I had a hard time starting Morrowind out, here's how it went the first time.

Morrowind: Got off a boat, walked a little, and got killed by a mutant leech.

That's because your green bar at the bottom was black.

Gotta have Fatigue. Tired people can't hit mutant leeches.

That being said, I kinda agree with you on Morrowind being a slow starter the first time. I can expect that no-one who did particularly well kept using their first character beyond about level 10.
