heroes of Might and Magic 3. I had no idea what turn-based strategy was. I've yet to find another game I can play for 10 hours straight and not get burned out.

Ninja Blade.

I really shouldn't enjoy it as much as I should... but the dude rides rockets like a fucking surfboard!

The only impulse buy ive ever made was geist for the gamecube. I know not to many people seem to like it but I found it to be incredibly fun. was well worth the 18 or so dollars i paid for it.

Oblivion.

Boy, did that impulse buy change my life...
Agreed on this post. Found it at my local superstore for the PS3 for $20 shortly after it was first released on PS3.

Mass Effect. It was like 10 dollars at a Blockbuster used games sale and having just gotten my 360 I went for it.

It's now in my top 5 games of all time.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2. The game itself might not be the brightest gem around but it introduced me to the wonderful LoK series for which I am grateful.

The House of the Dead: Overkill. I saw it for $5 at a pawn shop when I was buying some old wrestling DVD's and I've had so much fun with that game solo and with someone else. I also have to say Deadly Premonition, I got it as after reading the Destuctoid discussions on it just to see what everyone were both complaining about and praising. If you "get it" you'll find an amazing experience if not you'll find it's one of the worst games of the last decade (I get it, however).

I enjoyed the shit out of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I knew that it was generally loved among the gaming community, but it never looked good to me. And then I found it for $20 and thought "Fuck it, I might as well try it." So I did, and I absolutely loved it.

Gee, what is this game called Beyond Good & Evil? Looks interesting, and it's very cheap. I'll give it a go...

*A few hours of playtime later*

Medieval Total War 2

I was like " I have 20 bucks, its 20 bucks, lets go for it"

12 days of playtime in less then 3 months says I enjoyed it a little to much.

I bought Tropico as an afterthought because I was getting bored of Civ3 (I still think 3's the weakest game in the Civ series). Turned out to be a top-five all-time classic.

Mass Effect.

I'm not a fan of RPGs so the RPG element it had and the footage I saw of it didn't really interest me. I saw it one day rather cheaply and remember it getting great reviews so I said why not try something different? It now sits humbly in my top 10 games list, by far one of the best purchaces I've made.
Seems you and I had our eyes opened to Mass Effect in the same way. I don't mind RPGs but i didn't seem to care much for Mass Effect when it was being advertised and all. But eventually i saw it on the shelf, and said what the hell. Probably one of the smartest purchases i've made in my short time on this earth. Mass Effect by far will go down as one of the best games i've ever played along we ME 2 and almost guaranteed Mass Effect 3

Rome: Total War, I saw it and thought "what the hell, never played a roman RTS"

I have clocked in over 300 hours on that game, and has a special place in my heart for introducing me to the total war series.
i'd have to agree with you... Rome: Total War totally rocked me into the Glory of the Roman Empire !
