Final Fantasy X had a very good ending. Call of Duty 4 does rival FFX because of the song at the end, but more importantly, the bonus mission.
I very much agree, with the COD4 bit, at least. The ending has gotten a bit of a beating for being either irrelevant or superfluous, but I quite frankly enjoyed the chance to do a little more close-quarters combat set to a rousing score. I liken it to the rather cheap trick action movie directors pull off, where the main hero has an "AWESOME" moment at the very end that makes everyone in the audience, already high off the adrenaline, go "hellz yeah." It's cheap, but it works, and it made me happy.

That being said, my favorite ending to a videogame is God of War, mainly because I'm part Greek and I enjoyed watching Kratos saunter up to the warthrone and claim his place in the Olympic Pantheon.

Since we have all ranted about how some games endings sucked royally, why don't we talk about the best ending to a game ever.
While we're at it, let's remember when and where to use question marks. At the end of questions for example.
I second that.

Best ending I've seen so far would have to be that of EP2, which is the closest a game has moved me to actual emotion.

I liked Halo 3's ending, it was very sad. (even though I didn't like the flood sections - I have never liked the flood sections in any of the Halo games, apart from the driving bits at the and of 1 and 3. I also liked all the throwbacks to the first game in Halo 3

Also Jade Empire, can't remember much about it cos it was a while ago now, but i remember it being pretty great.

I liked The Darkness' ending too. Despite what Yahtzee said the rest of the game was good in my opinion.

I liked the endings to all the Brothers In Arms games so far, hopefully the third will be worth the wait. I hate the way they delayed it nearly a YEAR!

To be honest (still being a young and green gamer) I don't think I've played enough games to actually run into half decent ending. They've all got loose ends and between my two favorite games at the moment (Jak II and Okami) I take some major issues... like Okami leaving themselves wide open for a sequel and doing nothing with it. All they did was re-release for the Wii and as great as actually handling the paint brush is, jerking the wiimote for several hours tends to make carpal tunnel syndrom act up leaving my hand clutched on the controls in some strange death grip.

Got a little off topic there... Sorry. >.< I think the only game ending I was ever happy with was probably (and I know how retarded this sounds) Zelda: Ocerinea (I know I can't spell) of Time. Why was I happy with it? We freakin got rid of Navi. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who hated that fariy. Stupid reason to like an ending, I know... but hey, it made me happy.

Tiger Jacksons Tekken 3 ending > Click! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dic87DDC7Qs&feature=related]

Not because of substance but more that I find it funny

The endings of both Max Payne and 2
The sequence prior the final boss in MGS2 (the ending was very generic for me)
MGS3's ending.
I liked Deus Ex's story but the endings were uninteresting.

I guess mine would be Tekken 4. Jin's love for his mother preventing him from delivering a final hateful blow to Heihachi's scrotum brought tears to my eyes...

Having just finished it again, I'm gonna have to say Grim Fandango. As a conclusion to one of the most original and devious games ever made, Schafer had to go for the heartstrings with the ending.

Having splatted Hector and having worked through an immeasurably satisfying series of puzzles leading to his demise you get the heart wrenching scene of Manny saying goodbye to Glottis. As Manny walks through the coach, all those that had previously insulted him waves with happiness at finally getting their ticket to the underworld that they deserved, before riding the train to eternal rest.

God I love that game.

The final driving bit in Halo 3 was pretty awesome. The end of Half Life 2 was great because it was just so sudden, and you'd totally forgotten about the G-Man by that point.

Final Fantasy X for me. It wasn't so much the dialogue or the parting of the ways (even though I'd followed these people for 60+ hours), but the music. Absolutely epic, and perfectly fitting, and as soon as the scene ended I went straight onto Amazon and ordered the soundtrack. Just beautiful.

MGS4.

When Big Boss said "This is nice, isin't it?" and died a couple seconds after, I almost cried.

Halo 3. Yeah, I know. It's not what any of the cool alternative kids would say, but whatever. I liked it.
Amen.
I agree!

I thought it was a great ending. Since the conflict is over there's no need for master chief, who was "born" for the conflict in the first game. He doesn't belong in a time of peace, and is put to rest with the only person he could have a relationship with, Cortana, guarding over his body, drifting through the endless space, ready to be revived if ever called upon. Not that I think it will ever happen, since he's floating around in space, but he's still a sort of "guardian" over humanity or something.

It reminds me of a "myth" here in my country. It is said that if we're ever invaded, the statue of a great king located under one of the castles, will waken and defend the country against the invaders. Never gonna happen, but pretty cool myth anyway.
Are you from England and refering to the myth of King Arthur sleeping at Avalon until he's "needed?" Yeah, that is among the better myths. You know, in StarGate Merlin was an Ancient and he taught King Arthur to Ascend so it could be true (in the StarGate universe).

I don't mean to spoil this for you (like this is a thread for people concerned with spoilers), but in the Legendary ending Master Chief's half of Forward Unto Dawn is shown drifting very close to a planet covered in light patterns reminiscent of Forerunner symbols.

Also, I agree with the three of you. Among my admittedly limited experience Halo 3's ending is my favorite, the other two have pretty good endings too.

Honorable mention to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. That casual wave really made an impression.

And because we're talking about endings, I just beat Super Mario Galaxy. Ending was nothing special, great final boss though.

-twitch twitch- You liked that ending? I was so mad that they left it open for another game yet there's no rumors of them DOING anything with it.
