This one hasn't seemed to crop up at all, though nearly everything else has: Don't be lazy with the Beast races and just make them human models with pin-on tails and random extra facial features. Morrowind had the Beast races specially set up with restrictions, and I would have killed for Argonians and Khajiit to look like they had on Morrowind. Honestly? What Bethesda did with them was just pure laziness.

They could even make either specific armor for the Beast races so they could wear 'full' and 'closed faced' helms or boots without making them look like scaled humans. Champions: Return to Arms comes to mind, the lizard shaman being able to wear the same armor as everyone else, but boots ended up becoming anklet guards, and higher-grade armor covered the tops of the feet. Body armor would extend down the tail a bit as well.

Even if they don't make armor specially for Beast races (Why wouldn't they though, if the Beasts have their own locations? Imports. After all, the Beasts are an important part of Tamriel as well) at least making proper models for the Beasts, rather than just making them look like bastard children between a Nord and Khajiit, would be nice to return to.

Truncing the gear and skills was lazy as well. Daggers and longswords use the same skill? Maybe. Axes and maces though? Pffft. When I see someone in a movie bludgeon someone to death with an axe is when I'll say they are the same. Just doesn't happen. No unarmored or Medium armor skill was also annoying. The higher defence than light and lower weight from heavy was nice, and being able to act like a monk and go around without armor and not become a slab of meat riddled with arrows was nice. Spears were one of my favorite weapons in Morrowind as well.

Mainly, Bethesda just... needs to not be lazy. Games become crap when a company gets lazy with them, or rushes to meet a deadline. Sure, pushing release dates back months at a time sucks, but doing it and then still releasing a game that's just a forest bloomfest and shows obvious laziness? Sad. Very, very sad.

I agree if they were to combine the good of morrowind such as hand detailed environments and vary diverse skills with the good of oblivion such as skill perks and easier magic they could make a great game. As for ways to improve it would be different fighting styles, mass effect style dialogue that actual effects the conversation, and the ability to design your own armor.
Mass effect dialogue is overhyped.
It's overhyped for a reason. It totally changed how I viewed the npc's and it really helped me feel like the random guy I was talking to wasn't Joe NPC with a line or two of lame monotonous garbage.

Change the levelling system so it works on experience, like Fallout 3. Instead of autorunning in a corner for a few hours and holding "c".

Also, I thought that enemies levelling up when you do was a rather epic fail.

It is a feature that I shall not miss.

I know it can be altered with mods, but it would be better to be like that already.

More love for us stealth characters:
An equivalent of Fallout 3's Mr. Sandman perk. (silent kills on sleeping NPC's)
A less vague stealth indicator.
Maybe a stab attack? Just for aesthetics. Because I prefer stabbing animations to slashing.
or a halfway decent stealth system? Like, play the thief games. Give us something at least HALF as good as that.
Oh god yes, that stealth system was just great.

Better animations, more powerful effects, eg: fireballs actually deforming the landscape. No loading in towns and doors that actually work. Also no frigging level based difficulty. It really defeats the point, they should just have harder and easier areas

I'd like to see a main story that's actually good, and characters I give a pair of dingo's kidneys about. The only one I cared about at all was Martin, and that's because he was voiced by Boromir.

It's probably a bit difficult to pull off, but since Martin died at the end of Oblivion, I would love to see a story about the power vacuum following that. Since there's no heir to the throne, it's unclear who should lead the Empire, so it would be cool to see a factional struggle between various groups who want to lead. This would eventually turn into an Empire-spanning war for control, and the player will actually have an impact on the story in deciding which side to fight for. If the player's side wins, the protagonist, having become leader of his faction, will become Emperor.

That's the dream, anyway.

More God wepons

Better A.I.

Less stiff characters

More realisic voices eg. The old lady with a coaky vioce suddenly started to speak with a posh accent

More voice actors

Werewolves

Controllable Boats

Better vampires

Able to become a soldier/guard

I think less God weapons overall but make them better, more valuable to search and quest for.
I maybe have 3 of those weapons because they seemed to worthless, except for the Skeleton Key.

Werewolves definitely. And better vampires are a must, including better innate abilities too.
But none of that Twilight shit. More of a Nosferatu/Van Helsing blend.

Cities made out of giant mushrooms and npcs that acknowledge your status. In both morrowing and oblivion you could be the chosen one, leader of all the guilds, arena champion, master of all the houses and whatnot and yet no one seems to care that they are speaking with the most powerful (both physically and politically) individual in the world.

OH and do not let a fucking npc steal all the credit at the end of the game!
When
Martin turns into the dragon
I literally screamed at my screen that the little twat was stealing my legend.

Less voice, more text. Trying to voice every character is a big mistake, because they all end up sounding too alike. Unimportant NPCs should just have text, which lets the player decide for themselves how they sound.

The speechcraft game was a big disappointment compared to the one in Morrowind, where it actually made a difference whether you were good at intimidation or flattery. Bring back Morrowind's version if you can't think up a better one in the meantime.

Well, I'd like to see more options for customizing your character. Maybe a height option, maybe a fitness/fatness deal based on what you do in the game.
More voice actors, more NPC variations,Maybe some area specific creatures.
More detail and variations in Forts and Ruins. Perhaps some more house modifications.
And like everyone else said, rare Armour actually being rare. Also, if you're going to make armour worth $15,000, make merchants who have a supply of cash close to that. Or make them earn or loose cash based on why we buy/sell from them.
And finally, a nice cliff area for me to stand and curse at the Gods when I fail.
There's a nice cliff area in oblivion, it's called dive rock, you'll find it if you just continuously go north from fort farragut (which is right near cheydenhal) Look it up for more info

Also, like Gavo said, make assassinating people easier, and actually getting into the place and getting to their sleeping beds without them waking up, harder.

Make the dungeons more variable and interesting. There were like 3 variations of dungeons: forts, ayelid ruins, and caves, and they were all kind of samey anyway.

Also, why are there so many ruined forts but barely any active ones? Soldiers are always talking about being stationed at forts, but they seem non-existent.
I agree with the selling issue, I can't sell any of my items for what they are worth due to the fact they just don't have enough god damn money...

i reckon friendly NPC's that can fight for themselves would be good - i found myself not trusting any of the friendly NPC's to not die, and tried to avoid staying with them if possible.

ACCURATE ANATOMY! I stabbed a guy in the eye with a knife and he proceeded to kick my ass. Meanwhile, a archer guard shoots me in my little toe and I instantly die. Also, you should be able to steal stuff while invisible. I could only steal stuff with camoflage and that only worked about half the time.

I think that the game world size, number of npc/ quests, and towns/ villages should be vastly increased, but the graphics I don't really care about.

I'd like to see the game made so you aren't practically forced to beat the main storyline before doing anything else. The stupid guards in oblivion didn't scale with the enemy NPCs

11. The bow system needs no tweaking, because when you get your skill to 100 in it, you pretty much can just toy with enemies because you automatically paralyze them or knock them down with every other hit you land, so to whoever was saying the archery was weak, apparently you never maxed your skill out, so go back and do that. I'll wait...... Done? Good. Now don't you agree that the bow skill is just fine how it is? Lolz...
So "if you play with the bows long enough they stop sucking". There's no reason for you to use them at lower levels you'll never get it at a high level.

What the crap are you talking about? I tore through the game with two characters who were stealthy archers... If you suck with the bow, you might want to try aiming a little higher. If you sneak when you shoot enemies who haven't noticed you yet you get a 6x damage multiplier too. So you just suck man. Bows are the heat.

7.Vampirism was more of a hinderance than a privelege. Fix that or omit it completely. Leaving it in the game like it is is just lame.
It's supposed to be a disease. Also, if you do things during night you will get pretty pretty big bonuses. It's a different play style. It's just a pain in the ass and the bonuses aren't good enough to warrant the frustration. Try not sucking at games, it's a different play style, but hey, it is an RPG after all...

1. ALL of the Empire. Not just Tamriel or Morrowind, but the whole empire. Vvardenfell, Black Marsh, Tamriel, Morrowind, Skyrim, Hammerfell, Sommerset Isle, the whole thing. Maybe even Akavir, if the place is still around. Elder Scrolls V is going to be regarding the ENTIRE empire and its possible downfall, so let's see everything.
Might be feasible by the time elder scrolls V comes out but we might need to wait till 6 or 7.
-2.1: The "Conversation Pie". This needs to be outlawed. It was just annoying and frankly asinine.
So agreed. It wasn't even a challenge. It was so simple.
-3.3: Make spells scale damage/healing. This way you get one spell, it lasts the entire game, and you don't have to keep wasting gold to buy new spells. Yes, keep the diverse ones like in Conjuration for summoning different creatures, but make them scale with your skill. Like at Conjuration skill 20, your Summon Skeleton gets you a Skeleton, but at 40, you get a Skeleton Guardian. Or your Illusion skill will determine the amount of visibility reduction you get from a Chameleon spell.
I like this idea. Definitely make it so one spell lasts the entire game, if it absolutely needs to cost money make it so you could buy upgrades from the guild.
14. The encumberance system. When you're over-encumbered, you can't even MOVE? That is crap! Who designed that, and why has he not been sacrificed to the volcano god?!
true but it makes sense.
