I don't think TF2 is overrated...I'd argue that it's one of the more replayable multiplayer online FPS games out there. I would say that the new Valve release, Left 4 Dead is overrated, and that I still prefer TF2 over it. L4D is incredibly repetitive and frustrating, because you're at the whim of an AI and whatever other three teammates you end up with...whereas TF2 allows you to contribute to the team gameplay while also doing your own thing on the individual level to some extent.

I WISH that I could play this game. The online community for the Xbox 360 users of this game is so diminished, I'm lucky if I'm even able to find a few games. More than half the time, I'm told their are no games and that I should host. Weaksauce.

From what I have experienced, the game seems fairly fun. Take that malnourished opinion for what it's worth.

I'm sorry you were playing it on the 360? That's your problem right there.

Everyone seems to overate these Ferrari things. I bought one, and tried to drive it at the bottom of the ocean and it ran like crap.
What makes you think he playing it on the xbox? I don't think the OP ever said that.

I enjoyed TF2 but I haven't played it since I bought new multilayer games, Left 4 dead being one of them.

There isn't a lot to it, but the simplicity and easy design make it fun to just pick up and play.

2) Everybody goes on about how everybody who plays Team Fortress 2 is great and nobody ever calls each other noobs, and there isn't any teabagging anywhere. I've played the game, and the conduct was the same as in any other multiplayer game.
I actually found it much better than I had anticipated. It ended up being my most-played game in The Orange Box.

I think that Team Fortress 2 is one of the best multiplayer FPS's ever, why? Because Valve have put alot of thought into their maps and characters.
They tried to make sure no one could exploit in any of the maps and there is always one class that could always break the enemies defence, if the other team knows how to use them.

Its balanced, has great comic artstyle, achievements, and besides every online fps really based on point & click so i dont mind teamfortress repeating itself

If you played it on Xbox, I think I've found your problem.

Leave good FPS games to PC, you have your precious Halo.

The game is well balanced, the art and sense of humour about the game is refreshing in a sea of very serious FSP's.
But, like any online game, it's only as good as the people who are on the server with you...

There are so many little touches that make TF2 great. Like the way the scout says "Eat it, fatty!" when he bats a Heavy to death, or the hilarious facial expressions the characters make when they talk, or the wooden cow statues sitting outside the fences, or the goofy Achievement concepts like Bar-B-QQ. The sillyness seems to keep people from taking the game too seriously too, somehow. You rarely encounter online jerks which is one of the most amazing things about it the game experience.

TF2 is also a game that actually encourages 12 random people to come together and play as a team by creating specific niches for a variety of different play styles and rewarding team contribution. Even the personal scores seem to reflect pretty well how much you contributed. I have found that playing the class that your team needs most is a sure-fire way to score in the top 3-5 on the server every time.

TF2 is in the very upper echelon of online multiplayer games for polish, balance, and style.

I thought this was a topic about TF2, not a place to try out clichéd one-liners. If you're going to be elitist, at least throw in some fucking jokes.

Not many people play it anymore on XBL, but one thing is for sure: this is, by far, the most cooperative action involving game I have seen in ages. Most of the times, in CoD 5, or Halo 3, the strategies my mates suggested where either hog the sniper rifles in an adequately well fortified position so that we could snipe the stupid out of the enemies, or hog EVERY SINGLE ONE of the one kill wonders in an attempt to prove our suckery. It IS interesting to see, for example, how barely 2 seconds after the game has begun in TF2, someone has come up with a strategy, like making 2 engineers build a beach head on the enemy base, or having a medic/heavy combo ready to strike as soon as a soldier has weakened their defenses. I have always had a hard addiction of strategy games, and after playing TF2, I believe to have found something I had been expecting: a tactical FPS where the tactics depend on teamwork rather than having most bullshitty weapons. In short, TF2 is brilliant. It stands high above other FPS' titles, not only for excelling gameplay that can compel even the most laid back gamer to find a class that will fit him, but also in the original design ideas of the maps and the personalities of the classes. Most of them have some really wacky quotes, e.g. soldier: WAAAAAAAAAAGH bonk bonk. This makes the game, altogether, a fresh, innovative idea that will live for long, until TF 3 comes out at least.

I don't understand its attraction.
It seems like just another average multiplayer shooter to me.
It was okay. Everyone wanted to play the same map again and again and wouldn't try anything else. I got bored. The balance people talked about would mean working as team which the people I played with didn't have any idea how to do.

It seemed like a disjointed team deathmatch with goals achieved accidently not actively sort out.

I won't be revisiting as there are better shooters out there.

And I agree it's overrated - but the package it came in, Orange Box - rated.

I played TF2 hardcore and bought it pretty much on release. My clan held the #2 spot on the Aussie ladders in terms of competative play up until most of our team left for greener pastures.

Those who played the original TF/TFC at clan levels would know how intense the community, competitions and cringe-inducing forum flame wars that existed during the old hay-day which gave TF2 the immidiate fan-base...but also alot of hype to live up to. But just like most sequels dummed down the learning curve quite substantially the term "clusterfuck" was mentioned earlier. Absence of gren jumps, bhopping -etc etc (insert nostalgia here)

Despite this, the class balance was pretty good and it did make for some fun times, especially when 6v6 and 8v8 games reduced the "clusterfuckky-ness" and tactics, teamwork and co-ordination became more central... This was until the string of patches to introduce new guns, achivements uber charges and other gimmicky stuff.

For those competative gamers who seem to find themselves aiming for clans/ladders and more organised gameplay i'd say TF2 HAD potential... but like most games the developers will cater for the casuals (or bads) by dumming down the learning curve introducing "acheivments" and helping the casual player feel special (but why wouldn't they, the bulk of the $$$ comes from this demographic)

Not meant to be a bash
just my 2c
