, only he and the gnome escaped, as the rest of us got hammered by a double tank.

Damn, ninja'd.

Alright, how about: every single online achievement ever. Yes. That is different.
I REALLY hate those too.

Or ones that require you too play against a developer of the game, like with Red Dead Redemption.

Really Rockstar, do you know how had that is to accomplish? VERY FREAKING HARD.
...I have that one. And the one like it on GTA IV.

OY: I hate the ones that are like "Finish 5 levels with 4 people from your friends list.". My friends don't play the same shit that I do, so this isn't happening.

That's got nothing on the Gnome Achievement from Half Life 2 ep 2, you had to carry it through the entire game, bearing in mind there were vehicle sections, where you just had to balance it on top of the car...while being chased by a helicopter firing rockets at you. My flat mates done it and it is fucking insane.
