I'm assuming that you haven't played P0rtal yet.
That.

Oh, and RPG is there. But only one class can use it.

I do think it is slightly overappreciated, but I still find it to be an amazingly fun and balanced game. Frankly, I love it, but I don't understand how some people can play it for months on end.
Friend of mine feels the same way.

I don't have it, but I think I would like it because of the sense of humor the game has where it pretty much makes fun of itself. Constantly.

You wont see much teabagging in TF2 because most of the bodies get gibbed to buggery.

Love the screen shots after you die "a piece of you" "another piece" "your leg" "your kidney".

I'm going to assume you didn't either, seeing as the online play for Portal was fairly limited by the fact that it doesn't exist.

He said TF2 was the only thing worth playing on The Orange Box. He said it was because it was an online shooter.

Tell me where I said that P0rtal was an online shooter, instead of sarcastically mentioning that he only thinks that TF2 is better because he hasn't played P0rtal.

Go on. I'm waiting. :)

Him:

only thing worth playing on the orange box = I enjoyed this game thoroughly, much more then the others included in the package it came in

any FPS online with no grenades or RPGs=instant fucking win = I enjoyed this game thoroughly because I enjoy the genre and the features that it posses, notably the lack of horribly over powered weapons that I do not like in other games of the genre.

You:

I'm assuming that you haven't played P0rtal yet. = I am going to assume that you didn't play portal, one of the games in the aforementioned package, because it is also an excellent game from that genre with similar features, I enjoyed it alot more then that game.

at least, thats how it reads to me.

Personally I enjoyed the game immensely. I've played Team Fortress since it's quake days and I didn't have high hopes for this new version (given there have already been 3 distinct team fortresses and at least two popular rip-offs). The product that was delivered certainly exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations. Instead of just giving me TFC with improved graphics I was given what amounts to a new experience altogether. The game stayed true to the basic class functions and roles but mixed things up enough that in many cases It was like playing a whole new game. The Pyro for example was no longer a skirmishing class at all, instead becoming the ultimate ambush class.

Personally, I love the game, and don't think its overhyped... even if it had some hype! As I've not really seen all the much hype outside of steam/valve fan forums anyway.

To the OP:

1. What FPS isnt repetative? TF2 when compared to others has a riduculous number of maps should you choose to actively search for them. With the various game modes you don't always all rush one way, as thats how people get farmed! Some maps are pretty dull (24/7 2fort server anyone?) but then you have others like Badwater and Goldrush, that make a nice rolling battle that tends to be different most times you play it, with so many optimum positions for turrets, unless the other team has 5 engis, they'll most likely always be in different places.

2. As with all online games, it depends where you play. Personally I have a couple servers in my favourates list that I go to, and not much else. Public play servers (ones owned by sponsors and server companies, EA, etc) tend to be pretty crappy, as they have no admins and its all automated. But go on a decent clan server and you'll find they keep a tight reign on those that play on there server. (Oh, and its pretty hard to teabag and exploded person!!)

I accept that its your opinion, but I personally feel that its way above average, it does something different, it doesn't try to be the latest WW2 or Gulf War sim like so many others. It just takes the simple elements of FPS, personifies them into 9 over the top characters, and lets them go work together and do what they were made for, kill, explode and cap :D

I'm not a fan of TF2. I played it when I first got Live, but I found it to be very unbalanced. There was no class which did not require an extremely quick reaction time to play well; I prefer some strategy when playing online. If only that game had a gun which shot bullets in a straight line rather than spraying them everywhere besides the sniper rifle, which has its own problems.
An FPS that requires reactions? My GOD!! You may find it needs quick reactions because it was made for PC, and you can aim quicker and more presice with a mouse...

And you have a problem with a gun that has recoil? Theres quite a lot of games that use Cone-of-Fire type shooting, its not just TF2, TF2 is pretty lax on it, as the Heavies bullets have a set cone of fire, no matter how long you hold down the trigger.

The way I describe it: Every class is equally useless. It surprised me actually, but it does bring about a great deal of balance to the game when every class is so pathetic that every other class can kick it's arse. I know, I'm a engie that can easily gun down heavies with a shotgun though I have yet to master killing of scouts... damn those scouts.

As for repetitiveness: If your idea of being a repetitive game comes down to 'doing the same things over and over' then every multilayer game be it FPS, RTS, MMO or what not is going to count. No game suddenly morphs into another game when your playing online and very few do it in single player either. In FPS your always going to have the same map rotations with the same weapons doing the same objectives, in RTS your going to have the same map rotations with the same units doing the same objectives. MMOs.... well different maps, but same pointless grinding techniques regardless where you are.

I've made a search, and it didn't turn anything up.

Team Fortress 2. A god amongst games for many here, but I don't understand its attraction.
It seems like just another average multiplayer shooter to me.

1) Gameplay: The gameplay to me was very repetitive and wasn't anything to talk about.
Each time you play a map, the same things happen, the rush to a certain point, a turret built in a certain point etc.

2) Everybody goes on about how everybody who plays Team Fortress 2 is great and nobody ever calls each other noobs, and there isn't any teabagging anywhere. I've played the game, and the conduct was the same as in any other multiplayer game.

It's not a bad game by any means, but there wasn't anyhting special about it in my view. To me it's an average game in a sea of average games

(I loved everything else on the Orange Box by the way)
I was dissipointed by TF2 i found no fun

i loved portal

hated the rest

a game of a few pounds
can compete with other more expensive games
nothings is overrated just better that most games around there
the game will turn better after every major update what's keeps the fun also
and yeah of course there will be swearing and stuff
but that happens in other games also
so that's no point to make it look worse

I play TF2 a lot
am in a nice UK clan with nice people what make the game more fun
and if you play 6vs6 or 8vs8 you don't get that nonsense what a lot of you are shouting

most things you all mention is the same as in other games
so if you can mention a good reason why its bad let us know
thank you

If you played it on Xbox, I think I've found your problem.

Leave good FPS games to PC, you have your precious Halo.
Hey! I don't play Halo, I mean I bought it like the rest of us sheep, and I didn't like it.

I still think Half-Life 2 is the greatest single player shooter ever, and I loved Portal to pieces. It sounds like if I played TF2 on the PC it would be better. I'll try that some time then.

Also, if you go thru the 'commentaries' on TF2, you'll learn just how much thought was put into the game design too, the slight glow around each character that helps distinguish them from a background, the fact that all the characters are immediately recognisable in silhouette, unlike more realistic games where a lot of the classes look like the same guy in camo and a helmet at first glance, all sorts of things that show they really took their time thinking about the gameplay.

Maybe I'm an oddity or something but anytime I play TF2 on Live, I always join games with people that aren't complete idiots, I don't hear the little 7 years olds singing or talking about how awesome they are, or the older players playing the game like they're in the army, any game I play in, we use tactics and plans to win, but we also have fun.

I don't know maybe I'm in the twilight zone or something but it really isn't as bad as some people are portraying it.

Every online game is repetative. WoW, Rainbow 6, Hello Kitty Online... The point is if you are having fun while doing nothing at all.

You got me there. Sometimes I play and there are awesome people on. Sometimes not, and that is uniform from my point of view. I think its all about what you like. I am a big "Pet Class" player so the engineer really appeals to me. That is why I play TF & TF2.

is it just me or are the ps3 and xbox 360 online communities ALWAYS ruder than the PC ones? and team fortress isnt repetitive theres many classes to choose from (although there is no women) but i love it, it deserves the attention its recieved its a good game.

Absolutely I was bored after about half an hour. The levels are just so uninspired. The combat isn't much fun either.

I much prefer Battlefield series for team based FPS.

i personaly think this is not a balanced game because each class is so specialised that if they and try to do anything that they were not bulit for they die a lot. for example...

if a pyo ambushes any player that is alone the player is dead but the second a pyro decides or is forced to fight head or on a player a few feet away they will probaly die .

also spies are useless when everyone is shooting their team mates because it dose not matter if you shoot a team mate (frendly fire would fix this)

finaly centurise are over powered because of the spy thing.

ps pyroes need stealth to live but they have no stealth tools eg OCTO CAMO.unlike the spy

pps how do you create youe own forums/ threads
