First the bastards take away his fire, than they give him Elijah Wood's voice, than they turn him Gothic, and then they erase the ENTIRE Spyro time line to squeeze another sequel out of the game, but DAMMIT THIS IS TOO FAR!
I am of course, talking about Spyro the dragon.
For those of you who don't know, Spyro was a beloved little purple dragon who could breathe fire, who had a total of 3 games on the original Playstation. The games were then, and still are now, beloved by many, and are actively considered classic Playstation games, along with one of the greatest game series of all time.
Until the PS2 came around.
After the original developer studio Insomniac began pumping out the "Ratchet and Clank" series, (another very excellent game series) they had no time for poor little Spyro any more. So Insomniac transfered the rights to the game to Equinox Digital Entertainment and Check Six Studios. After Equinox and Check Six made Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly the game rights were transfered around quite a bit, finally coming to a stopping point at developer Etranges Libellules.
So, now that you know all of that, you can finally hear why the developers' rights were transfered around so much: Because everyone else fucked Spyro up.
As soon as the developers rights were released from Insomniac, Spyro went down hill. Fast.
So down hill, that Spyro had gone from a critically acclaimed classic: ([link]http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/spyroyearofthedragon[/link])
To a universally despised sellout: ([link]http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/cube/spyroenterthedragonfly?q=spyro[/link])
And now, I have just made the unfortunate mistake of typing "Spyro the Dragon" into Google.
Look what I found.
I thought to myself, "This can't possibly be real!"
So I Wiki'd it. Well, guess what? It is real.
As it turns out, in 2007, Wonderworld Studios bought the rights to an Animated Spyro movie.
[HEADING=3]NOOOOOOO!!!![/HEADING]
Who will help Spyro now? WHY SPYRO!?!?
WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS TO YOU!?!?!
BUT WAIT!
Just in time, publishing company Activision interfered with the project, and the entire movie pulled the plug. For once, Activision actually paid its' respects to its' work.
Well, although Spyro has gone down a rocky path, I hope that someday he will be returned to his former glory!
And maybe, just maybe, he'll finally get that great game that he deserves.
Just... look... away... Agh! It's horrible what they've done to what was once my favorite series of all-time! I can't even stand looking at the new dragon anymore without spouting off a long, nostalgia-fueled rant!
But, as God as my witness, if I ever become a part of the video game industry, and scrounge up enough money to buy this series back, I swear that I will get the rights for it and save my beloved childhood memories!
Insomniac, get your hands back on this series. Please. Everyone else just can not seem to get this right. Abort the reboot arc, and give us back the storyline that we love(d).
No further Spyro games will enter my consoles unless they are made by Insomniac.
And this upcoming movie: Oh god please no! Hasn't this franchise suffered enough???
Well having never actually played any of the Spyro titles I shall be the positive one in this thread. How dare you condemn it to living the life of a shunned and undernourished movie based on a game based on a sequel of a sequel of a sequel of a (by all accounts good) original!
You haven't even given the film a chance. You have yet to see any trailers for heaven's sake. Ok sure it was made by the same glue sniffing cretins responsible for the Eragon movie but that doesn't mean it has to be bad, right?
... actually, you have a point... I read the book and saw the movie, the movie was better. Because I didn't have to read it, and the dragon was pretty awesome to look at.
i can say that i do (to the best of my knowledge) still own all the spyro games and i remember the good old day of my ps1.....wonder if it still works. back on topic the movie could be good chances are i wont see it
Lets bow our heads in silence for the death of our beloved purple dragon. Farewell Spyro, Rest In Peace, You will be missed.
Actually Spyro has been dead ever since Insomniac stop making his games, He was part of my childhood and I loved all 3 games that came out on the PS, but he has been through a lot these past years, and it pains me to say this but I think its time to let him go and let him die in peace.
But I hope one day Insomniac will make another Spyro game. . . But I can dream, can't I.
Gentlemen and Ladies! Fear not, for your childhoods may yet remain intact! Well, from the horrors of a Spyro Movie, in any case, not so much the remakes - They can never be undone.
Tangents aside, look and be merry:

The Movie is no more!
Anywho, loved the first three games (my first encounter with gaming) - Hated, but nevertheless carried on playing the rest.
God damn I loved the originals, 2 probably being the best followed by Ripto's Rage and the original and I'm probably going to get flamed out the arse for it but I started playing the reboot trilogy at a friends and while a bit boring they are considerably better than say Enter the Dragonfly or Season of the Ice. Though why they thought David Spade as Sparx was good idea I'll never know.
Funny since I commented on this EXACT topic in another forum... *Cries and falls over and curls into a ball*
The series was absolute GOLD with the first three. The first one had the interesting levels and hilarious enemies (who doesnt remember getting mooned in peace keepers world?) The second one was a personal favorite, so much to explore and the made the difficulty just perfect.. And nothing was at all boring... The third one was awesome as well.. Then I played year of the dragonfly and felt like my heart was going to collapse and die.. I havent touched another game from the series since..
And now they're making a movie?! What have you done to our cute little Spyro?! D: Bastards... Seriously they're doing to spyro what sega has been doing to Sonic..
Dammit, I literally have a lot of memories attatched to these games.
I only ever had the pirated version of 3, meaning that it continually fucked up my progress, by sending me to the wrong level, deleting eggs, disabling the Start button, stuff like that.
But I was continually trying to find ways around it. I would soldier on hours into the evening, waiting for the Start button to function so I could save the game, trying to get into the right world without my eggs being deleted.
Because I loved it. It was an absolutely incredible game.
