Curse you Youtube, offering High Definition these days! And I agree. The only part that worried me was the gameplay: it looked... off somehow. But maybe I'm just seeing things. The dialouge at least was awesome to listen to.

I'm giving Sony the win. Sure their conference was the most... unfocused (what with all the video montages and the meandering between figures and announcements)... but I think they certainly had the most impressive line-up.

Sony's lineup was certainly the most energetic and, frankly, surprising. I don't even care for the FF series, but I'll be damned if seeing the fourteenth installment so soon didn't blow me away. I also like how they're pushing the PSP, even going so far as to create a Hannah Montana bundle for teenage girls. Sure, it's a cheap jab at a new audience, but at least it's something. ModNation Racers also looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and their work with motion sensing technology is quite impressive. I'm tempted to write it off as a cash in on Nintendo's method, but the future is the future. To coin a phrase from an ancient marketing campaign, "Get N or get out."
Speaking of Nintendo, it's become increasingly clear that they're not only doing their own unique thing, but doing it well enough that nothing else matters. I'm not going to be stupid and say that Nintendo isn't in the current generation console race (they are. Deal with it), but I will say that they're relying on a completely different market. They know that they can toss out a Mario or a Metroid (good call on the latter, by the way) every now and then and effectively sate the die-hards, but their focus is squarely on a new audience. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though. With such a large install base, they're desirable to more developers looking to entertain some new ideas. So while third party exclusive titles highlighted weren't revelations (The Conduit, Dead Space: Extraction, RE: Darkside Chronicles), it paves the way for other third parties to follow suit. I'm also eager to see what Retro is up to since Team Ninja has taken over Metroid. Really, it's just nice to see third parties actually embrace the Wii.
This brings me to Microsoft, which I will admit I thought had the worst offering. Well, maybe that's too strong a word. Aside from Project Natal, the XBLA content, and Alan Wake, all their new games are sequels/new installments in previously well established franchises. Sure they'll make a killing, but it's nothing new. I don't own a 360, and Microsoft hasn't given me a reason to this year. Though I must admit, Shadow Complex looks pretty cool.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts. I'm giving the win to Sony this year.

Sony wins this time around in my opinion. Sometimes being last adds a dramatic impact, and in this case it let them take everyone by storm. The only bad part was with the constant wave of PSP announcements that all sort of blended together after a while, and even in that case there was still neat stuff to find.
Microsoft had a good second place though, with the debut of Project Natal. However, Natal will need a lot of support if it's to become another form of gaming. There were also a lot of cool games announced, and Kojima's suprise was awesome, but it didn't have the same impact that Sony's show did.
Nintendo emerged from this one with lots of games for the core fans lined up, but I can't help but feel that their biggest innovation, the WiiMotion Plus, got destroyed by Sony's little tech demo. It's just been outclassed, I'm afraid. They get a solid third for still having some interesting games, but a on-off presentation.
The biggest loser though was Ubisoft. Just read my above opinions on it: I don't need to rage on it twice.
I agree on your general consensus of E3, you have done a terrific job of presenting it to the Escapist, props to you.
Sony blew me away the most just because they showed a lot of games and large parts of gameplay which is the most important to me. Nintendo takes second place just for the focus on core games (2 Marios?? Hell Yea! I'm tempted to buy my friends!) and Microsoft showed huge potential with their interactive camera but the game part of it was stale to me.
Didn't pay attention to EA or Ubisoft, it's hardly fair to compare them to the big boys though.
Project Natal and the ps3 motion controls blow the Wii out of the water it seems to me like the motion plus just does what the Wii was supposed to do when it was first launched.
After seeing what Microsoft is doing with Natal and Sony with their Sony Sticks, and Team Ninja taking an interest in this next Metroid game ( I heard something about an "M" rating?), I'm starting to think that *maybe* Nintendo is starting to look back to its root audience.
