I'm an English-accented guy, with English parents, and I grew up in Scotland so naturaly I've had to take shit because of being labeled as English.antiwheat said:Okay, they certainly are nothing like the BNP but as a person with English parents I think some of the things Alex Salmond says are downright racist. Scottish being discrimitory against English is still racism and it sickens me how people think this is okay. If any of the things he said were aimed at Muslims or people of other ethnicities he would be shouted down but because it is English people, it's totally fine.Captain Pancake said:I still don't support them, and I think they have made some bogus decisions, but I think it has to be made clear that they are in no way affiliated with the BNP.
One thing I remember him saying was when somebody asked who he'd back in a football cup, he said something along the lines of "If anyone but England wins, I'll be happy". This may seem like a harmless enough remark but when our leader constantly speaks bull like this, I find the people are more willing to believe it. I meet loads of otherwise great, intelligent people who say they hate the English yet when asked what for or whether they've actually met an English person, more often than not they tend to shut up.
But the overwhelming majority of Scots arn't really serious about hating English people, it's more a card that assholes will pull on you if they don't like you in the first place.
As an English person living in Scotland you just need to learn to take a joke, don't be so butthurt about it, and don't take it as racism.
