I never thought he had a citizenship, that's the sort of thing mild-mannered alter-egos do, isn't it?

But yeah...it gets annoying when superheros confuse the US with the world. When there's a threat to the world, the Justice League of America deals with it, not the Justice League of the United Nations or something. Admittedly not true of all comics, but there's a definite trend.

I want Superman to start the JLUN!
What, so they can write strongly worded letters to super villians requesting that they stop whatever they are doing or they will be sanctioned?

This actually makes me very sad. Superman is an american icon, a symbol of values we once had. I understand from a thematic stand point it makes sense, it's just a very startling sign of the times that we can't even have Superman representing america anymore.

At least we still have Batman
Captain America is a better "American Superhero" in every sense.
He's a great character too, but not everyone is from America on planet Earth.

What I always liked about Supes was the Kryptonian heritage and that he could stand for everyone on his adopted planet, not just his adopted country.

Read Red Son, where baby Kal El's ship crashes in Siberia, and not Kansas for a very interesting and awesome take on the story.

Also, if people don't follow the books or even like the character, why bother posting?
Surely it won't matter a jot to you if he flies around naked with his arse painted blue?

I think this is a natural step and an interesting one.

And before I get flamed as being a fanboy, look at my avatar for my allegiances.
I prefer coke, but I still drink Pepsi if I have to. its close enough when Im thirsty. Just so I like Marvel, but I still have a foot in DC Comics. And I do follow somewhat on Batman.

I don't think this is a big deal, I just think its funny that perhaps one of the silliest fictional comic book heroes (which is truly saying something) is making such political statements. Not that I read any of this stuff, but perhaps the political idea should be kept to actual serious graphic novels and not a flimsy story about a guy who wears his underpants on the outside of his costume.

Sounds like a comic book writer is trying to be important and deep. Comes across as corny instead.

I am not suprised..? I never really payed much attention to this stuff, except for owning a blu-ray verison of one of the original versions of the Superman Movie, and I kind of always assumed that he was a protector of Earth, and not just America.

Hence Superman. :p

In terms of cannon, it could be link-up with the new Batman Incorporated that's going on at the moment; taking the standard hero's away from the standard settings and trying out something new. And now Batman and Superman have an excuse to get in each others way outside of America. It's not the best way of doing it, at all. If you want a better alt.Superman comic, read Red Son (I think); it's an elseworlds comic (non-cannon) that has Superman as a hero for Communist Russia under Lenin and Stalin. Much better look at an old superero in a completely different place.

Exactly, it's all down to personal taste.
There is no right or wrong; some stories will work for you where others might not.

I don't care what nationality he considers himself, I just wish the kryptonian twat would stop dismantling my death rays.
