Where I live in Canada it's EB Games, a subsidiary of Gamestop. I've never had anything bad happen to me, yet I always hear horror stories about Gamestop over the internet.
Yeah same here. Heck recently I managed to pick up some much needed games for my ps2 collection, not a scratch on them for like 8 bucks.

3 great games. 8 whole dollars. I love Canada.

Last time I checked, what you're describing here is theft, which is punishable by law. If I were you I'd call the cops.

The equivelant to Gamestop in the UK is GAME.

After they got my copy of Deus Ex: HR to me 4 days late, I decided to take my business somewhere else.
Personally I prefer GAME over GameStop.

Well, I did. Back when we still had GAME stores here. They went out of business after GameStop moved in.

Now, personally I'm dealing with Deep Silver's support right now, since GameStop failed to supply me with the pre-order bonuses that were supposed to be included in the Dead Island "Special Editon". The game I got wasn't very "special" at all.

Well, I live in Australia, so I do most of my game buying through ozgameshop (.com).
There's some seriously good prices there, too; like Skyrim - $43 on the website with free delivery + cloth map, and $90 on Steam for a digital copy only. Now I'm sounding like a sales pitch.

But anyway, Gamestop does sound pretty bad from what I've heard about it.

Can't you complain to some consumer protection board or does it say they can do it in some contract or something :S I mostly use steam and I almost never pre-order. If I do buy a game from EB-games then it is because I am getting it for PS3 and I will go to another store if they don't have it on the shelves.

Im picky about which gamestop location i use now. Some of them are okay and some have employees that are dumb as rocks.

I have had a great track record with Game, not sure what's so bad about them. The only problem with them recently is going into their store and seeing the PC Dead Island normal edition costing £40. £40! What happened to the normal PC games costing around £24-£30, just like in every other store? Hell, most PC games are £24 on the Game WEBSITE but not the store. I had the same experience with Gamestation.

O.T. Thank god Gamestop never made it over the sea to us. I couldn't stand a company as blatantly arrogant as that. Game do slip up occasionally, but they at least have a pretence of honesty.

Mine was 6 days late, I couldn't even get through to their customer service line on the phone and when it finally did arrive the packaging was awful - I bought the Augmented Edition the comic was completely squashed and looked terrible.

You only need to look at the Game facebook page to see the hundreds of horror stories that are happening right now. I'm hoping it will all blow over by the time my GoW3 Limited Edition Xbox is supposed to arrive (I couldn't find it anywhere else), if not to Amazon I go in future.

I've never had a problem buying from CEX but they aren't the cheapest any more for games, our local Gamestation is. Replay is also worth a look for second hand games

It's odd, I've never had an issue with GameStop personally. The only time I haven't gotten a game I wanted was when they were out of Borderlands and at the time I hadn't looked up the game and then realized it was out that day so I tried to pick up a copy, they were out and got more the next day and gave me a call.

My only complaint is how pricy things tend to stay. I can usually hit up Amazon or Steam and get a better deal some way or another.

I hate the patronizing staff in Gamestation that try to groom you if you are young. I'm 14 and every time I go in there they're all
"Alright mate, can I help you find anything?"
"No thanks, I'm fine."
"Ok, give me a shout if you need anything mate"
The same dialog EVERY FUCKING TIME. And I live in a pretty small town, plus I'm a pretty distinctive character.
Also
I go to the counter to buy Crysis.
"Alright mate, are you sure your computer can run this mate?"
"Yeah, I've just upgraded to a dual core i5"
"*Wince* It says you need a 3 dot zero gb processor for this mate.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
I always get the one guy that won't sell pegi ratings without ID. I used to nuy 16+ games all the time when I was 11 and when I'm 15 I get ID.
They are quite patronizing, also their always trying to be your friend.
Right, in fairness I don't know about the States but in the UK selling someone who is underage a game/film nets you a fine in the thousands and a mark on your criminal record. Yeah it counts as a criminal offence, you won't be hired in retail again and will be immediately dismissed from your current job. It's FAR worse than selling underagers alcohol. So, I'm with the guy IDing you.

I used to like ShopTo.net but they've been getting worse imo, Amazon and other online stores are better now. Online tends to outclass everyone else.

HMV is good for trade in but not for prices, so you might get more credit but the games will cost more (I used to work there) so it's worth looking around to see where the game(s) you want is/are cheapest too. Online tends to win out...
PEGI Ratings are the black and white ones on the back, they are recommendations. They are not legally binding. The red and white circle ones are, however. stuff that gets a 12 gets 16+ easily in PEGI numbers.

Man, Gamestop just doesn't get any love anymore, huh?

Truth be told, The one I go to is great. Then again, about four of my friends work at that store, and they've helped me out numerous times. The one time my 360 red-ringed, one of them traded me that for a refurbished model and put the broken one in the refurbished box, marked it defective and sent it to be re-refurbished. I didn't pay a cent.

So, yeah, I have no opinion one way or the other on Gamestop itself, but at least 4 of it's employees are awesome.

The joys of being friends with the owner of a GameStop. I never get screwed. Infact, even when I didn't preorder Dead Island quick enough to get the limited edition one with the Ripper and Bloodbath Arena, she game me the spare copy they had anyway. :3

Sometimes I really hate the guys at my gamestop, I also work right next to them. But the times I go in there, and have a nice chat make it up as they have yet to royally screw me over...other than making mistakes with selling me the wrong game despite me making sure it was right I just wish they weren't so underpaid so they would actually care.

Maybe it was because it was Gears of War, the brownest game ever made in a sea of brown games?

Jokes aside, yeah, Gamestop is crap. At least here, they consistently put used games up in front of new ones to get a bigger profit.

Actually they will give you their money back OP. They have to.

It sounds like you are stretching the facts in order to make your situation seem worse.

This is the 5th time they screwed me over in a row. People have tried telling me Gamestop is honest and stuff, but from my perspective they treated me like crap. I can't even tell you all the stories I had with this company and I am getting problems every time I go to this place.

I tried giving them chances, but I am tired of it. I am ordering from Amazon from now on. I don't care if I have to wait a few more days for my stuff to ship
Yea. I think you?ve been patient enough with them. I?ve only been able to find one Gamestop in the whole NYC area that I can shop at without wanting to leisurely beat the clerk to death with a wiffle ball bat. It?s sad because there?s one about 3 blocks from my house but they are completely useless AND really obnoxious about it.
They never robbed me though. THAT you should call the police about. Not 911, just dial the local precinct.

This oh so much. Things are so bad I'm actually going to return my copy of Space Marine when it arrives. Rude and generally shit customer service loses customers. Having said that though, Play.com isn't much better...

Let me preface this by saying that I realize I am in part to blame here. Should have done my research.

A year or two ago I managed to kick my MMO addiction. Knowing that I'd need an outlet, I finally decided to turn to console gaming. I had a Wii and had played the consoles of my childhood (GameCube, snes, n64, ps1, etc.), but nothing srsbsns. I go into GameStop, explain that I'm interested in a console, have a budget, etc etc. Long story short, I walked out with a refurb black xbox.

I shit you not like a week later the Elite was released. It was almost the exact same price new as what I had purchased.

Now I content myself with trolling GameStop employees, and by trolling I mean I walk into the store and ask them simple questions about games. Usually I get "i don't know" within one or two questions.
