I rarely ever talk when I'm dissapointed/angry. So I never do this. Also, being gay, it would be somewhat odd.

Edit: Oh, and as an alternative, "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW...."

Trained myself out of saying that when I was about 13. Haven't used it since. It's not it's hard to avoid using it.

I also avoid using "Retarded." Oh... dammit.

Words can have more than one meaning. It's fine to use "it's gay". Most gay people are fine with it because they realize that there's no offense to be taken. In fact, some gay people use the expression, themselves.

Anyway, I always say "that's lame".

I say gay all the time.

If you're old enough to find the word "gay" offensive, you're old enough to know that it has more than one meaning(hell, more than two meanings), and old enough to understand the difference between them.

Eh, I do. And why not? Nobody cares, it's pretty much the norm here.
I have friends that are gay, and they say it.

Really, if you get offended, it's time to man up.

I just use the classic shit or fuck.

Or if I don't feel like cursing I'll say "That's just evil"

I've called the vending machine in my University's main foyer evil many times, I swear that thing has a personal grudge against me, it just never works as in the item I want always gets stuck.

Yet I've seen it work plenty of times for other people when walking past.

I tend to use the phrases "Fuck off." (Sometimes with an "Aawww" in front of it, thanks to lewism247), and "Fuckin' hell." when something unexpected happens, or I die in a game, though I never say it in a chat or voicechat, just saying it to myself. :)

"Bugger" or "Bollocks" is what I use for such moments. They sound better anyway. :3

I thought gay meant happy.

Anyway i don't swear in english and neither do i use the equivalent of "that's gay" in estonian.
A simple "Fuck" is what i'd go for, though.

"that's gay" could mean "that's happy" if you check the meanings of "gay" in a dictionary or something... I find it odd...

Typing the last letter of a text, phone battery runs out.

Go look for keys to shed in house for half an hour, in pocket the whole time.

Buy something from vending machine, it doesn't come out.

When stuff like this happens, I (and many others) are only too quick to use the slang "that's gay". I don't like it. I wish that I didn't.

Nobody means gay 'gay', we mean irritating 'gay' - but it still gets to me that I should use this expression on instinct.

So, escapist, what sort of substitutes do you have, and more importantly, how would you go about integrating them into your reflex vocabulary?
Wow, seriously? I didn't know you Americans had it THAT bad with that particular expression... I mean, I knew you'd use it often to describe irritating things... but definetely NOT vending machines stealing your money.... I learned something today XD

I don't want to come of as a jerk, but a lot of things have potentially offensive roots. Idiot and Moron were both terms for the mentally retarded. Dumb is a term for people who can't speak and lame is for people who can't walk. Gypped is generally considered to have been derived from Gypsy. Hocus Pocus is believed to have originated as a mockery of the blessing of the Eucharist performed by Catholics. I don't think of gay as any different then any of those words, so I have no problem saying it, especially because I personally know a number of gays who say it. That said I have heard people use it in a homophobic way and that bothers me.

When you say "That's gay" slow down and extend it to a decent sentence:
"That's gehhhh-tting on my nerves."
