I strolled down to my local video game store roughly 12 years ago to look at the used bin and saw Xenogears lying around. It was steep; $40, being an import and all. I wasn't immediately taken in by the anime style, but I decided to give it a go, seeing as it was by the same people who had made Final Fantasy VI & VII, two of my favourite games at the time. I brought it home, put in the first disc and... nothing. Little did I know that my European machine wasn't compatible with an american disc. With the SNES I understood it, since the cartridges were physically incompatible with the slot. But a CD? Pfft... I marched back, hellfire blazing in my eyes. The dude behind the counter apologised for not warning me (gracious, huh?) and offered to chip my machine as compensation.
Not only did Xenogears turn out to be the best gaming experience I've EVER had, but suddenly I could also play imported games. Sweeeeeet...
