Totally agreeable. Those factors always destroy gameplay. Although... the soldier does have a rocket launcher, at least if that's the RPG you mean.

I'm a huge fan of TF2, but I think there's a kind of repetitiveness that's bad in it. In 2Fort, there's basically two very good places to put sentries and someone puts them there every time. I really am not crazy about 2fort. Spawn camping with demo men is a problem, too.

Once you get past that, though, the play is varied and balanced. The classes' strengths depend on where the action is and the make up of both teams. What I like about the game is that choosing a class when you respawn is a strategic decision. If you know the sentries will be down, you play scout. If your team has created a stable front line, you can play sniper. If teams are using a tunnel with corners to flank you, be a pyro. A heavy near a dispenser can neutralize spies. Like that. Took me a while to get a feel for the game play, but now that I've got it, it's rewarding.

Wouldn't know about the name-calling - I keep the sound off.

I don't know what you mean by repetitive gameplay.. Almost every encounter with an enemy is unique. There is more tactics involved than most fps.

I had some really fun matches and some terrible ones. There was a few times where I just got pwned repeatedly by things like Demo men spitting out bombs all over the flags so no one ever had a chance of winning (since they were so focused on protection they never bothered going after our flag). Another one had us pinned in our spawn point by turrets and pyros (to stop our spies). I always thought the engineers really had no place in the game. It takes no skill to place a turret in an awkward place and rack up the kills.

Personally, I love the game, and don't think its overhyped... even if it had some hype! As I've not really seen all the much hype outside of steam/valve fan forums anyway.

I'm not a fan of TF2. I played it when I first got Live, but I found it to be very unbalanced. There was no class which did not require an extremely quick reaction time to play well; I prefer some strategy when playing online. If only that game had a gun which shot bullets in a straight line rather than spraying them everywhere besides the sniper rifle, which has its own problems.
An FPS that requires reactions? My GOD!! You may find it needs quick reactions because it was made for PC, and you can aim quicker and more presice with a mouse...

And you have a problem with a gun that has recoil? Theres quite a lot of games that use Cone-of-Fire type shooting, its not just TF2, TF2 is pretty lax on it, as the Heavies bullets have a set cone of fire, no matter how long you hold down the trigger.
I'm sure that TF2 works better on the PC, but I prefer games which put an emphasis on aiming rather than twitch reflexes.

You wont see much teabagging in TF2 because most of the bodies get gibbed to buggery.

Love the screen shots after you die "a piece of you" "another piece" "your leg" "your kidney".

only thing worth playing one the orange box
any FPS online with no grenades or RPGs=instant fucking win
I'm assuming that you haven't played P0rtal yet.
I'm going to assume you didn't either, seeing as the online play for Portal was fairly limited by the fact that it doesn't exist.
He said TF2 was the only thing worth playing on The Orange Box. He said it was because it was an online shooter.

Tell me where I said that P0rtal was an online shooter, instead of sarcastically mentioning that he only thinks that TF2 is better because he hasn't played P0rtal.

Go on. I'm waiting. :)
ive played all the orange box has to offer
HL2,ep1 and ep 2 AND portal=over fucking rated
*Eyeroll*

P0rtal is MASSIVELY open to interpretation. That's why it's so great.

Half Life 2 and it's episodes are VERY important in the videogaming world.

Everyone has their own opinion though, completely idiotic or not.

Team Fortress can be repetative. It can be a game that you love but it won't always love you back. None of the classes are perfect so it makes the game more difficult.

And if nobody calls each other noobs or tea bags anybody, wouldn't that be kind of a plus?

How do you define which is which? Aiming is down to reflexes and a steady hand, as is twitching end of the day.

Heavy is more about aiming then twitching, as would the sniper? The pyro isnt really either as its jsut point in the general direction rather then aim! (Unless you use the flares)

Team Fortress 2 is the best FPS multiplayer game released in the past three years. The balance and quality of content is far superior to the likes of Call of Duty 4 (or should I say, Call of Camping 4: Grenade Warfare?), Halo 3, whatever. I say this having played pretty much every major FPS since the genres inception with Wolfenstein.

That being said, if you are playing either of the console versions, that's probably why you are having a crappy time. The PC version has a far more mature community and additional content from both Valve and the community.

If you are playing the PC version and still think it's crap, well then, you probably have the problem have having shitty taste for video games.

The balance and team work made it great.
I've actually never seen your #2 point occur, so maybe it's just that you're playing on a console like someone before me said. Everyone had a job to do and you did it well or you lost, simple as that

while I wouldn't consider it a god among games, I can say that I am drawn to it by its art style and over the top personalities they have set forth for many of the classes. Its also a kind of nice change of pace from your average military "good guys V bad guys" scenario. Two crews of workers, one set from a demolition company and the other from a construction company, battling it out over....well....that part I'm not sure about yet.

Point being that its meant to be a somewhat wacky showdown between the various psychopathic people the military wouldn't take. At least, that's what it has come across as to me.

There are a lot of secret supearweapons hidden around the various maps: I think the construction and demolition companies are meant to be fronts for cliched, sinister secret organisations.

As opposed to offline?
Well, the rest of the Orange Box is good, I love Half Life 2 and the Episodes, Portal is challenging and fun (can be annoying), but Team Fortress 2 is just boring when u compare it to other FPS games online.

TF2's depth depends on which class you play.

The different classes are very different and require different knowledge about the map. For example, Soldier needs to know where they can rocket jump to gain an advantage above their enemies. Demomen need to know chokepoints, and where they can sticky jump. Scouts need to know where they can double jump, and always make sure they have an escape option. Engineers need to know the best spots for their structures. Spies need to know the best places to uncloak etc...

I don't think this is repetitive at all compared to other shooters

Of course the Heavy and Pyro are rather simple compared to the others, but they are good for new players.

TF2 would be perfect if crits didn't exist. Sure it's like replacing the random headshots in other FPS games, but at least those take more skill than a crit Rocket or Sticky grenade.

Waaaay better when crits are turned off.
