Many of them complain that they "have" to buy it again?

Did they even say PC wouldn't get the same new content?

Is this another one of those things that an insignificant amout of people raged about so in turn it means me and everyone else somehow give a damn also and are filled with rage?

@Dexter111

The developer has already shown, and said he's not good at dealing with the public.
He actually had someone who was supposed to handle that for him, but he apparently fired him for being a "glory hound".

...So what IS the extra content? They don't even know do they, for all they know it could be one useless piece of shit item.

Terraria was fun, I liked it, and I'm glad console users get a chance to play it.

These people need to chill the sugar crusted hell out.

They released what they could have charged full price for again as a 1.1 patch and it was like a second half of the game. So this bitching and moaning needs a curb stomp.

I can't stomach the whole "We made you" line just because a game becomes popular on one system first.
If the game had come out on consoles, they would have "made the game" instead - this argument needs to die.

With that said, I think many people should try and start a new game company before they complain about indie companies going for the easy money, as if it's a bad thing to do.
I've worked with a few small game companies, and getting money to survive is one of the most difficult things to deal with.
If your company is small, and you have few to no hits in your portfolio, you have to do what you must to stay afloat.

Having a successful PC game and then not trying to port it to the vast console market would not only be stupid, it would be downright retarded. Trying to run a company, but not try to sell your game to a huge market? That just makes no sense anywhere.

Personally, I fully expect the new console content to hit the PC as well, i just can't see any reason why it shouldn't.
If it didn't that would be a legitimate point to critizise, but slamming the company for going the easy route with a console port, rather than "taking the high road" and sticking with the pc shows a fundamental lack of understanding what it takes to run a small game studio.

But I understand why they would announce the console version as the first new thing. That'll give them faster financial security, which can then allow them to work on the PC updates.

Wow, you guys are running desperate. You're using a fan wiki over the developers own words to try and win now? Great. :D

But hey, look at my link. The one made my the actual devs.

"In the long term, we will not just be adding content, but new mechanics as well"
"there is still a lot more that we want to do with it"

They didn't do shit and they did promise more content. Of course people are going to be mad if they paid money, got lied to and now the devs are trying to make more cash while still refusing to finish their work.
Sorry my realism trumps your exaggeration. Look at every game within the past twenty years and tell me how many of those games came with everything the developers said it would contain. A couple examples I know off the top of my head at the moment? Bioshock 2 promised you would have only one Big Sister that would be constant through the game. Mass Effect 3 promised that the ending would not be your standard 'pick your ending'. Heck, WoW promised a lot of stuff, like the dance studio to change your racial dance, and that never made it into the game.

There are times where a promise is unachievable because of the base code is unworkable or the implementation will literally break the game. That a cop out? Somewhat, but it's a reason many things "promised" may not have been put into a game.

Relogic's history throughout the game development was not a good one. Of the three guys originally working on it, one left because he hated the community, another left or got fired and disappeared. Leaving just Red to work on the game. And I've been to a bunch of Terraria forums for a while and when all I see are people hating him, the company, and the game no matter what he did, I repeat in saying that when you have a community that hates what you do why bother with the game that community plays?

Red was the only one who worked on the game, the others leaving meant nothing.

Comparing the game to triple A games? It's not realism that your speaking, it's bullshit. Bioshock wasn't released in beta and promised to have many updates with a rough roadmap set out.

The difference is that with BS, you got what you got. Sure they promised shit but if you watched gameplay videos pre launch or hell, read a review. One of BS's selling points wasn't that it would be updated over time.

Finally relogic didn't have a publisher breathing down their necks.

You are grasping at straws. You want reality? How about this? They got their money, they didn't give a shit about their promises once the game peaked and they made off like bandits.
I'm grasping at straws? You're saying Red's a money grubbing liar. I'm saying that it's a one man creator for a game that got very big in a small amount of time. Game development is game development. Triple A or Indie, there are things that cannot and are not able to be implemented due to a variety of factors.

Indie developers are not golden gods of purity. And him selling it while in beta means people bought to be bug testers. The only thing that Red, as a developer, is to make us a game and have it work when it goes live. And that's what he did. A working game that people loved. A lot of people(you included it seems) think he's supposed to be a slave to the game, constantly making new stuff and to never have a life outside of staring at a screen.

I see it as him getting sick of bullshit from the PC gaming community and trying a new community to see if continuing Terraria is still viable. If it thrives on XBL/PSN, then he most likely will return to PC as well. If it dies XBL/PSN or the community becomes a cesspool of disgusting behavior, he may abandon Terraria completely and legitimately let it die.

He is a a money grubbing liar though.

Makes promises, starts to follow through.
Fires his community leader, blue (more cash for red)
promises even more and for a longer timespan
abandons the game
comes back, leaves game abandoned and ports it for a cash grab

So yes, he is a money grubbing liar. I have no doubt about that. I never said they were golden gods of purity or anything but if you're going to promise shit, follow through. They had the funds and the manpower, the could have easily did it.

Now, if Red started working on the PC version again then I wouldn't be annoyed but it's the fact that he is just doing such a blatant cash grab that annoys me.

And if it SOMEHOW was too hard to do then hire some new staff! They have 1.6 million sales of Terraria and the console version is guaranteed to bring in a few hundred thousand, they could easily hire another dev.
First off, the game ranges from $5-$10 depending on Steam. So Steam automatically gets a cut of the profits. Depending on how Microsoft/Sony will act in regards to the amount they take, the amount of money you say Red will make is no where near as high as you think.

Secondly, with behavior like that, why SHOULD he even bother with PC development of Terraria? Promising mean nothing in development.

Thanks OP, I needed my daily fix of facebook comment-section idiocy. While I do feel that some of the anger is justified, I'd be pissed too if someone released a port of a game I was expecting an update for, this is way too far.
They announced the LAST update a very long time ago. Anyone expecting another wasn't paying attention I guess.

OP:This is one of the single saddest things for people to get mad about. As a person who bought Terreria on launch I can say that the game has been PACKED with content and is now a decently different game than it was on launch. The amount of items and features added are large in number. People pissed about not getting an update must not have read the game's website or even seen the news blips on Steam because they announced that there would be no more PC updates last year.

Seriously people should get off their high horse and shoot it for glue to piece their insecure life back together.

Freaking large amounts of snippity
I hope you don't mind me asking this, though I already have a general assumption of the reply I'm going to get based on the posts shown in this thread:

Have you ever given any amount of thought that perhaps, just maybe, the money ran low for the guy while doing projects for the game and by porting it to consoles and getting the money, he not only gets the chance to improve the game on consoles but also for PCs as well, thereby giving fans of both gaming platforms some relevant amount of joy in the process?

Or are you pretty much sticking to condemn him because "how fucking dare he try to make more money on the game without finishing the stuff for the PC that he may, or may not, have had the money for the lying prick"?

God, I need to go to bed.
