Yeah... I predict [small](and support)[/small] a lawsuit. The guy is gonna get fired and I got nothing wrong with that.

And what's with this "relating to the students" crap? Is that a good excuse for calling your student a loser? I'm even the bullies of that girl thought that was too far... or at least I hope. :p

Just because it is relevant to my post. Yes and read the post above yours for my reasoning :p (the last part).

...how old is this teacher?

At first I thought it was something another student wrote. That or it sounds like some "wacky" student-is-the-teacher scenario.

How does that help you "relate" to your students? That's just being a bully and the fact that he actually took off points for such a thing is discrimination against that student. I agree that that man should be fired!

Alright, I did. I see what your trying to say, and to a certain extent, I understand. Teachers really shouldn't hold the hands of the students down the road of their lives.

But like I said, I only agree to a certain extent. I also don't think teachers should throw there students face in the gravel at the side of the road and demean them extremely. How do you know it will help the kid? Sure, your teacher might have helped you, but that's you not the others. How do you know it won't discourage them to speak up and go through life scared, not making the necessary tough decisions, and probably even kill themselves? [small](though, I'll admit, the last part sounds a bit extreme)[/small]

Yes, life is tough, but a teacher has no right to make it tougher than it needs to be.

Teachers shouldn't help kids [small](other than obviously teaching)[/small], but they shouldn't hurt kids either.

It is in no way a motivational method. Students can and should be exposed to tough love, but not bullying. A teacher says that to my kid and I'm meeting them in the parking lot. Not to hurt them, but to motivate them to be more respectful.

We need more teachers like him. At least he says what he thinks instead of being a pussy and gives cold, hard motivation instead of the usual crap like "Oh honey it will get better". If she cant take adversity and challenges then get out of the school.
Quote for truth

Seriously it's about time that a teacher called it as he saw it.
I could not disagree with you more, to start with let me tell you that I am about 15ish credits from getting by teaching degree.
with that in mind

A teacher takes on many roles in the classroom, one of these roles is to motivate students to achieve greatness, to show that student that he/she , can do anything if they work hard. This teachers actions are completely uncalled for. There are better ways of doing this than calling a student a loser. If you keep calling a student a loser they soon will think they are one. Then you have destroyed this child's life. Positive reinforcement is always better than negative reinforcement. Would you call your own children losers if they did poorly on a assignment.?
Except pain, pain is always the best teacher.

My 11th grade math teacher would staple McDonalds applications to failed tests. It was hilarious but, in this situation it's wrong because of how young the student is and how blunt/unfunny the notes are.

Do we actually know that the teacher did it, or could it have just been some other student who wrote it? That sounds like a scheme that I would cook up to get revenge on a teacher I hated.
^ this is possible. I agree it could just be a prank. IN THIS SCENARIO the teacher went too far. Don't fire her but she should apologize and undo the mental scarring (lol).

BUT!

Kids these days shit all over teachers anyways, and they can't lay a hand on them. If the kid deserves it, the teacher should be able to give a piece of their mind to the future burger flippers.

The construction teacher in my school had no problem putting kids in holds. But only yo kids who try to fight him because they think he can't hit them back.

I've kinda been against the whole "everyone wins" and "no wrong answers" movement in childcare/education; but this would be the other extreme.

Notice that those who "defend" him would rather not be identified.

If this had been a teacher to a high school student- I would be cool with it, unless the kid had a learning disability. By the time you're in high school, you should be able to do work or face consequences. For a sixth grade student, this is ridiculous. An 11 year old doesn't need to be called a loser by their teacher. That's just asinine for the teacher to do that.

Yeah, simply being written of as a "loser" is REAL constructive and will certainly motivate children to do better.

Where's that epic facepalm-pic with Jean-Luc Picard when you need it?
