The equivelant to Gamestop in the UK is GAME.

After they got my copy of Deus Ex: HR to me 4 days late, I decided to take my business somewhere else.
Gamestation is where it's at order online and you get it at least one day early, play it first guarantee, although Game and Gamestation are owned by the same company.
I don't go to either I'm a HMV man the best trade in prices ever.
Those guys are suckers, it's hilarious. They once bought silent hill homecoming from me for £17. I thought "good luck getting a profit on that, guys!" and ran off giggling maniacly with red dead redemption on launch.

I've never had any problems with GAME, but I think it can vary from store to store.

I hate the patronizing staff in Gamestation that try to groom you if you are young. I'm 14 and every time I go in there they're all
"Alright mate, can I help you find anything?"
"No thanks, I'm fine."
"Ok, give me a shout if you need anything mate"
The same dialog EVERY FUCKING TIME. And I live in a pretty small town, plus I'm a pretty distinctive character.
Also
I go to the counter to buy Crysis.
"Alright mate, are you sure your computer can run this mate?"
"Yeah, I've just upgraded to a dual core i5"
"*Wince* It says you need a 3 dot zero gb processor for this mate.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
I always get the one guy that won't sell pegi ratings without ID. I used to nuy 16+ games all the time when I was 11 and when I'm 15 I get ID.
They are quite patronizing, also their always trying to be your friend.
Right, in fairness I don't know about the States but in the UK selling someone who is underage a game/film nets you a fine in the thousands and a mark on your criminal record. Yeah it counts as a criminal offence, you won't be hired in retail again and will be immediately dismissed from your current job. It's FAR worse than selling underagers alcohol. So, I'm with the guy IDing you.

I used to like ShopTo.net but they've been getting worse imo, Amazon and other online stores are better now. Online tends to outclass everyone else.

HMV is good for trade in but not for prices, so you might get more credit but the games will cost more (I used to work there) so it's worth looking around to see where the game(s) you want is/are cheapest too. Online tends to win out...

I know right, Gamestop suck. Whenever I ask them for Battletoads they just rage at me. So unhelpful.

Okay, it is official. I am done with Gamestop. They have screwed me over for the last friggin' time. I ordered the Gears of War 3 epic edition and retro lancer months ago when they said they still have them. They took my order. They took my money.

Couple of days ago,I got an email from them saying that they can no longer process my order and dropped it. No, I didn't get a refund either and they are not responding to me when trying to contact them.

This is the 5th time they screwed me over in a row. People have tried telling me Gamestop is honest and stuff, but from my perspective they treated me like crap. I can't even tell you all the stories I had with this company and I am getting problems every time I go to this place.

I tried giving them chances, but I am tired of it. I am ordering from Amazon from now on. I don't care if I have to wait a few more days for my stuff to ship
Welcome brother, I hope you may find a more fulfillment gaming lifestyle without the evils of paying for pre-orders, getting free release-date delivery(sometimes sooner), mysterious credits to go towards your next game purchase and all the perks of the brotherhood of amazon has to offer you.(Just be wary of the sometime evil delivery companies)

I use them when I have cash only.

I got a fifty dollar bill for a pre ordered Skyrim. I doubt they'll be able to fuck that up.

I've had bad luck with gamestop, and considering that I keep giving them more chances.... I really don't know what to say anymore. let me explain. I live in silicon valley, about a mile from the regional headquarters store, and let's be perfectly honest FUCK anybody that thinks they have the selection, every store has 1-5 games you might like, but every single inventory is different. and counting off of my head, there's blossom hill rd., oakridge, eastridge, 'the great mall', tully road and branahm rd., as well as three more on san carlos/stevens creek road. NINE FUCKING GAMESTOPS AND THEY ALL SUCK, PLUS there ISN'T any other place to buy used games except the old record shops, which are entirely too hard to find.

I haven't traded in a game since the gamecube was still $150, but my expansive game library is almost completely composed of used games from gamestop. There are two reasons for this: ps3/360 games aren't what they used to be, and ps2 games are dirt cheap. That said, games are SUCH poor quality from gamestop that I literally have two to three, and in one particular case, FOUR copies of one game (Mercinaries: playground of distruction, the best sandbox ever), my reasoning that I don't want to be hunting for them like condoms at a furry convention when the inevitably fail *again*.

Sure, I support developers when a game I like comes out, I've got a copy of mirror's edge for both ps3 and the console I *don't* own, I've got three copies of portal 2, and I fucking *POUNCED* on metal gear solid 4 when it was released, but for developers like naughty dog that don't even really exist anymore, I can't do much :-/

Long story short, I'll continue to pick through the ps2 bin at gamestop for a little while longer, but I don't intend to ever buy a new game there again. I'm nearly 50% steampowered now, with a staggering 187 titles in my library on there, a shame my Ubuntu-powered machine can't even run minecraft without overheating.

ps: my game collection has a value of well over $3,000; I have a decent stake in which stores stay in business.

pps: thanks to Solo-Wing for the enlightening videos

In Australia, our version of Gamestop is Electronics Boutique, which is called EB. Not only have EB games sold me the wrong game (they gave me Crysis, but inside the box was Crysis Warhead), but they have also sold me pre-owned games as new. I bought Resistance 2 for the price of a "new" copy, then I get home, peel off the price sticker and whadda ya know: The price tag was covering up the "Pre-owned" sticker. The manual had pages missing and the disc was scratched (it still worked though). It was clearly a pre-owned game, and they sold it to me as a new copy, charged me the same as a new copy. I never shop at EB anymore. I get all my stuff from Play-Asia or Dick Smith Electronics.

I almost don't trust any Games Retail Store in my city. GAME (equivelant to Gamestop) have screwed me with their point system promises stating their trades would beat any trade-in in the area. I checked around and compared the prices and their point system's apparent cost in exchange would come to roughly 50% more than what I could trade in any of the others so I did it, putting the points on a card they gave me. Coming back later to purchase a game I find out that the points I had gotten from them were worth no where near the amount and I couldn't even purchase an OLD second-hand game. I was furious, spoke to the manager (the same man that traded my games for the points) and he stated that I must have been confused with what they were saying (I wasn't) and there is nothing they can do about it. That's about £40 down the drain.

CEX, another shop in the area, are a second hand game retailer with an apparent exceptional trade-in and customer service. I have bought games from there a numerous amount of times that don't even work or (because of their ridiculous filing system, literally chucked in a pile in sleeves) the games are confused and when, let's say, I purchase Gears of War I get the completely wrong game that is probably even for Playstation 1. Also when I return to complain they check their database, assuming it is me trying to con them out of a game. Their incompetence and lack of respect for the customer frustrates me to the point of violence!

And finally Gamestation, another store of con-artists, all greeting with welcoming hands only to cut yours off when you purchase one of their "special" products. When you begin to get a subscription they ask you your details, fair enough, you give them your house address and your name and it's all done. This, I expect would be for postage and packaging so there are no CONFUSIONS. I have pre-ordered a few games from them (regrettably Final Fantasy XIII being one of them) and a few times my product has gotten "lost in the post" so I got to complain or at least find out what's wrong. Every time I went they said the same thing "your oder should come eventually", it took weeks, so I came back and asked for a refund, since I didn't think it would ever get to me and I didn't want them to continue their service. They refused. It took weeks before I ever got my games and I felt like I was just another pile of shit they can make money from. Never going there again.

I've probably just got bad luck but I'm gonna stick Amazon and Play from now on. I have never had anything go wrong with their services. Touch wood.
Well, in case you didn't know Gamestation is owned by GAME. So yeah, unless you go to some local games shop (of which there are none in the area) or somewhere like HMV which really only sells games on the side, you will have to deal with GAME's overall shittiness.

Well, that or Steam or Amazon. Both of which are much better options.

I'm sorry but you are moron. Taking your business somewhere else is the best thing you can do as a gamer and a consumer. I am assuming you complained because you seem very good at that. I also assume at some point you said, I am taking my business somewhere else. This is not how you conduct a business. I intend to make my displeasure known to whoever is in charge and not whoever is just in charge of the store.
Okay, so I am a moron because they screwed me over? Right, I'll remember that. Let's practice this very logic in every day life. My uncle was in the hospital for heart surgery and the hospital nearly killed him due to malpractice. Should my uncle have not sued because "he was the moron that didn't go the right hospital?" Yeah, my example is a bit radical, but do you see how stupid this whole "It's the customers fault because they shopped there" logic goes? You're basically saying the business itself has no responsibility over their actions or their employees and should not be held accountable.

You assume I didn't complain to the manager or right reports on said individual store and I did. I didn't just rage in their face and walk out like most idiots on parade and then come on here like a troll in central park wanting his fix. Do not think me coy or stupid.

Pointless raging? You wouldn't be saying that if you were in my shoes and no, don't give me this crap you wouldn't because I have seen people complain for less reasons than I have and chances are you have complained about something to some service company.

The ONE Gamestop I like at my college was actually cool because the guy told me "I treat customers the way I wanted to be treated. I shop at Gamestop and know exactly how some employees suck at being good business men." Here is where you ask me "Why didn't you shop there then?"

The reason is I live four hours away from that Gamestop. At the time when I was living in that neighborhood, it was a 20 minute walk at most. Now I live somewhere else. You can piece the rest from here. This is why I didn't stop shopping at Gamestop because I know stores are individualized, but when the corporate fucks you over then you have a problem.

I find it funny how people say I am a moron, but still shop at Gamestop themselves despite them going through similar incidents (not really the retro lancer incident.) That's their/your choice and I won't fault you for that.

I find it funny that half of you are calling me the moron saying I shouldn't shop there yet ALSO say that I shouldn't let small incidents like not getting my pre-order code get to me. Which it didn't. If I got the code without problem then there will be no arguments and I got what I wanted and that's it. I shop there again. It's the big stuff that gets to me. The important stuff that gets to me. Notice in the OP, I didn't mention the other lesser incidents, but made a point that this was the 5th time I had to go through problems.

I find it funny that some of you call people idiots for not getting the services that should be expected yet complain when it happens to you. Bullshit, if you say you don't. If you don't complain when getting shitty service, then who is the real moron?

Here is one little detail some of you forget. The stores have their own individuality and as such as in charge of their own employees which I did complain about shitty service at the one. The other two are not so bad, and actually help me out, but they are not the ones I am mad at.

The website is the CORPORATE website and as such are responsible for it. If the main headquarters screws me over, then that is one tick against them.

And no the situation is NOT exaggerated. If I don't hear from Gamestop by today about them returning my money, then we will have legal issues. If they play ball, then everything will be cool. I am not shopping there anymore after this because I am tired of dealing with it every time I walk in a store or order from their website. I may go to the one that is awesome if it stays that way, but this will be rare.

To some of you posters who called me the moron for still shopping at Gamestop, you will still be calling me a moron if I came in here raging about how I didn't get my Gamestop pre-order bonus. This is nothing about that. This is why I didn't make a big deal out of those incidents because those got resolved. Like I said, I didn't shop at the corrupted one anymore and decided to go to the others since as others say "EACH GAMESTOP IS DIFFERENT." This is also why I kept shopping there for a little while because of this fact. (Again, you will call me a moron regardless, but remember your logic is double-sided. First rule of business "The customer is always right." I know what this means. Do you? And I am not talking about childish complaints about stupid things.)

I hope those same people mentioned above go to a store or business and try to get services from them and if you complain, I will slap you with your own logic. "Just don't shop there. You're the moron."

To those who actually sympathize with me whether you went through the same thing or not, I will get this matter resolved one way or another and thanks for your support.

Otherwise, I'm done here.

Seems like a huge problem, escalate it above the local store talk to the regional guys and keep going up if you are still unhappy, let them know you will be complaining to the BBB or like organization if you are still unsatisfied.

Question: Does Walmart have a preorder system? Are they reliable?
That would be a funny, self-induced irony.
"Gamestop are bastards. I'm taking my business to the company with proven reputation of abusing it's workers."

OT: Keep at it. Games are too expensive to let that slide. I enjoy going to Gamestop though. The workers are almost always gamers. So we always end up doing a whole lot of talking about upcoming titles or w/e.

Well I think he made it just so he can vent. He keeps quoting people who call him a moron for letting himself get screwed over five times and flying off the handle at them.

I'm pretty sure it's the same deal as GAME - they're supposed to say it for every PC game they sell - it's just to cover their backs really, so customers can't complain they weren't informed to check the specs. Yeah, people don't check.

Also some older games don't work under Win7... despite being still available lol.

In the States, it is legitimate, but retailers don't really want to be caught doing it, as the various parental groups come out and complain about it.
I'm a UK person, so I'm used to it being a legal thing too :p Personally, I think that games should have age ratings, with the 18 one being legally enforceable.
